On their specs sheet it says the lens cover is made of sapphire crystal. However, Jerry Rigs confirmed from his scratch test that it is not. Apple being cheap this year :/

who said it isn't saphire. it said it took a hardness of 6.. thats pretty damn hard.. im sure all the iphones have had the same camera lenses. nothing new.
I'm guessing he scratched the anti reflective coating.
It seems like you're not jumping immediately to the worst possible conclusion and that's not how things are done at MR.
If Apple says it's a sapphire lens cover, I'm inclined to believe them.
Not sure Jerry Rigs Everybing is the most authority source on build, I mean he's a social media star who gets revenue and traffic for breaking and damaging stuff. Not the most scientific approach. It's sort of like Will It Blend to me...
Doesn't matter what you believe. This guy on YouTube is credible and his stuff has been spot on for a while now. I'd rather believe a test vs words

Synthetic sapphire is probably lower than real sapphire.
Why would Apple lie about something on the phone knowing that there are people lining up to (A examine every single part of the phone and (B attempt to start a class action lawsuit against them?

I will say that Saphire has a hardness of 9...it is the second hardest to diamond. A 6 is less then quartz which is a 7...a 6 is pretty bad in alll honesty...
Then sue Apple, I'm fed up with people finding things to have a go about. It's the same material as the 6s, be it sapphire or not, I've never heard anyone complain about a scratched lens cover before.
Apple said it was Sapphire Crystal. Thus if an object with a hardness level of 6 can scratch it, they lied about it being Sapphire crystal. Simple.
Hey I'm presenting the facts. If you're butt hurt over it... then that sounds like a personal problem. A company should be honest in what it puts out there. It's their responsibility.
