Give me a package with Streaming services that are offspring from a cable station. where I can watch live once in a blue moon.
Showtime Pbs HBO Comedy Central AMC for example.

I watch 99% of all tv streamed from Netflix or the channels own webpage.
If I had a package with Comedy Central I could watch shows there without breaks. The commercial breaks are really annoying. Mostly it's the same damn promo for the Comedy Central app.

I haven't had a cable subscription for more than five years.

I don't know why, but for some reason a majority of people still prefer traditional television channels.
I don't like advertising either, but the TV networks infect their streaming services with it too, and unlike regular TV I can't fast-forward through a streaming ad. Moreover, regular TV offers

better video quality
no loss of quality or stuttering when there are many viewers. overloaded networks kill streaming.
pause/resume any time. streaming usually requires that once started you must finish watching on the network's schedule not yours.
recordings saved locally. no worries that the network will make an episode unavailable before you get to watch it.

Live TV is a non-starter for me. I personally wouldn't watch if it was free.

Give us the option to install any FULL apps we want and Apple TV will be great. But don't limit it, like Android TV, where the Plex version is more limited than than PlexConnect for ATV. This is why I returned my Google TV.

I hope "Search" covers Netflix and that it is customizable.

I'd also ask for the ability to hide the Apple content on top, but it's never going to happen....

I couldn't agree with you more. If this service is live TV only, it is DoA. Although I doubt it will be only live TV, that is like a huge step backwards. I equate live TV only to a new iPhone with a retractable antenna and it in a flip-phone style. People wouldn't buy it.

Am I the only one who still just torrents on their PC and watches through VLC or now Chromecasting through Chrome to my TV? I don't get why you'd want to navigate these slow UIs, not have most content on them and have to pay for it :\

What is the rumored evidence that they will offer a bundle for $40? Every TV provider already does better than that and people hate it. People want individual channels. There's no way Apple is going to offer a small bundle for $40 when cable companies like Cox here in Phoenix offers 150 channels for $39. It will be something totally different.

Nah. Many in the Third World do it, too....

The rest of us are happy paying for something like Netflix.

Slow UI? Have you ever seen an ATV?

Chromecast is less stable for me than ATV, plus it doesn't have remote control tie in, as Air Play does. I don't want to fumble with my phone or iPad every time I want to pause a movie.

Dunno, I just go to my PC, open up the folder, select what I want and I find it so much faster than putting up with many layers of UI. If I want to pause I just press double tap my phone and click pause on the lock screen, that's if I'm streaming from my phone.

Netflix and any other service in the UK doesn't have anything, you find yourself subscribing to 100 different services :\ Like if I want F1 I need Sky, if I want MotoGP I need BT... they're two different broadband providers who have the rights. Then Netflix barely has any content other than some good original stuff they do, Amazon Prime is the same, then you have to sub to HBO and many other things...

**** it, I'll torrent it all thanx, just drag the file to chrome on my PC, streams to my TV and I'm done. The good thing about streaming from Chrome is it supports Flash player, which means many live Streams of sports for free, I'll stream that to my TV too.

As for Chromecast not being stable, I dunno, I've had zero issues myself, but my router is in the same room.

Or you live in a third world country where you can get a gigabit up/down unmetered unrestricted for the equiv. 65$ and downloading is legal.....

And Netflix sux because the don't have contemporary and affordable offerings....

I have a Chromecast sitting in a box of all electronics somewhere. I bought it because it was really cheap and I just wanted to see how it was.

Unless things have changed with Chromecast in the last year, the usability and UI of the Apple TV is so far ahead of the Chromecast. I never heard anyone complaining about the UI of Apple TV being slow. I do agree that many of the Smart TV/BR UIs were slow, and not user friendly. Well, the ones I have used were.

The three biggest problems with the UI on Apple TV has nothing to do with stability or lag. One is that there isn't a single search feature, another is the layout of movies and TV show linked from a computer's library should be like Netflix and not a huge list, and the last thing is the organization of the channels. Other than that it's UI is great.

I am not sure how people can compare Chromecast and Apple TV. I hated using my phone for it. It needs to be computer and phone free with its own remote, or have remote learning like the Apple TV. But I guess it wouldn't be able to hide behind the TV then.

For me no lossless audio, no interest.

I just can not get my head around apple's thinking on this, just what is the reasoning behind their failure to provide a codec for DTS-HD or True-HD.

With Netflix and Amazon Prime close to delivering content with DTS-X and Dolby Atmos why do they stick with 5.1?
Because probably at least 75% of people don't even have a 5.1 setup at all and probably 90% of those who do don't have a setup capable of more than 5.1? Even people with 5.1+ gear rarely have it calibrated, or have it in a good listening environment.

I'm not saying it's not important. It obviously is to you and I get that, I just think Apple's not concerned with "niche of a niche" scenarios, their history has rarely shown they care about something until it has mass appeal or can generate significant additional revenue. Look how long it took them to go to 1080p even, and I wouldn't hold my breath for 4K either. Or get to even 1 GB of iPhone RAM. Why? Because most people don't care. Enthusiasts do, but most people aren't enthusiasts. If it works well and looks and sounds "pretty good", that's good enough for most people. Apple frequently targets that "good but maybe not the absolute best" spot, and as of right now that's still 1080p + standard 5.1 audio.

That rumor is from 2006 and keeps getting renewed every year.

You'd think people would realize by now that it was completely fictitious.
IT wasn't ficticious.... they just scrapped the plans to make an actual television. It was a real product that had been in the labs for a few years.... but they dropped it a few years back and people just dont' want to let go.

Personally, TV's have gotten affordable. The last thing I want is an Apple television driving the market back up.

You're comparing introductory vs non-introductory rates which isn't exactly a fair comparison. Unless you're the type to not have a problem bitching to comcast every 6-12 months to maintain those intro rates, it's better to compare the non-introductory rates when deciding if cord-cutting is worth while.

There is no introductory rates for internet only, that's the only comparison...I do call up Comcast and try to reduce the bill whenever I have the time to waste on the phone (i.e long boring car rides) but out of 15 years with Comcast, it's never been really an issue to convince them to keep the introductory price. That's my experience.

Update:

Just had a conversation with Comcast when they screwed up my bill and mentioned the internet only option with the rep. She said the internet only option is about $10/mos cheaper and it's the next speed tier down below what I'm getting...

"Apple wants to offer "a package of popular channels" for $40/month."

That's $40 more per month than it's worth. Everything they're selling is available free.

Good to hear. I suppose you also tie a wire to the power lines next to your house to power your TV.... And steal copper wire to pay for your internet.

As to Netflix, it has a lot of great older, indie and foreign content. Of course, I do imagine that some can't wait to see Taken 3 as soon as it comes out, but can't afford the ticket price.
