Until Apple actually release their projected and actual sales figures for 12 mini, then its all conjecture/speculation/CEO armchairing regarding how successful the 12 mini has been so far. They never release iphone sales figures so we will never know for sure. What we do know is that the iphone 12 mini is a fantastic phone that can do everything the 12 can do, just in a more compact package.

Calling it "iPhone 12", like the regular "iPhone 12", would just cause confusion.

Why would it cause confusion? We have the MBP in 2 sizes without different names. Same goes for the iPad Pro and iMac. I think they should make it simple and stick with iPhone and iPhone Pro. We don’t need the Mini or Max names.

It’s important to note that we simply don’t know how many iPhone Mini’s they sold compared to other models because Apple don’t release those figures. It could simply be that Apple over estimated how popular the Mini would be and thought it would be the biggest seller. This is not a typical year and it must be difficult to accurately predict demand for each model. They won’t make the same mistake next year. I don’t like the name but I do like the product. I prefer a smaller iPhone because it’s lighter in my pocket.

It’s a silly argument and the biggest cope imaginable; by all estimates the pro max is a great seller, by some the top selling 12 series phone, and it’s a name which is much more absurd than the mini. The XR also sounded stupid as hell. 12 mini sounds fine and it’s name isn’t an excuse for shoddy sales.

Just out of interest can you please tell me exactly how many iPhone Mini’s have been sold so far.

Well done on ignoring my point completely. Keep coping.

You said the iPhone Mini had “shoddy sales”. I was simply asking you to quantify that.

I don’t want to get into a long and acrimonious argument with you so I will end it here. You have your view and I have mine. I hope we can agree to disagree and move on.

The sizes have different names, Apple calls them the '13" MBP' and the '16" MBP'; the '11" iPad Pro' and the '12.9" iPad Pro'; etc. Apple uses name-names, instead of number-names, for the phones because the sizes are so similar.

Besides, Apple has had the iPad Mini for many years so Apple isn't afraid of the name 'Mini'.

The miss here for Apple was not making the mini a pro model. The lineup should have been:

Pro Line
iPhone 12 Pro Max
iPhone 12 Pro
iPhone 12 Pro Mini

Value Line
iPhone 12
iPhone SE
If they do that, a lot of people will pick the value column over the pro column. There's not enough differentiation when the non pro models are "good enough" for checking your bank account balance and the like. That puts people into the "value" column, where they have to decide between an SE and a 12. That's bad from a profit standpoint since you've lowered your range from $800-1200 to $500-800, or something like that.
