Great now give us the iPhone and movies too and us canadians will be happy...

I really hope they hold off on the iphone.A rogers has been quoted as saying it wil cost the following.

Hardware $700
Plans will start at $180.

Rogers is in a bit of a tight squeeze when it comes to the iPhone. I figure they're trying to figure out what the H to do!

Plans are so cheap almost everywhere else in the world, I think Rogers is trying to figure out the best way to tell Canadians... 'you want an iPhone? Ok, but it's going to cost you $200 a month! :)

I'm hoping the iPhone is the catalyst for lowering monthly data plans up here in Canada but I'm not holding my breath.

That is what a rogers rep said now its that crretc most likely. In the states there a hand full of gsm providers so they have to have cheap rates. Here only rogers is the gsm provider.

It will NEVER cost that much. Apple sets this price, not rogers and Apple is expected to lower Canadian prices early in the New Year.

If it is announced in December as expected for a January launch, expect to see it at 449-499 range unless Apple is in a pricing phase adjustment in January - lowering Canadian prices again due to the strength of the Canadian Dollar. If they do, you could see an aggressive price of 399 or 429 CAD.

Rogers just announced unlimited email at 15$ per month, so I think we can see the ducks all lining up in a row here...

Expect an Unlimited Data Plan with less minutes and text included than you expect as this is where they will balance their concerns about revenue.

1)Apple has a say in the pricing. However rogers has the final say.

2)The $700 is no contract then $499 2 years and $399 3 years.

You are aware they are offering the $15 plan because telus and bell off unlimited daata plans now.

I am aware of the move regarding Bell and Telus. My understanding about the Rogers 15$ pack was that it was for email only - not web access - but I certainly could be wrong on this.

I also am not certain they will sell the iPhone here unlocked, which is why I was only debating the other numbers. However, your figures seem extremely accurate - so maybe you know that the announcement is forthcoming as well.

Last point though is that Apple will dictate the price and will have final say - but will price to market and rely on input from the service providers to do so. However, Canada is a special market due to proximity to the Us and both Apple and ROgers are very well aware of current consumer pricing sentiments...

Plans start at 180? Per month? This is not what I have heard and would certainly not be accepted.

Do you have a link?

Citation?

If you provide a citation, THEN I will let out a WOOHOO and have to explain myself to my coworkers. Because I'll be ready to buy in late january.

Yeah, yeah, I read it in a forum, so it MUST be true, but i'd love to see an article or a link to some shady guy who's brother-in-law cleans the toilets at Apple and saw a 2008 Canadian price list in Steve Jobs private bathroom ... something reputable like that.

Speaking of the toilets at Apple, I wonder if they've managed to simplify THAT user interface? Cause it already "just works" One-button too.

Telus offers it for $15 but includes browsing data too, but it just doesn't advertise it: http://www.telusmobility.com/mb/plans/pcs/email_15_smartphones.shtml

Unlimited data for the HTC Touch for $7:

I guess nobody will know for sure until Rogers makes it public. I'm just patiently waiting and have my little stash of cash ready for it. Let's face it, Rogers won't have much of a choice but to be reasonable to a certain extent with the iPhone. They know how popular and desired the phone is judging by recent releases in other markets. Both sides will have to compromise. They'll have to give in to certain Apple demands since Apple wants a good user experience with their products. I'm sure we'll pay a bit more than in other territories but the fact that we're seeing unlimited data packages from Rogers competitors can only be to our advantage when negotitations for the packages are settled. I'm just hoping I'll resist long enough until the 3G version comes out next year.
Oh, and thank f@ck we finally got TV shows. Once they start adding my faves like BG, I'll be loving myself sick buying and watching :)

This is the second time I said this today, but YEAHHHHH! First I found out there's going to be an Apple store in Vancouver, and now this! The shows are kinda crappy, but it's a start. Finally Canada's getting some attention. I wish they have Falcon Beach, that's my favourite Canadian show :(.

I'd love to see Coach's Corner (Ron vs. Don), Kids in the Hall ("I squish your head"), Four on the Floor ("Boot to the Head!"), and SCTV ("Welcome to the Great White North, eh?"). And heck, just for the kids, let's throw in The Friendly Giant ("Look up, look waaaaay up") and Mr. Dress-up ("Let's see what's in the Tickle Trunk").
Oh, and I forgot "The Beachcombers"! :D

they've launched television sales for the iTunes Store in Canada.

Shows are available for CAN$1.99 per episode. Show availability includes:

- CBC's comedy programs "Little Mosque on the Prairie"

Wake me up when I can buy Canadian shows in America. The half dozen bootleg LMotP on YouTube are pretty funny. What's the point of the internet if I can't buy foreign TV?

If a 3G iPhone is on the way, then I would think it would be in Apple's best interest to wait till the 3G phone is released so then talks with Telus and Bell can occur - hopefully giving Canadians a cheaper option than Rogers.

iTunes/iPhone

Happy that iTunes Canada has TV content but no American shows like CSI, etc. you know what I mean... CTV shows those shows so why not there but Canadian made shows only. C'mon not everyone watches all Canadian shows. It's like CRTC is forcing us to watch them.

iPhone is coming to Rogers next... it's time for Ted to cave in apple's demands and start lowering data prices as Bell does. If we don't have iPhone in Dec. for sure it'll be in mid-January after MacWorld keynote.

Glad all you guys are so confident, wish I could share those thoughts.....
i agree that it's cute that Telus and Bell have some type of data packages....but we've got a LONG way to go for Rogers to offer the iPhone...

My Rogers plan ends this Friday....i don't know what to do.....I think i'll hold out till the end of January...if there is no Canadian iPhone by then....i'm done with the phone..

i'm going back to a land line or something..

Yay! NHL for the US too! But...

I checked the US iTunes, and there is (a tiny bit) of Hockey--could have been there before--I never looked.

:confused::confused: What's up with "2007 Stanley Cup Finals Game 5" :confused::confused:

I remembered that Detroit swept the series in four games... So I looked it up, and yes, that's what happened. I wonder what this game is...
An extra game the Wings and Flyers played for fun?

You can still keep you Rogers account as month to month basis as you're not tied to a contract after that. My Bell plan expires on Jan. 11 and goes month to month. So I am waiting for the iPhone too, as I won't commit with any provider. If no iPhone come to Canada, I'll get a friend of mine send me one from the US for $399 and I'll unlock it, since our CDN dollar is at par. A couple of my co-workers have it on Fido and Rogers respectively, only thing not working is visual voicemail.

Yesterday's NHL games yes, old games no!

I guess the title of my post summarizes my msg. I live in eastern Canada and would love to be able to see day-old Edmonton Oilers` games more than once a month without having to purchase NHL Centre Ice. $2 a game? Sure! Old games? Forget about it! You already know the outcome. Well I hope Apple will be able to negotiate this. Apples offerings are a start but all the other shows are on regular tv. I will record them if I want to watch them. Charles.

Agreed. I can't think of any Canadian shows beyond "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" that I would watch for free either. Now when they start to offer "Prison Break" or "Supernatural" or "Family Guy" I'll be interested. Canada may have some of the best actors, but the US has all the best shows.

This attitude is why Canadian television has so much trouble keeping its head above water. E.g. Intelligence is IMHO the best drama on television anywhere in the world, but looks set for cancelation...

A big shout-out to Fine Canadian Programming. {8->

This is terrible.

The shows on there are mostly brutal canadian shows.
What a waste of my time.

I cant be bothered to watch these shows for free on television, let alone for 1.99.

Rubbish.

Yes.

$1.99 for an episode of Corner Gas? Right. Where's my wallet.

Canadian shows are, with a few exceptions like This Hour has 22 Minutes, the Rick Mercer Report and Trailer Park Boys, pretty damned awful. I'd rather watch hockey just as soon as it happens - not the next day after I've already heard the scores.

Still, we must all join hands and be thankful - finally Apple has brought Canada into the TV market. Now if we could start to take real advantage of the supposed "Free Trade" deal we have, perhaps our programs could be trans-national.

I'll just sit here and hold my breath for a while......

Free Trade my ass, this is not pure democracy, we still pay duty and get nailed for spending over. We still don't have HBO, iPhone, iTunes US programming, etc. Communist Radio and Telecommunications Commission aka.CRTC really controls our lives of what we can see, read, buy, whatever.
