I really wanted the original apple logo, but, as i've read from other people that have done this, i don't want to be sitting in a coffee shop or something with *that* color scheme showing. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Here's the failed logic that I see and someone has to correct me if I am wrong. The colors aren't actually the pride colors. I thought pride colors had to be in order, not just a collection of said colors. Yes, at first glance it would appear as such, but anyone who is standing there judging should be comfortable with their knowledge in such things that they know that the colors aren't meant to be pride colors but rather colorful. If that makes sense.

All I am saying is that I have an old-school logo on my car and it's been hinted from time to time by passer-byers, but in all truth, I simply cannot seem to care too much about what they think because I know who or what I come home to each day. :)

my question however is if I do this with my powerbook can I undo it so that it is not noticeable that I did it? I have 2 years left of my apple care and I'd hate to f it all up on account of my inability to refrain from such beauty!

I also think these overlays are sweet, especially the original apple logo, but noone would get it and people would think it means something else :(. Damn you gays for stealing the rainbow! ;)

FYI -- the rainblow flag (symbolizing gay pride) was already around for a few years when Apple introduced their rainbow logo (which wasn't their FIRST logo, by the way -- see below). The rainbow logo wasn't a "problem" then and it shouldn't be a "problem" now.

If you really like it, just go with it.

i never knew that anyway guys i think that the raindbow looks cool, not gay! I will be getting it even though some of my freinds think its a load of rubbish. I like the look of it so i will get my iBook and show them up!:D

i think only the younger generations who were not exposed to apples old logo will be confused by the rainbow. I could careless if people think im gay especially if i dont know them. theres no big deal.

this process is totally reversable which is why i did it. I intend to sell it when it comes time to upgrade.

Man, I remember back in elementary school when we had Apple II's and what-not when the logo was still colorful. Ah man, those were good-n-easy days...

I remember the rainbow logo, we had those macs in school till I was 15. :p (16 now)

I wish they'd just come out with an LED mod that you can just change the colors right from an App... or have it changing like the Ambient TV out that'd be sweet. Not for the ambient against a wall but just for it to be changing randomly

Seems pretty damn simple! I read the PDF.. not to much to it. Not sure about the whole foam thing that sounds a little complicated and not to sure what they are talking (hard for me to visualize it)...

So can you put the old foam thing back or is it done with then forever?

guys i am at school and I am 14 now and i remember it, we had them at our last school and my current college! (even though we have the crappy dells! but we have apples at the art schools) the old apple sign does not confuse my 8 year old brother, he thinks its pretty cool and from somewhere he knows that it is the old apple sign:).

Back to the foam. you dont remove it with the powerbook and iBook i believe but with the macbook and the MBP you can not put it back, sorry!

see that's crazy I never ever thought of what you guys were thinking. I thought old apple logo... thats all.. very interesting.

LOL I'm familiar with the rainbow, but if anyone's hanging around people who are dumb-assed enough to see a rainbow Apple on a computer and say "OMG111111!!!!1111 U'R tEh GAYZZ0Rz" then you need better friends. :D

I personally like the solid colors, although I respect the rainbow gangsta'. :)

I'm torn between the solid and the rainbow... oh man...

As far as external application of apple shaped film, spray adhesive in art supply stores would be good way to go (can adjust bond from temporary to permanent depending on how applied). Also, while I haven't seen it in colors, you can buy clear peel-off adhesive backed contact paper, so I imagine colors are available (art supply, teacher supplies, or someplace like Michaels).

Anyone done this on a plain Macbook? I'm just concerned about voiding my warranty by cutting out the white film supplied by Apple.

Surely there's got to be one of these things that can go over the outside, rather than opening up the machine. A perfect-fitting electrostatic sort of colored gel (when I say gel I don't mean hair stuff I mean the material they used to alter light on film sets) that you slip over the logo.

Is that out there?

You might be able to exacto and tack adhesive these, I plan on looking at that option when mine arrives.

that angle you have to unscrew from seems pretty tight. i can see being able to get the screws out, but how hard is it putting them back it?

The screws go pretty much into the hole before the threads even engage. I used a small eyeglass screwdrive (flathead) on an angle and went about 1/2 turn at a time until it was tight. It's tought to find something that fits well, but once you do it goes quick.

i've been wanting to do this mod but am afraid of screwing things up... :(

Same here. It would be a hassle if you had to send it in for repair. Also dont the screws have that blue gunk on them so apple can tell if you have opend your comp? I know the screw inside my battery bay has it. Maybe not on the screen? Anyone know?

I wish the icolours site had more "after" pictures of different colors on the 'books themselves; I'm tempted to get a nice red apple on my iBook, but they don't have a picture of it after installation. The orange looks pretty sweet, though...

The only way to see the blue gunk on the screws is to unscrew them ;)
