Wouldn’t it also broaden horizons if they simply pushed classical recordings in the services that young people are already using?
Definitely, if Apple Music could be expanded and improved to more optimally and comfortably support the classical music experience, using the same platform would be the best. It's too bad that Apple Music is so cumbersome to use in general, and even worse for classical music.

I really can't believe how bad the store in the macOS app is. I browsed it for a while yesterday, then realized I wanted to search my library, so I had to hit "back" about ten times before I could do so. Is this really the best Apple can come up with? The store is basically just an embedded internet browser and it doesn't run very well.

In December 2021, there was a rumor that Apple was going to rebuild the Music app to be fully "native" and that never happened. 🤷‍♂️

Looking forward to what they come up with. If they’re keeping the original interface intact, maybe that means they will borrow from this for their Music app as well?

If you want to go to your library from wherever you are in the app, all you have to do is tap the “Library” tab in the tab bar once. This brings you to the root of that tab. This is how all apps with tab bars behave.

It’s so bad on Mac. The search thing you mention drives me crazy. At least on iPhone/iPad you can just hit the search icon and start a new search immediately.

In most cases I’m used to desktop apps being superior to mobile apps. I feel like the Mac music app must get no attention from Apple. As bad as iTunes could sometimes be, it was way better than this.

It’s an issue with the Mac version (which stinks), not the mobile one.

Why does there need to be a dedicated app? Why can't we just have it integrated in the existing music app?
Waaaaaaaay too much work....the legacy code of iTunes is still deeply rooted inside the Music app and the code would've have to be rewritten...better to just use an existing app and just modify its UI and make tweaks to it to make it work within Apple's ecosystem...

maybe they should focus on fixing their current music app and making one for windows? i suspect if you didn't force windows users to use a buggy web player or ancient software like itunes it will get more subscribers.

my spotify just ended and i was looking for an alternative. was quite impressed with Apple Music but like i say my only options on windows (where i listen to most of my music) are a broken web player that logs me out and often doesn't even play music or to use iTunes which makes me feel like i'm living in the 00's. Apple Music Cider is hardly worth mentioning...it's a 3rd party app which is also a broken buggy mess and developed by disgusting people.

what are you thinking apple??

What's next - singer songwriter app, rock app, garage punk app...I just don't get why they are splitting classical into it's own thing. on the one hand, we regularly listen to classical and it is actually a pain to navigate down the music app--> radio--> classical section. but also just find it dumb to split off one genre of music apart from everything else.

For this to be a separate app from Apple Music would be an INSANE move on Apple’s part. Forget not subscribing to it, if they do this, and people really want to send a message, they should cancel their Apple Music subscription until they roll both into one. Ridiculous.

Why don’t they start creating separate apps for ALL genres of music. Apple Music Metal, Apple Music Pop, Apple Music Jazz. WTF. No words.

I love classical music, but I also try to have as few apps as possible. Why would Apple make another standalone app for more music? This would actually probably make me to classical music even less as it’s less accessible

Apple Music's search algorithm is a complete mess when it comes to finding classical recording. Anglicisation is just one of the many problems...So a much better and smarter app is needed and redoing Apple Music is probably out of the question at this moment.

that’s true, just look at how much work it is to find a particular type of classical content. People don’t seem realize classical content is quite diverse, also music having 53 categories which classical is one shows they haven’t thought it out making it easy for classical fans.

FLAC has NO advantage? On what planet is this true? That’s demonstrably false. If you are using ALAC I hate to say it, but you are in a very small minority. If I may ask, what would be the benefit to using ALAC if Apple simply supported both?

Of course, there are better and worse encodings. But why doesn't it reassure you that even connoisseurs used to be happy with the crackling vinyl record or the, from today's point of view, infinitely expensive and ridiculously bad loudspeakers and systems?
It has a lot to do with home and culture, and the ability to scare away the small critical obstacles through enthusiasm.

Enjoyment always consists of many components, and often the connoisseurship of a good recording arrangement is more decisive than nowadays encodings, which in general all have quite a high level (lossless).

A friend of mine from the old days owned a high end handmade vinyl record player that cost a lot of money, and just this made it possible for him to listen to classical music in a relaxed way. Others needed equalizer units because they didn't agree with the frequency weighting of the sound engineer, and tube amplifier for timbre.

There are such people, and you are probably one of them. Personally, I enjoy classical music with Apple and Apple speakers and I'm more satisfied listening to music (also in the classical world) than ever before in my life. I wish you the same.
