This just pissed me off. I bought my phone in November 2015. Worked fine until about May 2018 then it wouldn’t charge and when the battery eventually died it would take hours to power back on. So I had battery replaced thinking no big deal, then it started doing the same thing that following September. Then finally it died this August (RIP) 🙏 Bought a new unnecessary phone.

Honestly I wish all the whiners would pay attention to what other companies do/don't do when a defect is found, before complaining about Apple. Example LG tvs crappy power supplies or something cause the units to blink, LGs response - you are SOL! Dells, are crap when something goes wrong.

Apple is not perfect, I wish they were better, but so many companies aren't even close to their customer service

I've had my launch day 6s battery changed twice. Once two years ago for free under the battery replacement program and it got to 92% after about year. I replaced it again for the discounted rate last November. It is currently showing 90% in battery health, less than a year since my last replacement.

10% / year is about normal isn’t it? If you fast charge, or hot charge could be more. I can’t tell if you are complaining or just stating that your usage is absolutely normal

Can’t say the same for me or my five other family members who all got replacement batteries during the $30 sale. All of them are sitting around 90% max capacity after less than a year of use according to battery health and they have almost just as short of a battery life as the original ones that they replaced already. No doubt in my mind that Apple uses CRAP batteries for replacements and they do not match the quality of the original batteries that iPhones ship with.
Edit: My bro-in-law’s iPhone 7 popped its own screen off when the replacement battery expanded after one month of it being installed. Again, CRAP batteries that Apple uses for replacements. No doubt about it. He knew the guy that fixed it when that happened too and the guy even admitted to him that it was a known issue with their replacement batteries.
I agree.
I got my 6s Plus battery replaced last December, just before the program ended.
Early June, I started realizing that the 3D touch capability had stopped working in middle of the display, along with the presence of a blue hue circle. I took it to an Apple store, the diagnostics did not indicate anything wrong with the device, even though the Apple guy was able to verify that the display had lost its 3D touch capability and there was a discoloration in the middle of the screen. Long story short, I had to agree to pay for a screen replacement repair in order for them to agree to take the device in the back and open it. Of course, after they opened the device, they saw the swollen batter. They finally gave me a replacement phone charging me just for the cost of a battery replacement.

exact same experience here. I recently watched my battery drop from 67 to 52% in about two minutes. Quickly closed most apps and put it in power save mode as I was hailing an Uber to an Atlanta Braves game and had my etickets in Wallet. Was nervous as hell wondered what the hell was going on.

My iPhone 6 shut off and I could never get it to power on again. I wonder if it's related.

My 6S had a fault on the motherboard where it would discharge the whole battery in less than an hour, even if it was sitting idle. Was a good little device. Shame I couldn’t get that fixed for free.

At least the iPhone 6s has 3D Touch. I’m missing it on my iPhone 11 Pro Max—Haptic Touch just isn’t the same 😢
3D Touch keyboard cursor is vital to my everyday usage. It’s such an obscure feature that has changed the way I use the keyboard, I love it. Will be really hard to give up when I upgrade in the next few years. Shame 3D Touch has been retired.

I have a 6S Plus that is not experiencing any issues. I entered the serial number and it said the phone may be eligible for service. Will precautionary repairs be carried out or is this program only for phones that are already experiencing issues?

If you bought the phone in 2015, this program would not apply to you. The article says explicitly that it only applies to phones sold between October 2018 and August 2019 .

Interesting this affects late production units of iPhone 6s.

Wonder if these are limited to units made in Bengaluru, India.

Could be, as Apple were manufacturing the iPhone 6S in India during this time period and were exporting them.

Throttle gate part 3
That makes zero sense. Did you even RTFA? Do you have any idea at all what you’re talking about?

This is about a part failure that prevents the phone from turning on, for some iPhone 6s/6s Plus that were sold within the last year. Absolutely nothing to do with throttling or worn batteries.

If it has the bad part (i.e. it’s in the affected serial number range) they’ll replace it, even if it hasn’t failed yet.

Isn’t this too late? It’s already in it’s end of life stage... though I would not go as far as saying Apple is trying to be cheap here. Apple launched the X screen replacement program after a year of launch. Perhaps, this service program is for the newly manufactured units.

Lol. 4 years too late ... basically when they know there are less people to take advantage of the recall. Ugh. How Apple handed this issue and continues to handle it really does upset me. And yes it was because my phone was affected and I don’t feel like they’ve addressed this properly. Cover up this, cover up that. Meh.

This isn’t a recall it’s a quality program. There’s a huge difference. I think they’re handling this very well. Keep in mind it’s only devices 2018-2019 so they’re not 4 years too late.

the thing that really tees me off about apple ... is they have your serial number and your contact information for most devices they sell .... yet they don't proactively notify your of potential issues/problems ... i've never received 1 call, 1 email, 1 text message about potential defects in any of my iApple devices ...

apple dip into that trillion dollar war chest and be proactive on contacting customers with recalls

Apple also values privacy and doesn’t support unsolicited calls or texts. Working at Apple we get between 5-30 calls a day from customers saying they received a call from “Apple” that their device has been compromised and they need to call back as soon as possible. It’s a scam. And this is one reason why Apple doesn’t reach out. If you’re a less tech savvy person you most likely wouldn’t know the difference between Apple and a scammer reaching out. Also the likely hood someone hears about a quality program from Apple is extremely high through word of mouth, news, etc.

So, so true. They clearly have NO issues with spamming you with constant iOS update messages. How about a popup I'd like to see? I missed out on the 6S battery programme as I wasn't aware of it's existence, by the time I found out I was out of time so had to pay to replace the battery. So much for Tim's rhetoric about Apple always focussing on the great customer experience.

I find this thread interesting.

These boards are FULL of people that not only get the latest phone, but they go ******* making sure they get it on day one.

But - it appears there are some that still have the Iphone 6!!!.
No upgrades to 7 or 8 or X or XS/XR or 11.

AMAZING!

I replaced the battery myself early this year with a genuine Apple battery. Prior to this, battery health was at 88%. Now, battery health less than a year on is showing 89% and I don't use my iPhone that much or hot charge it, whatever that means.

The quality of replacement batteries has definitely gone down or recent iterations of iOS are somehow killing the battery.

Does this mean I can wait another few years and maybe get my iPad fixed with the bright spot issue...
