sorry for reviving a old thread, but what if you took this to an apple store and they did this for you? it would be done by an apple technician and therefore should it not void the warrenty. (if i did this with my big ass hands i would def. break it)

I don't think the Genius Squad will do the mod for you. I't not that difficult, just takes time and balls. :D

once ifixit posts breakdowns on the new macbooks, its purple apple logo time for me! (favorite color)

yea, that is what my other question was too, if the even would do it... but i think i like the white apple better, but just to be different it looked cool

That does look good, nice mod. Wish somebody made a simple sticker so there was no warranty void.

Stickers are tacky. Ebay sells them. It's not that hard to do. I can help if anyone is interested (for a small fee).

That looks so badass, I've been really wanting to do this mod on my MBP.

Has anyone done one recently on a "classic" MBP? It didn't look amazingly difficult from the video, but the idea of prying apart the screen with a credit card is what's holding me back.

I might have to go for it anyway.

I have an early 08 MBP and I'm thinking about doing something like this. It won't be anytime soon, I just wanted to see if someone had done it. I see now that it can be done.

It's not that hard to do. Just takes some time.

Can not be done on new aluminum MB/MBP/MBA. The LCD is like paper and it's glued to the lid and will break.

Thanks for your pics and input, DjAmTraX. They were the reason I decided to purchase the classic apple logo from icolors.ca. I will post pics when I'm done, not sure how long it will take to come from Canada.

I figure I already have to partially disassemble the thing to put my new hard drive in, I might as well go for the whole shebang and really make it mine.

So I got my icolors film today. I'm trying to install it but I cannot for the life of me get those two screws under the screen off.

I tried a flat head sideways and it's not working.

DJ, do you have any tips to help me get them out? It's all that stands in the way of me and my classic apple logo!

ha,
i see you went back in to move the slide down a little. I guess I wasn't the only one bothered by it. If I had the balls and time and money I would do it, considering my warranty is already up.

It's difficult because it requires you to remove your panel and it's easy to break and lose stuff, but otherwise it's shouldn't be too difficult.

lol most conficting statement ever, "It's difficult......but otherwise it's shouldn't be too difficult" :p Its actually really easy but basically it depends on 2 things.

1) How intelligent you are

2) How much experience you have with taking computers, especially laptops apart.

The hard part was not removing the LCD. It was removing the logo trying not to break the apple leaf, sanding the paint off, and buffing the plastic clear.

I did a search on this topic, but no results.
Has anyone here tried/done this to their MacBook? The site that sells it say it is extremely difficult. MacBook Pro is easier. I like to hear your input if you've attemped this.

I used to work for CompUSA before they closed and I hot this done for my blackbook, andit was pretty awesome, an apple certified tech did it for me though, he pretty much ha to remove the screen and all, but then the results where realnice... Never had problems with it, I believe the warranty was voided, I did it like a week after I bought it new... And just sold it like a month ago to get an Alu MacBook, for which I'm thinking to do it as well I DONT suggest doingbthos yourself unless you have some experienc on dissasembly, but you'll love the end result, catches a lot of attention... I had a red apple:) on that black matte looked awesome!!

Hey guys - thought I'd share my experience with this modding!

About half a year ago I saw the colourware mod and ordered it straight away - here are some snaps from the process:

Overall it was pretty easy, however sanding the white backing off the Apple logo was extremely time-consuming, and the bezel around the screen went back on about 90% fine (calculated risk).

Photos of the finished product:

The highlight of the story is that just about a month ago, I took my MacBook into the GB to fix a crack in the right-hand palm-rest (3rd time!). I covered the Apple logo with a big tacky Aussie-Flag sticker that I got from a tourist-shop accross the road, so that no one would discover the mod unless the display was removed. The Genius also noticed a crack at the bottom of the bezel and offered to fix that too. I said yes and left the MB with them whilst I went up the coast for a week. Upon collection, I have a MacBook with an awesome ColourWare mod intact, and a professionally installed brand-new bezel!

I hope you can see a little bit of Australia Day action in the background! Now off I go join the festivities!
