Under a 1000 would be very appealing....especially with some decent interface to my iPhone
That makes me interested / curious why iPhone mirroring has not been incorporated quite yet. Love that feature on my MBA, anyways I remember initial feedback with wearing AVP how looking at your iPhone was not suitably clear enough to be workable.

I use it with my mac too. But just curious why you want the usb hdmi input when the wireless input is already perfect with no lag at all?
That's how you'd reduce costs if you can make it a display only. Drop the entire M1 subsystem and use the R1 instead.

I see.

For me, I am hoping that the new AVP will come with built in MacOS like a Mac mini inside the AVP, especially if it is going to go to M5. This way, I will just carry a AVP only, instead of a mac during my trip. When this happens, I would love to have the usb connection to plug in external SSD for video/photo editing work.

One can dream 😆

None of this matters if the thing isn't lighter. Thats the most important issue. It needs to not be an ergonomic nightmare before anyone will use it.

To get the $1999 price by embracing what the pessimists will then call a much blurrier experience, does that actually accomplish anything? Because as soon as Vpro compromises the "vision" part, it's basically the same "blurrier" image available on far-cheaper-than $1999 units already in the market.
I believe that it will not be blurrier. Instead, Apple may compromise on the colour. Like you, I believe that Apple will keep the clarity, which is a key reason why I love the AVP so much.

Unless it’s a super sharp clear display, who is watching movies on a headset like this rather than a 65”+ OLED screen or projector? Ive tried watching movies on the quest 3 and even being lighter it’s just not a great experience. I wonder if Apple just took the decision to launch the Vision Pro because they knew it would pay for itself and give them further knowledge of the manufacturing process and market.
Have you actually tried the AVP? I have a 77 inch LG OLED which I bought a few months ago, and yet I prefer the quality and size offered by the AVP. The quality is even better than what you get in the cinema and you can get cinema sized screens in the AVP.

That said, I wish that AVP can watch the same content. Currently, I cannot share the joy with my family, so when watching with my family, I fall back on the 77 OLED TV.

It is already implemented. Just that you have to control it from your phone. I am hoping for the phone to be controllable from AVP in future

there is also no reason why the iPhone interface cannot be scaled up within the AVP so that it is nice and clear.

I also agree with your earlier wish of the AVP becoming a mac, but knowing how Apple operate, it will remain as it is as they will like to be able to sell you 2 expensive devices.

I don’t have one yet but I’m curious. Couldn’t you wear the Vision Pro and your family watch the tv and just SharePlay it or something? I was thinking about this and how I’m gonna spend time with my wife while trying not to ignore her when i get one lol

This is another big reason why the price has to come down, so every member of the family can have one and content can be shared simultaneously.

Not sure if the M chip in the VP can be ditched altogether with good results, but definitely not if your connection with Mac is over HDMI—because the M chip and R chip have to talk to each other as instantly as possible. Pretty sure you’d at least have to use Thunderbolt.

Hopefully it will get lighter but apparently there are starting to be some good third party solutions for comfort, like Annapro is one I hear mentioned often.

you mean Vision line, Air, Lite (whatever) and Pro, both standalone or else, from 1300-1500 and just because we talking about Apple 🤦‍♂️

I hope just Apple Vision on its own is just a placeholder name since I feel like Apple Vision Air makes way more sense. Not giving the cheaper version its own modifier would just cause confusion since some people already call the AVP Apple vision for short.

Also calling it Air more prominently implies that it’s lighter, which will undoubtedly be a big selling point for lots of people.

How to boost Apple Vision Pro sales worldwide. Just support prescription lenses with Apple Vision Pro. Or sell two models: one not supporting prescription lenses (current one), and other only to watch 3D movies (or any movie on large area), allowing prescription glasses (which would also be a much much, much cheaper model, selling like hotcakes). Forget spatial computing for it. Only for 3D movies. Problem solved for all.

Probably Apple will not do that, unless forced to do it. If sales of the current Apple Vision Pro are scarce and people ask for the other model, Apple could make it. That would be awesome.

what about the tethering to a phone - seemed to be an obvious way to save money.

3D movies and stuff is my primary use case - so indeed not a bad idea

…The current Vision Pro supports Zeiss optical inserts which I use when I don’t use my contacts.

Unless there’s a nuance with that when it comes to prescription lenses I’m not understanding this morning in the West Coast, you’re sharing a falsehood about the functionality about the Vision Pro

It wouldn’t be a standalone headset which is fine similar to non-standalone spatial computing glasses at the moment necessary to keep costs less than $1000 (they also sacrifice pixel density at the moment).

Many Spatial computing headset manufacturers sell standalone and non-standalone headsets.

The con of this approach is that latently all general phone/watch users may have to contribute to such an approach supplementary spatial computing tech needed to be added to phones and other devices Apple sells to optimally support this means of connecting to a headset.

Yes - but the Vision Pro has an ordinary M2 nothing special - the proprietary chip for the special hardware would need to stay anyhow
