While they can be useful, experience has taught me never to trust them. Local pharmacy closes 14:00 to 15:00 every day.

But it doesn't tell you that anywhere, not the company's own website, not Google, except a sign inside the shop.

And opening hours everywhere have been extremely misleading this year!

(Yes, I have tried to tell them. Head office says the branch has to update the hours, The branch say it is up to head office.)

Irish user here. I was first pushed the new Maps around a week ago, sometime on 25/9, having been following the rollout on Justin O'Beirne's (great) blog. First thing I did was check to see if it supported Eircodes. What I noticed was that when you inputed an Eircode (for example D02 AF30), the correct address would appear in the search results, but when you clicked on that correct result, Maps would redirect you to a generic location covered by the first 3 digits of the Eircode which is the Routing Key, i.e. D02 AF30 and D02 N403 would both direct you to the same random location in Dublin 2. I reported this to Apple at the time and at some stage since, I don't know when, the correct address no longer appears in the search results when you input a full Eircode, and the same thing happens in that you are brought to a random location covered by the Routing Key if you enter an Eircode. So Apple definitely tested full Eircode integration at some point, and the system does correctly identify the Routing Keys, so hopefully they will roll it out proper soon. Have to say if they don't I'll be disappointed, Apple will never be able to match Google's wealth of user-supplied info on businesses etc, but at least if you have an Eircode for the business/location, the Map can get you there regardless of it's aware of the business for not. For many Irish (particularly rural) users, this will be a deal-breaker in the switch from Google Maps.

Apple Maps? Oh that wannabe Google Maps app. No thanks.
Have you not seen the detail they’ve managed with their 3D view? I can actually use it to plan routes as you can properly see lane arrows and everything rather than the blurry mess that is GMaps.

It’s vastly improved from the days when it was mocked. I’d go as far as to say it’s much better than GMaps in a lot of areas.

I do wish we could use 3D view in CarPlay though; that would be phenomenal.

I've been using apple maps a lot more recently (in the US). It's definitely improved and in many ways superior to Google Maps, but GM just has a much larger and more frequently updated database of locations/businesses. It's hard to compete with that. If I'm a new business or if I need to change my hours or dine-in status, the very first place I'd go to is google.

How do you activate look around? Maybe it’s not available in my city.
If it’s available in your location, first make sure you’re in Map or Public Transport mode (tap the ‘i’ to check). Then zoom in until a binoculars icon appears on the right (under the ‘i’ and location icon). Tap the binoculars icon, then tap the double arrow (beside the word ‘Done’) to see the fullscreen version. Now you’re free to scroll around with one finger, zoom with two (same as with photos) and tap to move along the roads/streets. Tap ‘Done’ to return to Map mode. Enjoy!

By the way, if it’s not available in your location you can still enjoy it by ‘visiting’ some of Ireland. It extends far outside of Dublin: the east coast as far as Wexford, west as far as the Shannon and north as far as the Cavan/Monaghan/Louth border with Northern Ireland (no Munster, Connaught or Donegal yet).

No Eircode use from the population at large either. Only been 6 years or so.
I’ve had the opposite experience, where most people I know now include the eircode when sharing their address. I also use the feature quite regularly. Then again, I live in a rural area, where it is very useful. I had hoped it would be included with this upgrade but...maybe soon?

You say that but the screenshot of Edinburgh does show a shopping centre called Waverley Mall! Was called Waverley Market when it first opened and gone through a few names since.
And here's a photo to prove it. I must say, it surprised me.

(but you still pronounce "mall" to rhyme with "pal", and not "tall", yes?)

MacRumors is an American, not a British publication. What exactly did you expect?

If MacRumors was a professional publication I'd expect the correct lingo to be used for the region in subject.

Apple is an American company, but on each countries website it uses the correct "British Spelling" and local lingo/terms/slag.

Personally I really don't care as I don't view MacRumors as a professional publication.
Majority of their readers are probably from the US. In which case, they can use their American names for things as we wouldn't want to confuse US readers!

Don't worry. You can still stick with the minority of iOS users who use Google Maps. The vast majority of iOS users, to the tune of billions of times a week, switched over time to Apple Maps as it evolved from its terrible start to having a better UI, more accurate time estimations, better Transit and, of course, respect for your privacy. Remember that Google Maps keeps track everywhere you drive, stop, etc., and ties it to your "Universal Identifier" that links every photo, gmail, web search, website, web click, google doc, etc., etc.

Don’t have it yet, but reinstalled to check. In my local area the scout hut is apparently a Kung fu dojo, the kids nursery is in someone’s house and mines now a betterware reseller.

I reported a few more issues too.

How do you get the 2D/3D button to disappear/re-appear?

Agree that the satellite imagery is superb.

Some of the buildings (e.g. houses nearby) have got wrong layouts. That is, some are shown with a ground plan that has a straight line frontage - some with a stepped frontage. But they are all the same design! Straight fronts.

Finally they have corrected an error on my street which has existed since maps launched.

I’ve reported the issue at least 5 times and it’s never been updated until now!

I want a much bigger screen now!

Do I want an iPad rather than an iPhone? Hmmm...
