I'm guessing that the machine you bought last year (2018) wasn't a 2015 model.
You'd be guessing wrong.

all these fix-it programs apple is having recently....on one hand its good they are proving the service, but on the other hand what does it say about their product quality?
What's apples return policy on new macbooks? I think you have two weeks to return it if it doesn't work out. If you're a loop hole type of person...While I like the recall. The fact that I have to give up my machine for 1-2 weeks is a MASSIVE issue and going to really hurt.
That giving up my machine part is going to greatly increase my chances of not getting it done. This is something Apple needs to figure out how to do in the store. I kind of need my computer to do my job.

Edit: I see now that they are only replacing ones sold in 2017.
Apple laptops are still second to none in reliability and longevity. Windows laptops don’t come close.all these fix-it programs apple is having recently....on one hand its good they are proving the service, but on the other hand what does it say about their product quality?
So did I actually, except about one month earlier than you. mine is eligible though.Interestingly, I bought one November 2016 from the Apple refurb store and the recall page says it's already been serviced.
It’s not really a ‘recall’. That’s a bad choice of terms to use. It’s a ‘service program’. Basically Apple keeps track of how many repairs happen on each component for each reason in their stuff. If they find that there’s been a high amount of repairs on the same component for similar reasons they will often issue this kind of program. It helps them to avoid lawsuits etc. they already do free repairs on swollen batteries in computers for 2-3 years after purchase. But because batteries are a potential safety risk if they are being extra cautious. And they are using the term ‘recall’ because of the fearful associations so that hopefully folks will come in right off and get the replacement thus helping them avoid lawsuits if a ****** battery is punctured by a user etc
Hmmm, got this model. Bought it new in between the dates they provided, but it's not eligible. Strange.
Maybe they don't want their last good laptop's reputation to be tarnished before they replace it.so 2015 product gets recall 4 years later? How does that work?
Since the recall is for a certain group of batteries, the serial number determines which laptops are affected. Check your serial number on the Apple website listed in the article.I have purchased mine in June or July 2015. It means I am not eligible?
That's fair. I'd say the Retina models are probably the best balance of new and old. That said, I might've even been happier if they had kept the same chassis as the 2011 and just added a Retina Display and newer internals. I want my Ethernet port.

I think the tablet "fad" is dying, and maybe a niche market now.
Yes, Apple have the iPad, but that seems more a touchscreen laptop than a tablet at this point. It's moved away more and more from a "tablet".
The two biggest markets for tablets are kids to play with and artists. The iPad is by far the best for artists.
