So problem solved! Let’s have 120hz the new standard on every new iPhone sold. People with disabilities like eye strain can turn it off! And the majority can enjoy the premium feel of fluid scrolling through text and photos. 😊

One has to assume that Apple has the data on how many people would notice the higher refresh rate. My cousin, for example, has a 14 Pro but lives in low power mode for whatever reason, so she's literally never seen the high refresh rate.

TL;DR: Tim's tea leaves probably say he can get away with a 60hz panel.

The smoother the scrolling, the better. On Mac, Apple 'cheat' it, and it isn't true 120hz, sadly. Even the iPhone 15PM doesn't seem perfectly buttery. In some ways I enjoy looking at the older iPhone LCDs than modern OLED's, but I'm happy either way with the screens. Apple could certainly try harder on Mac (and most iPad screens), but they need to save their pennies to invest in a brain for Siri. 😅

Hopefully Apple AI will be as good as they said it will and not another Siri

If after all this I ask the new AI Siri to convert a time zone to my local time to which it just replies with the time where I am, I'm going to scream lol

Also "When is sunset?" "It doesn't look sunny out"

If SE4 gonna have same processor as base 16 i don't see a need to spend extra money on base 16. But knowing Apple, they gonna handicap SE4 so people spend more money for 16s

You mean…product differentiation across pricing tiers?

The nerve.

120 Hz is very noticeable. Just because it's not to some of you, doesn't mean it's not noticeable for everyone.
and conversely 120Hz not not noticeable or not important to other people. I have a mix of devices with and without. It’s a little nicer with 120Hz but I have to focus on it to really notice when I switch devices. Very quickly it just seems normal again and you forget about any difference. It’s a nice-to-have feature.

Pfft. A15, A16, A17, slight incremental improvements marketed as the next best thing since slice bread.

Apple's PR machine in full flow - wholly digest by the insanely gullible to get you to part with even more hard earned wonga for no good reason.

Pfft - I'm sticking with my BB Bold 9780. Now that was the best thing since sliced bread.;)

there is a new PlayStation every year?
I get your point but… No. And? They put 60hz in standard iPhones since a few years so I would say. Trent almost matches with how often we get new PlayStation with better graphics (90hz + in std iPhone) ;)

It’s not for watching videos. It’s for fluid scrolling. I don’t want a device anymore that doesn’t handle fluid scrolling. Scrolling through photo’s or text without the stuttering. For the premium prices Apple is offering their iPhones this should be standard these days.

But Timmy thinks differently 🤑
120Hz does matter for videos, for those who have discerning eyes (when it's always locked to 120Hz rather than the dynamic refresh rates of ProMotion), as 24fps, 30 fps, and 60fps are all evenly divisible by 120, so there's no weird artifacts like 3:2 pulldown to make them fit the display refresh rate (same vain as 2x retina resolutions). However, 60Hz+dynamic frame rate makes that moot as the refresh rate can scale down to match the content frame rate. I sure wish the dynamic refresh rate feature wasn't locked to having 120Hz.

What's the point continue selling the iPhone 15 if the new SE4 will have the latest A18 CPU and will be the cheapest in their lineup?

5 product identifiers, so yeah I guess the fifth is a new iPhone SE.

*pats iPhone 13 mini comfortingly*

"it's OK, buddy"

The iPhone SE is rumored to have a iPhone 14 style body so I think the 13 Mini community have already accepted that the SE isn’t replacing it.

I've already started paying attention to other options ... (13 mini still fine for a good long while)

I'm open to basically anything other than a phone larger than my 13 Mini...including going to some total downgrade like a Light Phone, etc

Size & weight are my #1 criteria for phones

Same

Could bring potentially battery savings to the non pro models

Interesting point with game consoles is that the graphics become better and better year for year with the same HW. There wasn’t a big difference between latest PS3 titles and first PS4 ones.
IMO the apple chips are not utilized at all and there is a lot of potential not used.

I'm waiting for the Apple Watch Extreme that's so big it runs iOS. Then hopefully I can disable the authentication and put it in my pocket

Timmy spends extra hours every day to find new ways to squeeze that last penny out of your wallet. He is very creative and innovative at that. Wish he puts the same amount of energy in every product Apple delivers. I’m sure we’ll see at least use of latest innovations and a Siri who talks and understands like a compagnon 😅

One key reason that could justify a $800 phone with 60hz display was their top of the line chip in these base models, but Apple seems to have lost their chip superiority even with their flagship A17 Pro to Dimensity 9300 at least in multi core, there are even rumors about next SD chip beating A18 Pro so I'm not exactly sure why they are still downgrading base models even further since iPhone 14, it's not like they cost less or have a high refresh rate display or literally anything better now.
Base model iPhone is just a horrible deal, flagship price yet 60hz display, no telephoto camera, no LTPO.
I'm not sure how iPhone 15/Plus owners felt when Apple announced that they won't get AI on a phone that they bought less than a year ago.
I was fine until the chip part made me laugh. You still haven't saw the true potential of A17 just cuz Apple limits it through software. Before releasing there were multiple leaks where the A17 pro scored 3200 in single core and 8500 in multicore. But due to overheating reasons they had to cram down the power and its multicore is reduced. Also multicore just matters in multitasking and single core matters the most in everything like gaming, rendering etc. Not everyone uses those hundreds of multitasking features and maybe 5% of the world or atleast in my state uses barely any multitasking features.

And the reason many eSports gamer uses intel cuz they have superior single core performance which matters the most in gaming.

A17 Pro reaching 8500 in multi-core is a fictional story because it never happened.
Multi-core does matter a lot in everyday tasks as well (not to be mistaken that single core is not important), with your logic Apple could release iPhone 14PM with only one core just like the 2007 iPhone, and because iPhones were not advertised as gaming oriented/multi-tasking devices, then everything should have been fine, but that's another fictional story.
iOS doesn't even support multi tasking (except maybe dynamic island?) so yep I guess majority won't do multi tasking with their iPhone mainly because we can't even if we wanted to.
Single core performance being the most important factor for PC gaming is also ancient news from Intel 4c/8t era, nowadays IPC, 3D cache, power consumption and reliability are very important as well, just look at the mess that Intel has done with their recent high end CPU with almost all of them dying at certain point. compare the single thread performance between 7800x3d and 14900k and the gaming performance for example, 14900k is 35% faster in SC but slower in gaming.
