120 Hz is very noticeable. Just because it's not to some of you, doesn't mean it's not noticeable for everyone.

Just because it's noticeable doesn't mean one cares. My personal phone is a 13 Pro and my work phone is a 2022 SE; I can easily and quickly tell the difference..probably could see the difference from across the room..but it just doesn't matter to me.

Either screen is just fine.

I wonder if they'll bump the Pros up to 12GB RAM? If they don't do it this year, they'll surely do it next year.

Wondering if Apple will slim down the offered products to just iPhone 16 (and Pro), iPhone 15 and iPhone SE4 to remove all lightning phones from the lineup, or if they'll just not offer the 14 in Europe?
I have no idea why you got downvoted for this comment. I wondered the same thing. I suspect they'll thin the herd.

The rumors right now say 16 Pro's will still be 8gb of RAM, the 17 Pro's will be 12GB.

Honest question for you guys. Is anyone under the impression that the AI features are always loaded into RAM?

I can certainly see them sticking with less RAM this year, to give the impression it's enough for the foreseeable future 😬 👀

Plus they won't have too much at launch.

They've already tempered expectations by saying what will and won't will be available at launch.

WWDC was a bit of a dog and pony show. Impress and reassure investors Apple was not behind the curve on AI. Then quietly back down a few days later.

Investors know they're behind the AI curve, and WWDC and the big stock dump that immediately followed it suggest that it didn't change their opinions. Apple don't seem to care to prepare for the future... if the future involves on device AI, safe to assume the future requires a bucket load of RAM.

You're right that they're tempering expectations, and holding back a lot of the AI goodies they discussed for later. Heck, the EU isn't getting much of anything. Siri's stupidity might also not be resolved widely any time soon.

We really are all diferrent

120hz "isn't even perceptible"?

Wow - not for me.
I notice it instantly and truly LOVE it

Now that I'm used to how instantly things move and respond to my inputs it's really really hard to go back.
It makes my 13 Mini and iPad Mini 5 feel sort of like they are moving through a touch of mud (vs my Hack + 120hz OLED)

It’s same as with PlayStation. Once you play on the new generation. Previous games generations start looking like sh… and you start thinking how you could enjoy playing the game with such poor graphics ;D Have you ever tried 120 hz display? Try it. You will never want to move back to 60hz.
there is a new PlayStation every year?

If the iPhone SE gets the A18 even in a binned form with some GPU cores disabled or something, that's going to be a crazy value jump from the current one that looks like a joke next to the competition. That getting AI would be nice. I had thought it would be on A16 or something (seems like they want to dump the A17 N3B node asap)

No, but you would need more Memory on-device so that nothing the user is doing gets kicked out of memory when Siri is fired up.

Anecdotal, but when I run some generative AI stuff on my desktop I can't so much as watch a Youtube video because of how much it strains the computer's resources. It's bad UX right now, and more memory would definitely help a bit.

About time. Can't charge top-of-the-line prices while putting old chips in the devices. I am sure the only reason they are doing this is because of AI though.
No they are doing this because N3B that the A17 Pro is made on is a dead end process and N3E is both cheaper and better so it doesn't make sense to put a more expensive to produce chip in the 16 - it's better to scale up production of the A18 and use binned chips.

We don't know if this is marketing only. A18 could be a slower and cost reduced N3E version of A17 Pro.
That absolutely is not happening. N3B and N3E are not design compatible so the A17 would need to be redesigned for N3E. They are not going to spend time and money designing 2 chips when they can just scale up A18 production and bin the chips for different products.

I don't understand all the noise about 120Hz. It provides ZERO improvement over 60Hz. As you've noted, it's not even perceptible.
It gives you fluid scrolling without the stuttering. For me it’s a must have for a premium phone. Fluid showing photo’s and internet browsing.

For me it’s a no brainer in 2024. Most phone vendors only sell 120hz screens these days.

I remember Apple introduced this with the iPhone 12 or 13 with big fanfare. They even got a fancy name for it I can’t remember. It was something about dynamic refresh rates that went automatically to zero or 120hz when needed for fluid scrolling.

It’s common used now for laptops as well. Except Apple is keeping it for the pro lines while most competitors use it as a standard.

I guess it saves Timmy a few pennies 🤑 and forcing you tu buy a pro line for the “premium” experience.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro which I believe is 120 Hz. I didn't really notice any improvement from the iPhone 11 Pro. I wouldn't even know what to look for.

I don't game or even watch videos (except maybe a few of the short videos I record myself) on my iPhone.
It’s not for watching videos. It’s for fluid scrolling. I don’t want a device anymore that doesn’t handle fluid scrolling. Scrolling through photo’s or text without the stuttering. For the premium prices Apple is offering their iPhones this should be standard these days.

But Timmy thinks differently 🤑

I find it noticeable in a bad way - I'm super sensitive to motion interpolation and I find devices with "Pro Motion" nauseating to use so I intentionally avoid them.
Maybe Apple should make a switch in accessibilities to turn it of. Like for the colorblind people they’ve options in accessibilities. Apple has many features for people with disabilities like you.

So make 120hz the standard so most people can enjoy the premium feel of fluid scrolling through text and photo’s.

The switch is already there.

ProbablyDylan said that you can switch it off. So let the majority enjoy the fluid scrolling 😊.
