If the overall size of the phone is larger than current, which I assume it will be, there should be plenty of space to put a bigger battery. A larger battery doesn't necessarily need to be thicker.

A larger screen will use more power. And even if it didn't, I would still prefer to keep the current thickness of the iPhone in a larger model, for better battery life.

No, please stop. This is overkill. My 5S is so light I had to get a case to make it fit better in my hand. That horrible nails on a chalkboard metal backing didn't help either.

stop making it thinner. Use that extra space for a bigger battery.

I feel like a broken record for saying this, but I wish Apple would keep the thickness the same and use the extra space for a bigger battery.

I would like a thinner phone if they could achieve it. I charge my phone every night and my battery has never died on me.

I know its been said over and over again, but I'm gonna repeat it anyway: stop making it thinner! Use the saved space for more battery, better camera, a bread toasting function, etc.

This lighter and thinner obsession will be the death of Apple.

Lol, you made my day with this narrow-minded comment. Did MacBook Air turn out to be Apple's death? Yes, the first generation was very bad in almost every aspects compared to the MBP, but it pointed out the future. Then the 2010 (and rather the 2011) model came and it really changed the way how I for example think about portable computers. Did it seem a little crazy from Apple when they got rid of the DVD drive? And the HDD? Yes, at first, maybe. But today it is clear that almost every choices Apple made were inevitable and way ahead the competition. Somebody always have to take a leap to keep the whole industry moving forward. One can ask, what is the point of an even thinner phone. The simple answer from Apple would be: it has no real reasonable point, but we'll make it, because we CAN. It's that simple.

Its quite ammusing how people start to equate thin/slim with crappy without even knowing the form and shape the device ends up taking..Atleast wait for the darn thing to launch before jumping :)

I'm so tired of making the iDevices thinner and lighter.

How thin is thin enough?
How weak are we as a species that the original iPhone was too thick and too heavy?

Forget about having the thinnest phone on the planet, use space savings to put a bigger battery in.

My brand new iPhone 5s gets horrible battery life compared to the 4s. Despite turning off background stuff, limited brightness and with most of the other the battery saving techniques in place, the 5s uses on average 15% but up to 20% of battery life per hour! Without gaming or video playback.

15-20% / hr < > 10 hours of actual use
and doesn't come close to "all day" battery life.

I have been forced to plugging it in while driving and working to reduce the number of charging cycles.

My hopes for the IP6:
4.7inch sapphire with slightly higher PPI and better display.
A8 (more gfx power, same cpu power, lower power consumption aka better battery)
32GB starting model.
All LTE bands supported.
Better 3G/LTE antennas.
Healthbook with integration for workouts, wifi scales, bluetooth pulse bands and calorie counting (including fat/protein/carb distribution) and a wast food database, tons of stats/graph reporting.
Double up on iCloud storage or 5GB per device attached.

That's why I most people have a case on everything small and breakable.

Except for the iPod Classic, which was the size of a cigarette pack, I have dropped everything else.

While I like the look of the iPhone (BrAun fan since the 60s) it is more important to save what it would cost to replace.

I understand why people use a case, but in a way it defeats the purposed of the high tech construction. What's so great about machined aluminium when it's covered with a $20 plastic case?

The only phone that Apple has made that I personally think is easy to hold onto is the 5C. It fits the hand well and you don't have to think about having a secure grip. My opinion, of course.

Thin is sexy. That is public opinion. Public opinion sells
To put it another way, when thinner stops selling, phones and tablets will stop getting thinner. But they may morph into something unexpected.

Zoolander didn't stop cell phones from shrinking. What stopped them from shrinking was the need for a big colorful display. Without the iPhone and other smart phones, the trend would have likely continued until the entire phone could fit into your ear like a bluetooth headset.

The iPhone doesn't much resemble a bag phone from 1990. And the phone of the future probably won't much resemble an iPhone. It might not be called a phone at all. Think of Google Glass, or the rumored iWatch. And don't think they are the end, either. All technology is transitional.

I'm more frightened than excited about Google Glass and the iWatch, even though I have usually welcomed new technology. But my fear won't stop it any more than my grandparents' distrust of personal computers stopped them. I'm more than half-way through my three score and ten expected lifespan, and it's the youngsters who will control what the next big thing is.

I have a little sympathy for those who fondly remember when a phone could also be used as a bludgeon. But like me, I suspect they will have to get used to the future.

I'd rather have longer battery life than anything else with the iPhone 6. I don't even get a full days usage from my iPhone 5s.

I would totally agree with that. First thing I did when I got my iPhone 5s home was to put it in the Apple leather case. I've never taken it out as I find the 5s uncomfortable to hold. If the 5c had Touch ID I would have bought that instead as it's much more comfortable to hold and you don't need a case which makes it much easier to dock it with the multitude of iPhone peripherals out there.

PS I'm hoping that the iPhone 6 will come with an Apple leather case that acts as a conductive wireless charger without blocking the thunderbolt port.

Don't make it thinner!!!

Leave it so you can improve the camera and put in a bigger battery!!!!
No need for even thinner devices

My fear is that with the (rumored) larger iPhones, the device will be able to be even thinner (larger screen, but not significantly more electronics) and that'll make the camera part thinner and that would likely reduce quality :(

yes it counts. Don't make it thinner!!!

Exactly. Thinner is STUPID. Put in a battery that lasts for more than half a day.

You need to think about the bigger picture. How about putting in a bigger battery in the space that is saved? Given a choice of a thinner phone or more battery life i am going to pick battery life every time. Its the same deal with the 2012 and onwards iMacs, I have one and yes the thin design is nice but if i had the choice to add more features like a blu-ray drive or space for another 3.5" HDD im going to choose the extra features every time. Thinner is not always better ;)

When I read that rumor I thought of my last Nokia, which was a 5310 XpressMusic. Loved the size of that phone. Turns out: it's thicker than my iPhone 5! So it looks like the real great thing about its site was the with and the height.

This makes me hope for an iPhone which is not as tall and hopefully comes without bezels.

Edit: it's also much lighter than the iPhone. So that's another thing where Apple can still improve.

Oh yeah... repeat with me... A BREAD TOASTING FUNCTION !! :D

Or use that liberated space for more battery!

What is the thickness of the earphone jack? That is the thinnest they can go, which is not too far.

Until they make a proprietary headphone jack and you either need Apple EarPods or a $19.99 adapter. Sound familiar...

The 4s was a brick, the only iPhone which was too heavy IMO, it always would pull down my pants.

Wow, loose pants.

But we know that the new iPhone will be thinner and lighter than the one before, with the same crappy battery life, because that's what happened in every sing iPhone launch up to now. :( I know that in my case I could never get through an 8-hour "day" without having to recharge the battery.

For once Apple could surprise up and use any technical advances to shrink the guts of the iPhone but use that saved space for a larger battery. Their 10 hour battery life claims are ridiculous.

But of course they will add more features in time. :) They are just pushing the things that are relatively easy to achieve (like thinness, weight) to their limits, so they can concentrate on other things later. And I think we all know that even a battery that has twice the capacity of the current one wouldn't be anything revolutionary if you compared it to the "old times" when cell phone batteries lasted more than a week. Something bigger has to come one day, a completely new technology.
