They are within the bounds of the current law, Apple violated their patent and has been suing to reduce the royalty fee and keeps on losing... it’s the cost of breaking the law, suck it up, like it or not.
Maybe instead I’d spending more money to fight this in the courts, go spend that money to work on changing the current law (related to patents) ... you’ll do yourself a favor in the long run...

Tell me about it, somehow they own medicine formulas that save human lives. Thats seems to be ok with the law.

Personally, any one who puts the effort and risk the money into making something should be rewarded for it but the red line here is reasonable reward. Selling me a medication for $3 is different than giving me a $4000 pill because you own the patents.
Notice that you used an analogy to a well-deserved medicine patent instead of talking about the actual patent in this case.

There are very few novel ideas in software nowadays, and the novel ones are usually pure math like encryption algorithms. Apple has the talent to build a video chat app without stealing patented ideas, and I highly doubt they found and copied this. An unproven technology from a company that makes 100% of its income from lawsuits. Usually the entire value of software is in development and execution, mostly the latter. Even university CS researchers build useful proofs of concept.

There is nothing illegal about being a patent troll. Only your feelings got hurt.
Who said it was illegal? Who said my feelings are hurt? I have no skin in the game. You do know it’s possible to be somewhere between not caring and being outraged, right? I can think they’re scumbags without exerting too much energy.

I like apple products, but I can't feel too badly about them in this case seeing how they, themselves, basically stole the Apple Watch technology from a small company

Yeah there’s a reason every single one of these cases are in south eastern Texas. Because it wouldn’t fly anywhere else in the country.

What's special about SE Texas? Isn't that Houston?

No. Tyler, Texarkana, Marshall, etc. Juries have a reputation of big damages awards, and the rules followed by the courts are alleged to be favorable to patentees. At least that’s what some people believe.

So... VirnetX invented something and patented it. Then they defended their patents in court. Apple stole their idea, used it to make money and got caught. It's just amusing to see AAPL shareholders here losing their temper.
VirnetX don't invent anything. When you look at their history and roadmap - there can be seen real clear that they are patent trolls and nothing els. Look at their home page and what they do activity, their location and strange appearance and a complex schematics on security found by others and not related to Virnetx as they stated Virnetx on media just to fill up a history but in real life they do nothing.

I founded all VirnetX data and saved all their history. in 2007., after one month of first iPhone anouncment they started a website. This company have investors who put their money in, to make more money on patent trolling and in one year of activity become, as they stated, leading security comapany?

In February of 2007, VirnetX filed suit against Microsoft (News - Alert) alleging patent infringement. About a year later, Microsoft filed a Motion to Dismiss, and, in June 2008, the court denied the Motion.
They sued Microsoft many times.

And more and more... They do physically nothing in security, but just brainstorming a patents and then make money on suing rich companies.

Started website in 2007. and in the same year they started to suing big companies Microfot and later Apple - those who has money.
Exelent bussines plan!
I think this company needs for investigation from police. And again - we can see really clear, that in this point there are some hole in law to avoid such trolling companies.
Court are not a tech guy, they see a well written patents/documents but in real life scenario are a bit different. Is they infringe law? No! Is they infringe ethics - yes! Is it criminal? I think - it is!

And as we see from history of Apple, Apple always buy patent's or companies who has a dedicated technology. Why Apple and Microsoft not buying technologies from VirnetX? Because they do not have them! Logic? Logic!

If you are not actually using a patent for a product, you shouldn’t be paid for the patent.

That statement and belief is completely ridiculous. So, according to you (and others, it seems), intellectual property must manifest itself in actual tangible products, or else other companies can just appropriate it for themselves to profit off of. Good grief.

Well in this case then let’s have a field day and take as many of Apple‘s patents that we want which are not currently incorporated in a product they’re offering.

Jeez you guys are rough on this company. If some other business was infringing on an apple patent would you still think apple isn't owed that money. Like others have said, that's the law suck it up and pay it. Like it or not apple is gonna have to pay it.

You hit it right on the button. Apple should not be talking about patent trolls. After all, did it not patent swiping your phone to open it and sued others for using similar action?

The issue with the patient system today is, that it doesn’t allow for two or more people/groups to come up with the same answer for same question/problem. We have millions of hardware and software engineers, you can’t tell me that everyone of them is going to solve a similar problem a different way.

How is that a “patent troll?” By definition a patent troll does not practice its own invention.
