PS! Why is this in the Community forum and not Web Design?
It's actually in Site and Forum Feedback now, based on the original question, even though the answer had to do with HTML in general.

The Unicode code for the Apple symbol is 63743 (the dollar and cents number in my post - get it? :) ), so if you type  in your post, it'll come out as a ?.

This will work if you then click the Submit Reply button. However, if you click the Preview Post button, the  will turn into an ? symbol in the Preview display, and you must then change the ? back into  before you click Submit Reply, or it will come out as a question mark.

I had to do this a few times myself while previewing this post to make sure it came out right!

You can find the codes for this and other characters, such as ? or ?, in The HTML Document Character Set.

Wow. That has got to be the best and most thorough explanation I've ever heard on these forums. I condemn you.

Edit: I meant commend. Not condemn. That's my Bushism for the ... century.

WTF is guest?
Another question I can help with!

"Guest" membership means someone whose registration was never completed, or whose membership was removed but the member was not banned. In this particular case, it applies to a member who would not be further participating in the forums and therefore asked us for the change. It is used to ensure that the posts remain and the member is not left with a stigma, even though their membership is no longer active.

In general, "guesting" might be used if a member wanted to disable a membership because it was shared (say by a husband and wife) who would no longer be sharing it or wanted to replace it with personal memberships, if a member somehow ended up with two memberships in error, if a member signed a nondisclosure agreement with their employer that required them not to participate in these forums, or for other personal reasons.

You may find "Guest" memberships in very old archive posts too, since members could post at MacRumors without joining in the days of the dinosaurs.

I'm in Firefox, and I'm seeing nothing but question marks in every single post here so far...?

Everything shows up fine for me (using FireFox 1.0.4 on Mac OSX 10.3.9). Not sure what the issues might be for you.

Copy/Paste even works which is somewhat surprising.

Edit: Copy/Paste of the special characters I mean....like the image above...copy/pasted fine.

Maybe it is a FireFox/PC issue, who knows. I am having zero problems on FireFox and Mac....of course this is probably more fun than anything else so unless you have a requirement for these symbols its probably not a huge deal. Things like this would keep me up at night, but thats me.
"Why do their computers work and mine doesn't? What could I change/download/alter/adapt to make it work? etc etc etc snore....."
