America such a racist country even tho elected a black president for 8 years, oh and im sure all the rappers feel so opressed in their mansions and the sport people like nba players mostly black are under privileged lol give me a break the only people that have issues are the racists
I totally agree. Everyone knows that all black people are either rappers living in mansions, or NBA players living in mansions.

It’s not about what you give your children. It’s the situations that children are born into that they have no control over.

It’s the same reason that one donates or volunteers to help children in poverty or that there is aid available to children who would have a harder time affording college. We recognize they can’t help the situation they were born into, so we strive to give them the same opportunities that the rest of the population has access to.
Isn’t the point of parenthood to put your children into situations where they have an advantage?

I think the definition of what constitutes "systematic barrier" and "cause of inequality" needs to be agreed upon by everyone before the Justice can be done.

I wager that most people (not all, of course, because there will always be outlier *********) want all people to have the best opportunities to be successful in America.

If we did a poll of a thousand people we would get a strong majority (if not all) that would agree that everyone in America should have equal opportunity to have "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

the problem is that we all can't agree on the definitions of what the root problem is, and therefore it's impossible to address it and move forward.

I don't care to get people to agree with me or not. I just found this graphic interesting and would hope it sparks some conversation regarding what "Justice" actually means. I'm interested in conversation and learning from other people's opinions and experiences.

-thanks

Some of you (those who have enjoyed white privilege from birth and so know no better) need to learn the difference between equity and equality.

It’s not racist to say or think White people feel like they are being pushed away, since blm Netflix Disney plus etc have black categories and it’s all you hear about from company’s that want to be woke and progressive, I have zero issues with anyone based on skin colour I treat others how I wanna be treated, stats just don’t agree that america is racist, yeah there are bad people everywhere but the law and majority isn’t like that, this is just annoying people because certain people don’t feel equal anymore
Are you, like, 12 years old?

that sure as hell cured racism!!! It’s over!!!!! Clown

I find the language around "equity" concerning, truth be told.

Equality means everyone has the same opportunities, equity means everyone has the same outcomes.

An example of this at my former university:

The physics department noticed how over 90% of their Master's students were male, so they actively started treating female applicants preferentially. The other departments saw that as a brilliant move and started doing the same. So now faculties that already had way more female than male students implemented programmes to further grant preferential treatment to women, and the physics department, due to a total lack of female applicants, stayed 90% male.

The problem is assuming that every unequal outcome stems from unequal opportunities.

You have 'zero issues' so long as white people retain an unfair advantage right? Sounds like the state of race relations in the UK that I have to deal with. You will be 'tolerated' as long as you know your place and don't get 'upperty'

Apple today announced a set of new projects as part of its $100 million Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) to help dismantle systemic barriers to opportunity and combat injustices faced by communities of color.

The projects include the Propel Center, a global innovation and learning hub for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), an Apple Developer Academy to support coding and tech education for students in Detroit, and venture capital funding for Black and Brown entrepreneurs.
The initiative builds on Apple's work to advance racial equity in education, the economy, and the criminal justice system, and is led by Apple's vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson.
Apple is contributing $25 million to the Propel Center, which is designed to support the next generation of diverse leaders, providing innovative curricula, technology support, career opportunities, and fellowship programs. The Propel Center will offer a wide range of educational tracks, including AI and machine learning, agricultural technologies, social justice, entertainment arts, app development, augmented reality, design and creative arts, career preparation, and entrepreneurship. Experts from Apple will help develop curricula and provide ongoing mentorship and learning support, along with offering internship opportunities.

Later this year, Apple will also open an Apple Developer Academy in Detroit. The academy is designed to empower young Black entrepreneurs, creators, and coders, helping them cultivate the skills necessary for jobs in the rapidly growing iOS app economy. Launched in collaboration with Michigan State University, Apple Developer Academy courses will be open to all learners across Detroit, regardless of their academic background or whether they have any previous coding experience.

In addition, Apple is today announcing two new investments in the venture capital and banking spaces, with both projects designed to provide capital to minority-owned businesses. The company will invest $10 million with Harlem Capital — an early-stage venture capital firm based in New York — to support its investments in 1,000 companies with diverse founders over the next 20 years. In addition to providing capital to entrepreneurs of color, Harlem Capital will also lend its expertise to Apple's broader efforts to advance access to economic opportunity. The firm will offer guidance and mentorship to students at the Detroit Developer Academy and participants in Apple's Entrepreneur Camp for Black Founders and Developers. Apple will also support Harlem Capital's internship program, focused on opening doors for aspiring women and minority investors.

The company will also invest $25 million in Siebert Williams Shank's Clear Vision Impact Fund, which provides capital to small and medium-size businesses, with an emphasis on minority-owned companies. The fund looks to support businesses that operate in or serve underserved markets, and that foster inclusive growth initiatives.

Lastly, Apple is making a contribution to The King Center, a living memorial to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to share his teachings and inspire new generations to carry forward his unfinished work. Next week, Dr. King’s daughter and the CEO of The King Center, Dr. Bernice A. King, will issue a call to action encouraging young people to give back to their communities as part of Apple’s "Challenge for Change" series — a set of conversation guides and learning-based challenges on issues related to race and inequality.

The announcements follow news on Tuesday that Apple planned a non-product related announcement today. Apple CEO Tim Cook has given an interview with CBS This Morning that focuses on the initiatives and should air sometime today.

It’s funny how many people were so wrong and probably disappointed that it wasn’t a new service or something like that, so odd something everyone should be proud of there are actually people that are disappointed.

Like every other online discussion concerning race, equality, and politics, this one appears to be headed towards the proverbial dumpster fire.

I'll keep my thoughts brief.

It appears Apple is focusing some of their attention towards currently (perceived or actual, I say this to TRY and not be offensive, but I know that's a stretch in this day and age) disadvantaged people in the US.

Throughout history, great technical advances that have had major impacts on the lives of millions and billions have come from previously disadvantaged people who were given opportunities they otherwise wouldn't not have had access to.

People from diverse backgrounds think different(ly) (WOW, where have we heard THAT phrase before??) and bring fresh ideas to the table. Innovation and fresh thinking build on existing ways of thought to take the whole of humanity in directions we never thought possible.

So to set all the race bickering aside, I'm excited to see what new ideas come from this 10 or 15 years down the road. I'm sure it'll be something incredible....

I’m not against these efforts by any means but isn’t supporting what are essentially black only schools and facilities the opposite of equality? Sometimes it feels like we are going backwards.
If you make $100,000 a year and I announce I’m giving your coworker, who makes $20,000 a year a big raise, am I somehow taking something away from you? No.

Same is true here. Opportunities, funding, etc. for minorities lags far behind that for whites as a whole. Does that mean all white people are rich? Absolutely not. But in general being white means access to a lot more opportunities and advantages than not being white.

Apple (and others) are seeking to help those communities catch up, to be able to have a more equitable chance to join fields like programming and engineering.

Put it another way. If we are running a race and I get to start 100m away from the goal and you have to start 200m away, letting you move 100m closer isn’t punishing me, it’s making sure we both have a fair chance to compete. That’s what Apple et. al. are trying to do here, help move everyone closer to the same starting point. It’s a good thing to do. It’s the right thing to do.

And some of you need to learn the difference between equality of opportunity versus outcome. Everyone should have the same opportunity, but that does NOT mean everyone has the right to equal outcome. Just because two people go to the same school and study the same subject, doesn't mean they will both have the same career.

Does this mean my kids will have their college applications based purely on merit and not require higher SAT/ACT scores than other groups or is this just 'equality for me but not for thee'?

I cannot stand virtue signaling from trillion dollar companies who make money from borderline forced labour in a country that runs concentration camps. The hypocrisy is unreal. If Apple actually cared about child labour or Uygurs in concentration camps instead of virtue signaled they wouldn't support the CCP by building their products there.

Same goes for Nike, the poster child for third world sweat shops talking about racial equality.
