Pardon the pointless pontification, but wouldn't it be cool if the Sky Blue color was the exact shade of blue used on the new nanos and shuffles?

That would be an interesting marketing point: "Color Coordinate your MacBook and your iPod!" :)

Well, I got it in today, and installed it. They say that the MacBook has the highest degree of difficulty, and while I haven't played around with the other models, this one wasn't too bad. I just took my time and was careful. The hardest part was cutting away the white area behind the screen. It took about 30 minutes or so for a complete n00b. I could likely do it in half that time now.

I decided that it looked better with the entire white part cut out (yielding a brighter green), but now there is a little bit of "light bleed" barely visible in the night pic. I may go back in sometime and fix it, but it's fine for now.

Sorry for the noisy phone cam pics.

I eventually got my iBook G4 one installed. It is extremly easy. I did it when replacing my screen (two lines across it) and used just coloured paper. Its really nice!:apple:

If you are lazy you can do the stickers.....

Cost a whole 3 bucks .....you can get them on Ebay and the light looks so cool coming thru.....

that one looks really good, i wish they had better images on their listings on ebay.

How do you remove the top of the MBP? I would really like to do this, but i am worried about damaging something and voiding my apple care/warranty.

Is it really as easy as people say it is?

I got my green/blue/red plastic today and just wanted someones advice from someone who has installed these on a MBP.

The step i am most unclear about is removing the plastic that is already attached by the foam. Do you remove this completely or only partly? Also, how does the new plastic stay in place when the lid is vertical?

I just peeled it back enough to slip the gel in there. I cut my gel to a tiny bit smaller than the plastic so the foam would stick back to the casing. once the lid is back on the back of the lcd will press up against the foam so it will stay on.

Cheers. Did you notice the brightness of the logo affected? i.e. was it noticeably duller after the extra insert was in?

Ohh, one more quick question. Is it possible to change the brightness of the logo independently? Or is it just adjustable through the screen brightness?

So im trying to get the top case off my MBP ... it seems to be stuck fast. I have removed the two screws in the bottom corners, and am trying to separate the top case from the front bit. It is really hard. I have no idea how hard it should be, but i don't want to break anything. Can anyone help me/provide me with some reassurance?

cheers

Yeah, obviously the brightness will be less, especially if the gel is pretty dark. It is not possible to independently change the brightness; the light comes from the lcd backlight, which is what you actually change when you adjust the brightness.

It's pretty tough. I pulled the corners (near the screws) back with my fingers as much as i could, to expose a little gap between the sections. i then slipped in a small flathead screwdriver and rotated it 90 degrees to literally separate the sections. take care not to scratch the casing, but its better to start near the screws because if you do scratch it you'll never see it. :) Then slowly work your way up one side to the top, then do the other side and the middle-bottom, then the top (near isight) should snap off pretty easily. Once you get the first few clasps and the bottom-middle the rest should be easier. Good luck...

This is slightly unrelated but I went to replace an lcd in a macbook because my friend cracked it and it boots up perfectly but I can't get the keyboard to lay flat right near the hinges. (This means that I cannot screw the 2 screws on the back nearest the hinges because the hole doesn't line up) It looks like the metal curved piece on the underside of keyboard that sits on top of the hinge isn't sitting right. Did anyone else have issues like this and how did you fix it? Thanks a lot for your help!

did the poison powerbook mod using that clear coloured plastic adhesive book covering.worked like a treat.

I've been wanting to do this ever since I got my SR MBP, & since it was outa Applecare in about July this year I decided now was a good time. I just hacked up a clear green plastic folder & taped it to the inside of the casing. I wanted to make it orange but I couldn't find any orange folders at the shop so bought green.

I kinda damaged my casing a bit in the process of removing the lid, & it took me more than half an hour- but I think it's worth it! :D
