Apple's trillion dollar status is at a lower per share price now because of the buyback. So, at ~$200 per share it got back up to the trillion dollar rank again.

They want to buy their shares on the cheap, hence their announcement of no more sales numbers.

Nope. Apple is clearly shifting focus and they don’t want their iPhone sales to be the only reason folks have for investing. Thus they stopped hawking the sales numbers as the end all and be all.

Now as for analysts etc. yeah they want to buy cheap so they will do everything they can to paint the decision in bad light so that the value drops especially before there might be articles about long lines, or an earnings call that still has the dollar amounts earned just not perhaps per item. And then there’s the election tomorrow. it’s going to make a difference if that election swings the Congressional vote over to the Democrats since they could vote to remove the trade issues with China (which could affect all tech companies) etc. some folks might be so scared that it won’t and the trade will stay poor that they decided to get out while they could. Google and several other tech related companies are down as well

Disclosing unit sales is important to investors. Apple is welcome to explain why those figures are no longer "relevant," but investors aren't required to view things the way Apple prefers. I think the 10% correction on that news sounds about right (and I say that without regard for reports of weak Xr sales).

If there’s not a law requiring it then the choice is simple, Apple discloses what they want and if an investor has an issue with something not being revealed, he or she is welcome to sell their stocks.

The stock market is in a tough spot. All signs point another recession. Apple on the other hand needs iPhone sales. Mac n Ipad cant carry them. That said, I bet Apple and the stock market over the next year or 2 drop more.

Apple's financial chief Luca Maestri said unit sales are "not particularly relevant for our company at this point," as they are "not necessarily representative of the underlying strength of our business." He added that Apple may provide qualitative commentary related to unit sales if the info is valuable to investors.

Lol. "We'll tell you if it's good news."

Maybe they should innovate..... modular Mac Pro.... or iMac Pro with a detached Monitor..... OEM a decent and fairly price monitor so we can industrial design our desks.....

A company's whose Desktop Flagship Computer that looks like an office trash can and is 5 years old tech - does not deserve the Trillion $$$ feather in the cap.

LOL. That’s the most hilarious thing I’ve read in weeks. The only way ‘greedy apple’ is going to end is if everyone stops buying their products.
It only takes about the 1/2 the people to stop buying iPhones. All their other products combined couldnt keep them afloat

Because if it were relevant their competitors like Samsung, Google, Microsoft and others who have not provided this information for years, would be expected to report it. They stopped years ago, and there was not a word.

MS is mostly services and software. Along with Google. Apple is all about hardware.

People stop buying iphones, it will hit their profits hard.

I think that if you have nothing to hide, you can always show the unit sales. I don't think you can find an argument to prove it's better not to report the unit sales.

Obviously it's because Apple is selling a lot more older devices (iPhone 7, 6s in last year) than the new ones, because of the price. When the iPhone 7 came out, I have started to see them a lot in public 2-3 months after the launch. But iPhone X? Saw just bunch of people with iPhone X (since the launch).

Looking at the history when it drops this much it usually bounces pretty quickly. But the whole market seems down lately, and with uncertaintly from the growing trade war with China, who knows what might happen.
