Although ethnic violence is rampant and residues of systemic discrimination can still be found in the US, the solution is not to implement affirmative action or other socialist measures. Once you dismantle meritocracy, you are way down the slippery slope.

I understand what you are saying and I even partly agree that affirmative action is a problem. The proper solution would be to implement laws that would counteract the systemic discrimination and zoning policies. But this is where the theory meets harsh reality. There is very little chance that appropriate measures will be taken by the legislators or the local government, they have too much inertia. The purpose of affirmative action in this context is to break the cycle and to introduce enough diversity in all kinds of social circles tor each the critical mass for a more fundamental change.

Not to mention that these measures don't necessarily dismantle meritocracy. When used properly, they counteract forces that prevent meritocracy from being a thing in the first place.

I’d recommend you watch this 4-minute video:

It demonstrates why Apple is donating to certain groups only, rather than all. They’re trying to get equality of opportunity, not equality of treatment.
This is visually impactful and morally confusing. So it’s wrong to do things to give your children an advantage? I have friends who got multiple jobs and stayed in relationships they hated just so their kids could get ahead. I mean, sure, how some advantages were acquired are questionable - but that doesn’t mean having an advantage over others is intrinsically wrong.

Is it?

I am all for this, but doing something like this is going to be supported by the majority of people in the US with a brain.

But where is Tim when it comes to showing this type of support for Hong Kong? That type of support for equality is difficult, and he does not offer it publicly.

Oh come on apple they are pushing me away bit by bit I’m all for equality but we have it in america this is just not needed
You are all for equality, but you don't support equality because there is too much of it already? Just because you have not seen it, does not mean that discrimination does not exist. Your comment about having equality in America is verifiably false.

My heart bleeds for all of the white American males born in the US. Imagine being born in one of the greatest countries on earth to be a white person, part of the majority, with all of the opportunities that gave you and still feel disenfranchised. A true tragedy of the human psyche that will be studied for decades,

It reminds me of an old Pearl Jam song, WMA.

He won the lottery, when he was born
Took his mother's white breast to his tongue
Trained like dogs, color and smell
Walks by me to get to him
Police man, police man
He won the lottery, by being born
Big hand slapped a white male American
Do no wrong, so clean cut
Dirty his hands, it comes right off
Police man, police man
Police stopped my brother again
Police stopped my brother again
Police stopped my brother again
Police man, police man
Jesus greets me, looks just like me
Do no wrong, so clean cut
Dirty his hands, it comes right off

Can Apple fix the real problem with racial diversity? That is, a much higher percentage of single parent families raising children. Numerous studies and experts agree that this is the main reason for racial inequity. Kids being raised by a single parent generally have a harder time in life growing up, which results in a harder time as an adult. This is true regardless of race. But statistically, it is much higher in the African-American population.

It’s not the system or the man holding anyone down. No one yet has showed me a law that is racist.

All the people on here saying me and others are not for equality it’s the other way round your the ones not for it if you think black and brown deserve special treatment your not being equal to white people think about it, I don’t see colour in people just good and bad people
If you don't understand the initiative , which you of course didn't read , they are not going to help black people "period" , the Beverly Hills black residents cannot apply , this is about helping black people that have a hard time getting started due to where they were born and raised (specific communities).

There is a group of people they identified that could use help and they think they can make a difference , and they went for it , how in the world you think its a bad idea ?

Again , its not just "help black ppl".

This is not a trillion $ budget , and its not that Apple are switching the CPU design team with under qualified personnel , the overreaction in this thread is sad as it shows some of the bad sides of the US , and I don't live there..... ppl don't like helping other ppl that can use help.

America such a racist country even tho elected a black president for 8 years, oh and im sure all the rappers feel so opressed in their mansions and the sport people like nba players mostly black are under privileged lol give me a break the only people that have issues are the racists

I love you for quoting WMA

It’s not racist to say or think White people feel like they are being pushed away, since blm Netflix Disney plus etc have black categories and it’s all you hear about from company’s that want to be woke and progressive, I have zero issues with anyone based on skin colour I treat others how I wanna be treated, stats just don’t agree that america is racist, yeah there are bad people everywhere but the law and majority isn’t like that, this is just annoying people because certain people don’t feel equal anymore

Please, just stop reacting for a moment. Look at this from another perspective, if only as a mind-broadening exercise. Think about the following concept:

Black and other minorities have been oppressed for so long. They have not had equal opportunity whites have had. When Disney/Netflix et al put up banners for content collections focussed on 'black categories', that does not actively stop you watching what you want. But it can help people those categories are targeted at feel included.

The people who have, by countless example, felt 'not equal' are the ones who really haven't been treated equally. If white people feel put out by some companies proactively acknowledging others alongside them, then that's something they should reflect on and put themselves in the shoes of others who have suffered true injustice.

It’s like in the U.K. now they wanna hire people of colour over others to join the police force to look diverse, there is actually training days for anyone who isn’t white, this is wrong equality should mean the best person for the job gets it and not based on skin colour, but this just isn’t the case anymore they always go on about white privilege but at the moment it’s the other way round
Again white privilege misses the point entirely.

It’s not about what you give your children. It’s the situations that children are born into that they have no control over.

It’s the same reason that one donates or volunteers to help children in poverty or that there is aid available to children who would have a harder time affording college. We recognize they can’t help the situation they were born into, so we strive to give them the same opportunities that the rest of the population has access to.
