Yes.

$1.99 for an episode of Corner Gas? Right. Where's my wallet.

Canadian shows are, with a few exceptions like This Hour has 22 Minutes, the Rick Mercer Report and Trailer Park Boys, pretty damned awful. I'd rather watch hockey just as soon as it happens - not the next day after I've already heard the scores.

Still, we must all join hands and be thankful - finally Apple has brought Canada into the TV market. Now if we could start to take real advantage of the supposed "Free Trade" deal we have, perhaps our programs could be trans-national.

I'll just sit here and hold my breath for a while......

You are aware corner gas has 5.5 million viewes in canada and 3 million in the states.

This attitude is why Canadian television has so much trouble keeping its head above water. E.g. Intelligence is IMHO the best drama on television anywhere in the world, but looks set for cancelation...

What's kept Canadian television down is the quality of the shows. There are plenty of horrible American shows too, but there are a lot more good American shows than Canadian shows. I enjoy 22 Minutes, but I enjoy Prison Break, Supernatural, Heroes, Lost, House, Battlestar Galactica, Pushing Daisies, Family Guy, and American Dad a lot more (as far as current shows go. Past shows like Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly, as well as shows like The X-Files, to name just four older shows, are much better than anything Canada could ever hope to put out as well). Don't get me wrong though. I am very pro-Canada, and TV and movies are pretty much the only place I think that the US is better off than Canada (well, that and they officially have iPhones and we don't :) ).

Free Trade my ass, this is not pure democracy, we still pay duty and get nailed for spending over. We still don't have HBO, iPhone, iTunes US programming, etc. Communist Radio and Telecommunications Commission aka.CRTC really controls our lives of what we can see, read, buy, whatever.

Yes, the CRTC probably does need a complete overhaul at this point. It's served its purpose, but now it's time for a change (IMO).

Apple announced today that they've launched television sales for the iTunes Store in Canada.

Shows are available for CAN$1.99 per episode. Show availability includes:

- CBC's comedy programs "Little Mosque on the Prairie" and "The Rick Mercer Report," reality programming "No Opportunity Wasted" and "Dragon's Den;"

Um, what happened to No Opportunity Wasted? I'm not much for reality TV but I do love The Amazing Race and so have a soft spot for Phil. I would have liked to check it out at least...

Why is there an apparent surcharge for content on the Canadian iTunes. A single video of an American Idol performance is $2.29 CAD, yet only costs US users $1.99. Given the content is coming from the same source and given an exchange rate today of ~ 98 cents per US dollar, someone is taking a 15% overhead on this transaction. I'm just curious who that might be.
