Thank you! the feature gap between Apple and others is shrinking (all major apps are on all platforms), next frontier? Price, we are already seeing excellent phones in the $300 unlocked region. With subsidy being called out by all four carriers now, there's even more pressure on either real renovation and/or price reduction
Security is a feature, too. An especially important one when the competition has such terrible security. Then there's lack of privacy on Android. I don't see how any Android phone could be considered "excellent" no matter what the price.

True, but the nsa got access to all devices regardless :)

Please. "A Somewhat Faster?" Please do a little research prior to commenting.

Feel free to do the same.

Just because Apple claims it's 80% faster, doesn't mean everything will be 80% faster, or even anything. Most people who understand computers know that any system is only as fast as it's slowest component, and the CPU is not it. A large chunk of a CPU's time is spent waiting for other things to complete or respond.

In reality you'll probably see a marginal 10% to 20% improvement in some things, but overall it will probably not be terribly noticeable.

Exynos m1 is the king of all its even faster then a9x.

Snapdragon 820 is no joke either

Where are the numbers to back up its claims?the new memory controller in the exynos note 5 is the fastest benched in the world right now.

440mb per second.I highly doubt apple will beat that.

Are you serious?

Well, considering I have a 32 GB iPod touch that I don't have much on at all except a few games for my son, and a reasonable number of podcast subscriptions, and I'm always hovering around 16 GB free space (in other words, full if it were a 16 GB device)... and my son has a 16 GB iPad where we're always fighting to keep some free space and even doing updates is a problem... and pretty much everyone I know who has a 16 GB iPhone is pretty unhappy they have a 16 GB model...

And then factor in that 4K video probably consumes somewhere between 500M and 1GB / minute depending on compression level...

I'd guess they might just be serious. ;)

(Or, to put it another way... when you buy it new and take it out of the box, you've got a max of 3-4 minutes of video and it would be full, even if it is otherwise 'empty'.)

Cough the fappening Cough.

Seriously basically every operating system can get hacked, Apple worked with NSA I would imagine at some point in the best.

Can someone explain to me how pre-orders work at Apple.com? I've never pre-ordered an iPhone. Their new upgrade program mentions reserving one for in-store pickup. If I just want to go ahead and buy it outright, can I just have it shipped to my house or do I have to go wait in line at the store for my pre-order? Thanks.

Sigh. Wait for the NDA's to expire. I'd say at 20% most would not consider something marginal. However, specs never really matter to most. I agree with that. My point is more directed at what an Outstanding Design the A9 is. Compared to the A8 it is like going from the A5 to the A7 in one move. It will also be the most efficient 64-bit ARM based (SoC) ever designed by Apple Inc.

That excites me. ;)

1 GB of ram and I'm skipping

There is a super easy fix for that, but I will let you ponder to see what you come up with. Take your time.

Hmm... well first off, RAM and flash storage are two different things. I agree with penajmz, if it does have 1GB of RAM, I'd not get one... but I'm pretty sure we'll find it has 2 GB.

But, I'm curious about your fix. Since a lot of people WILL buy the 16GB model, they'll be happy to hear about it.

The fix is to simply not to buy a iPhone with 16gb. That, or just shoot regular videos. The 16Gb isn't made to store a plethora of data...obviously.

Exactly.... and you know that, and I know that, but a lot of people don't. If Apple were (still) focused on user-experience over spreadsheets, they'd realize that while maybe they can't quite maximize profits as much with a 32GB entry-level model, they'll have have more happy users with more long-term success.

And again Apple raised the prices for iPhones in Germany.. Now a 64GB 6s Plus costs around $200 more here than in the US. What's Tim doing with all that extra money..?!

In part it has something to do with the low exchange rate of the Euro and the high rate of the US $. You can see price rises in other countries as well, although not so extreme as in Germany or other European countries.

And, according to heise it is an increase of 110 €....

so, just because a few users think 16Gig phones are old-skool, doesn't mean no ones buy them.

I have a 16Gig, and there is no point in me wasting money of a 32Gig phone since i don't use that much space..

So, Apple would be getting more of my money... and 3/4 of the storage would be wasted anyway.. There are some of us left :)

Yes, there may be a few of you left... but the argument isn't that it is impossible to make 16GB work, but that it isn't REALLY in Apple's best interest to save the couple of dollars to start at 16GB rather than 32GB.

The reason Apple is doing it is to create an up-sell situation. That does actually help in the short-term in terms of financials. But, what I'm (and others) arguing, is that on-the-whole, that creates a bad user experience for many who buy them which, in the long run, hurts Apple more than it helps.

Like I think I mentioned earlier. I have a 32 GB iPod touch which I could make so I have over 16 GB free if I worked at trimming stuff down. But, I don't have hardly anything on there in the first place... a few apps, a few games... and some podcasts. Since it's camera is horrible, I hardly ever take photos or video.

And, I don't think you'd have 3/4 free on a 32 GB, as that would mean you have nothing but the base OS. Possible, but that would mean you don't really use your device... so save a LOT of money and just buy a dumb-phone!

But Apple is so big - does it have to care if a few so-called "cheapskate" customers get upset? After all where else will they go? I guess Apple's attitude towards anyone who complains about the 16GB is to ask the user to upgrade to 64GB or 128GB models.

I think they should care. Apple has always stressed user-experience. That is the #1 reason for their success. And, when you buy a new $700 smart-phone, you should have a good user-experience with it (within reason), and not a poor one because you didn't realize you needed to spend $800 to get that.

And, just within my circles of people who I've met with iPhones, and asking how they like them, etc. I've come across a number of them who say they like it but are disappointed they can't update or are out of space, etc. They wish they would have bought the bigger one, but they are on a 2-yr contract. Who knows if they will buy another after that, but IMO, that's not worth Apple saving <$10 in parts or even gaining a $100 up-sell on some percentage of their sales.

And yes, this is how most companies operate... and it's kind of business and marketing 101...
But it isn't how Apple should operate, and business & marketing 101 is simply wrong on this one.

Sorry I meant the NSA.

Not sure what you mean buy a bridge?

But yea its pretty much fact apple worked with the NSA. Apple like most companies also store personal data and like most companies are prone to hacking scandals. Not much difference.

In fact the ffappening was probably one of the most high profile hacking scandals ever and it involved apples services. So to say apple is above security is a massive stretch.

I completely agree with your principle. But a scrappy underdog Apple may have fervently believed in customer experience (pre 2008), a rising Apple may have "said" that they believe in it (as long as you're not holding it wrong - Antennagate in 2010). But as the crushing dominator of the tech world in 2015, do they believe in it anymore? Or are they all about maintaining margins for Wall Street quarterlies?

No, I don't think they do either, although, if you look on Apple's site and see the spec's for the iPad Pro, it shows 2GB of RAM. Why wouldn't they

So you don't compare specs with competitors. I think Apple is generally a little lower on the RAM and try to be more efficient to get more battery life. I've always thought a little more RAM would be more efficient, but I have not idea how much power that really means. My laptop runs way more efficient (appears to be faster) when I have more RAM, I don't notice that the battery runs out faster.

I looked and don't see the 2GB reference on the iPad Pro pages, do you recall where it was?
