I’ve been hesitant and back and forth on wether I’d be getting the Apple charging case this time. I believe it truly ruined my iPhone X battery life, not having a choice on when to charge using the case is a big flaw imo. I have the Mophie battery case right now, and I love that you can toggle the charging rather than have my phone at 100% nonstop. I’ll try out the Apple case for a week to see if anything’s changed since the past years regarding battery optimization charging.

Man that's pricey. I thought an iPhone case with battery would cost half that. At the current MSRP, you can buy a full-priced 26800 mAh power bank with two USB-A ports, a USB-C PD port at 45 watts, and the package includes the 60-watt wall charger, a USB-C cable, and sleeve. All of that comes in the box. Some new power banks even go to USB-C PD 60 watts; USB-C PD 45 watts is enough to charge a Macbook Pro. In fact right now a major bricks/mortar tech retailer has a good Anker one on sale for $109.

Though having instant-camera and instant-video from the case, even if the iPhone is locked, that's a nice feature.

Pretty neat they put a new camera button on the side of the case.

indeed but the most interesting thing is if these fit into the current XR/XS Line and if it does work on that, if that camera button works on them too

Keeping your battery at %100 for longer periods degrades the battery. Apple knows this and added optimized battery charging feature in IOS 13 to prevent battery degradation.

Last years battery cases charged the phone to %100 percent and kept it at %100 percent until the cases battery runs out. Will these new cases do the same?
I'm almost positive this is what caused my 2 separate iPhone 6's (my original and the apple provided replacement) battery to bloat and expand. The case keeps the phone at 100% throughout the day, and while that in and of itself might not be too bad for the battery, adding a lot of heat through a software update, huge download or heavy game usage seemed to always kickstart the bloating process. I had the original iPhone 6 for years before I bought the battery case for it and had no problems. About 4 months after I purchased the case, right after a big iOS update that September, the bloating slowly started.

I had that 2nd phone replaced for a small fee, so I've got another normal iPhone 6 that I'm leaving out of the battery case. It's my backup phone right now as I've since purchased a iPhone 11 Pro.

My original replacement Phone lasted a little over a year before slowly starting to bloat again.
I feel like these cases could use better ventilation to dissipate the heat better. If anything, I would take it out of the battery case when doing system updates…or make sure the phone's battery isn't at 100%.

Most people have their phone at 100% for hours every day (they charge it overnight but the charging takes maybe only 20 to 30% of their sleep time). Keeping a laptop at 100% for weeks might affect battery performance noticeably, keeping a phone at 100% for part of the day will only have a marginal effect. Unless of course, your battery case manages to keep the phone at 100% essentially the full day, but if it does, do really need a battery case?

I've kept my iphone at 100% or so nearly every work day for every iphone i've ever had, dating back all the way to the original iPhone. I've never had any issue with battery degradation. In the years since Apple built display of battery state into the settings.app, I've never had a phone measure less than 98% at the 1 year point or 95% at the 2 year point (I stop paying attention at that point since we typically take the phone out of use by year 3).

Keeping my MBP at 100% for 99% of the time might have contributed to its battery expanding ... after six years.

And I'd like to ask, if a battery case keeps your phone at 100% during most of the day, do you really need a battery case? The battery case has about 50% of the capacity of phone battery, thus if your battery case keeps your phone battery at 100% for, let's say, 8 hours, than the phone battery itself should last for twice that, ie, 16 hours.

My charging habits are the same with yours. This is a screenshot from an iPhone SE which I had its battery replaced by an Apple Store 14 months ago. So I guess you were lucky with your iPhones throughout the years or I was particularly unlucky. :)

Last I checked, no other case integrates with the OS. So uh... right as usual.

You might be right on that, the Mophie has no Integration into the OS. But is that really needed? For me a batterycase is the same as a powerbank: it add's juice to my phone.

I've to achivate the Mophie to start juicing up while the Apple is juicing it all the time.

Honestly 79.99$ for Mophie with its 2000 mAh is a lot of money, as I can get a Powerbank with the same mAh for less the money.

Now it's interesting how the battery is sized in Apples new Case. 129$ is a lot of money, okay i get silicone instead of plastic, i get a smart-function and an OS integration- but whats really important is (IMHO) the size of the battery.

And right now we don't know the size, as apple is just offering 50% more battery. So if we divide the original accu of sn iPhone 11Pro (3190 mAh) through 50% we get a possible accu size of 1595mAh in the case.

Don’t think it’s a fair to compare a battery case with a power bank. Completely different usage.

Exactly. While the end result (your phone is charged) is the same, they're two different use cases.

If I'm out shooting photos, it's much more convenient to have the Battery Case rather than be tethered to a battery pack.

I get pretty good battery life on my 11 Pro Max but this is still tempting since the case will recharge with a wireless charger. I love wireless charging and would not use any phone case that would force me to go back to plugging my phone in to recharge.

Apple should really reconsider the design. This humpback thing has been around forever and looks just as ridiculous today as it did back then...
It actually works pretty well and feels good in the hand. But it is ugly.

Thank you for the link! Couldn't find it on the Apple Store app on my phone. Seems like anymore MR just wants to get as many 'stories' out as quickly as they can and not put a lot of effort into simple things like a link that the entire story is about.

With that being said; my iPhone 11 Pro Max has outstanding battery life. I'm kind of interested in this though. It appears that it only gives 50% more battery life which is the drawback to me at that price. I had a cheap 3rd party case like this for my iPhone X and it fully charged my phone almost 3 times before I'd have to recharge it. It did not have the side camera button though.

Touchè...

“Modified” is not the word I’d use to describe it 😂

The case is designed that way to not degrade reception/transmission, which also diminishes battery charge.

I don't think I've dipped below 50% battery life on my new iPhone 11 Pro, most days end around 80% remaining. I bought the 11 Pro for the improved camera, but I am absolutely astounded by the battery life on this thing. Can't imagine this battery case will be a popular seller because it is unneeded.

i think it's a marked improvement over this iPhone 7 monstrosity

TBH, I think its downright good looking and always enjoyed the feel and look of my iPhone X smart battery case. Its a solid hunk of silicone and well proportioned, as well as very easy to hold. Doesn't make the phone measurably bigger from the front as the regular silicone case, and offers lots of protection over the OEM case.
