God it took them three years to admit there is serious issue with coating and yet some people here are praising them for being most consumer friendly company, this makes me
LOL

But they never issued one for image retention, popping pixels, and mara spots....I'm giving up home. Why would they issue a fix for this and not the image retention issues.

wow, it takes petition to fix computers now

someone is really directing the ship in right direction (until $200 billion runs out of course).

There are competitors that would be more than happy to take your money if you're unhappy with the way that Apple acknowledges things like this.

My 2014 macbook pro has just started to show this near the top. Couldn't have been more careful with it as I knew about this well before I bought it and yet its still starting to show this.

My one as well, near the FaceTime camera. Just a few mm but will probably get it replaced at some point later on.

In the meantime, my $200 Chromebook gets those lines from the keyboard on the screen. Really ghastly. So I use a microfiber cloth and spray to clean them off. It Just Works, screen is clean and nothing peels off. What am I doing wrong?

I promise you it has nothing to do with listening to customer feedback, and is more about trying to avoid a class action lawsuit.
If apple listened we would have bigger batteries, All iphones would be in 1080, and no more 16gb phones.

And would any of these things increase sales? Nope.

Hell, i don't mind the price i pay for 64gb, i don't want a bigger battery i wany a smaller phone and 1080p screen would make no difference what so ever, the current screen is literally perfect, a higher resolution would be a waste of gpu and battery power for no visual gain

price is the key here, many other products, we just replace them. and sometimes the product with another companies's product.

Look most of who are here love apple product and so criticize when they do wrong things, it is all about iDevice nowadays. I am using Mac Products since 12" PowerBook Pro and cycle through many different Macs and iDevices.

I'm not sure how a spec bump relates to a manufacturing defect.

Took them a few months, but hey ho. Well done Apple for listening to your customers.

Maybe they had to first see how widespread the problem is, beyond the 10 posts on a forum.
You people these days are so negative and just love to hate on everything and it shows in this forum as every 2nd post is a snide remark like this.

What company offers that kind of service?. Apples costumer services is the best, by far, it's not even close. I'm sure people will now complain that it's only 3 years after purchase, which is amazing by the way.
Got to love Mac rumours these days, 90% + is battery life threads and lag threads claiming Apple does it all on purpose. I miss they day where this forum actually used to be informative and full of normal discussions between tech/Apple fans.

Glad to hear. The coating issue is really annoying depending on the light situation. Also the color temperature of the screen seems to be changing.
Back again to Apple then. The mother board already got replaced twice. Bought mine 3 years and 4 weeks ago. Otherwise a great machine.

He said "costumers", no "macrumors users"

Looks like that guy used sandpaper to clean his screen.

That made me laugh out.

I haven't seen anything this ugly wear-wise since the original plastic MacBooks had the cracked palm rests from the magnets. So far my 2014 MBP doesn't have this issue, but I never use cleaner on the screen, only a cloth.

Bummer, mine is 3 years and 1 month old. Otherwise still running fine (has had 2 MB replacements already) but the coating issue is really annoying depending on the light situation. Also the color temperature of the screen seems to be changing.
You're covered until Oct 16, 2016.

Lol, ar coating is well known wide spread issue for 2-3 years...

And btw here in czech republic, apple offers literally no service at all.

That's good I bought a new MacBook Pro in June this year so this gives me some extra confidence in my purchase.

I had this issue show up this year on an Early 2015 rMBP 15". It was replaced under Apple Care without issue.

No, the coating issue this article talks about stated to get reported in July-August this year, not 2-3 years ago.

In most European countries Apple customer service is incredible since they follow the same guidelines. For example in Europe warrant recently needs to be at least 2 years compared to the 1 year in America etc.

What do you mean there is literally no service at all? As in no App Store or different policies?

Oh yeah, I had the same issue. Luckily, I had an issue with my facetime camera, so they had to replace the entire display. Problem solved!

This is great news. My 2014 MBP has this problem, but not large enough yet to worry about. It is good to know that it can be taken care of if it should get much worse. I have Applecare, but was still worried they would just say it was cosmetic.

Which macbook is affected? This is not public in the support page, so I assume it would affect all macbook until current model.

Well i will have to look into this...Just got my mac back from my insurance company which changed the screen. Hope this means i will be able to get a refund on what i had to pay...

When I see things like this I double down on my desire to keep this perfectly-functioning 2008 Macbook alive for as long as possible. Why would I want to breakdown and "upgrade" to a product that has issues like this?
You're right!

I could kick myself for not keeping the tin cans and string my brother and I used to communicate with back in the 50’s.

(Just got this screen issue this week. 27 month old MacBook Pro. Just one reason I love, and always have, Apple Care.)
