Nice move by Apple.
I wish they'd drop their proprietary connector and use USB (as all others do), though.
Maybe they will now that USB can everything their own connector can do...Oh wait....IT CAN'T!
Nice move by Apple.

We give them technology they aren't ready for, then act surprised when they kill themselves with it.
It's like the Native Americans with alcohol... did that really improve their lives?
Since the release mentions "or approximately" in local currency, I've got to figure it's worldwide.Anybody know if this is valid worldwide or US only?
There are major exceptions. Haier Corporation ("compete like a wolf") has made some of the finest refrigerators this world ever knew and succeeded with that.
they should also replace any cord of theirs that gets frayed(since that could also catch fire/shock you, after it frays withing 2-3 months of use), with a new one
It's really sad to think that people believe these estimated bill of materials figures actually represent the total cost of producing a phone-or any product.
But that's the world we live in.
So what's your point?Apple IS responsible for faulty products from other companies??
I'm the one explaining my point of view upon request, you're the one doing the name-calling.
I think that speaks for itself.
Sadly, despite living in the capital of florida (with 3 universities), there is no Apple store to take advantage of. I have a crappy ipad charger and a crappy iphone charger to swap.
No, they should make their own chargers so cheap that nobody would ever want to buy a third party no name charger. And he has a good point.
Actually I also believe that Apple should make iPhones and iPads themselves much cheaper so that thieves won't be tempted to steal them anymore, if they lower the price enough that everyone can afford an iPhone or iPad, Apple will have significantly lowered the crime rates world wide. But until they do that, they basically are forcing poor people into criminality.
Sorry.People are responsible for their own actions.Period.
I guess Rolexes should sell for fifty bucks and Mercedes for 15,000?
How pathetic.
Completely agree. Outside of material, marketing, and R&D costs, which includes paying Apple engineers/designers/marketers, there's the cost of legal operations (including patent and trademark management), organizing massive shipping contracts, storage costs (where to place the products between shipping times), the cost of designing and producing boxes for the products, paying people to write and translate into several languages the safety warnings and manuals, and many other things that add to the costs of selling a product. I'm not saying that Apple isn't making a high margin on their productsthey do and it's why they're so successfulbut looking at a bill of materials and estimating the gross margins from that is inaccurate.
i think you missed his sacrasm
. Still a good move overall, but I wonder how could this be avoided.
Wait. Is this for the Lightning cable or the plug? They should do it for Lightning cables, I'd stock up![]()
I already have by going to hotels and saying "I think I forgot my lightning cable here". They usually have one.
So I can buy an unofficial charger off eBay for $5, bring it in to Apple and get an official one for $10? That's $5 savings!
I'm sorry, but it's not Apple's responsibility to worry about how cheap, unlicensed, and occasionally faulty third party chargers are priced. If you don't want to fork over the $20 for an extra charger, you get what you pay for. Would it be nice if the official chargers were cheaper? Absolutely! But they're not, and in my opinion, $20 isn't too much to ask for a well built charger.
