Seriously?

This is like saying "I worked for a car repair company and saw a lot of damaged cars".

No kidding. You worked in REPAIRS. Did you get many healthy iPods in to the shop?

Didn't think so.

I saw MANY Macbook Pro and Powerbook batteries swollen to the point where the internals were falling out working at the Genius Bar.

KIRO, Microsoft, and Amy

I just watched the exploding iPod story on KIRO and my first thought was, "What is KIRO reporter Amy Clancy's connection to Microsoft"? Overheating and exploding batteries in any iPod is an important story but the way this story was framed it would be easy to wonder if Microsoft's hometown TV station is being a little too zealous in their pursuit of the truth. Isn't a new Zune getting ready for release? Coincidence or...

So once again I have to wonder if Amy Clancy (or her producer?) has a direct tie to Microsoft? Could a close friend or family member be a Microsoft employee or vendor? I hope someone with the right research chops follows the bread crumbs just to see if they lead to Redmond...

For the record I love my iPod and really love my new iPhone 3GS.

MS is known for its past shady PR practices, i.e. submitting/lobbying for favorable reviews, spreading inaccurate information about competitors, and feeding blogs with rumors of mal intent. This scenario would not be the least bit surprising...

This is pretty rough, considering Apple runs so much of their company off of image. How will the Apple protectors spin this strategy? Apple needs to just be upfront about things and take care of them swiftly. The stuff their legal department does is beginning to worry me as an investor. This has to be strike 3 for them for the year.
As a fellow shareholder I agree. The Lions share of Apple’s success is due to the masterful work Steve Jobs did to position Apple as a "cool company" that has magic powers.

Beyond that and cloaking products in shiny metals, it's getting harder and harder for Apple to keep up the image.

As we witness a slow incremental building of anti Apple sentiment from those who've had bad experiences, it reminds one that Apple's lost their advantage and now competes on a level playing field for the first time ever.

Where things go from here is being overlooked by the devotees pointing out the fat revenue of current sales. Yet concerns are being expressed and roundly trashed by those who only see dollars and fail to understand the ebb and flow of business.

If the prediction of the economy faltering comes true the slap of reality may knock out the devotees cold.
