Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to take into consideration the price of the drive being removed. So if for example it comes with a 256 GB SSD that cost 100. You're no longer getting that 256 GB SSD which was included in the MacBook price. So the cost of the upgrade is 580.In Canada, the 1TB costs around $480. That's not a bad price, considering it's Apple ( take that as either positive or negative).
Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 1TB Internal SSD as reference ( not considering any performance differences ):

People who do work? Creative types with a lot of media?Cool. Don't lower the price on the sizes people actually care about! Who the F needs more than 1TB of SSD storage? Let alone, more than 256? Everything can be saved online.

Not everyone uses their MacBook Pro exclusively as a social networking and media consumption machine.

I'm using about 900 GB in my 2011 MacBook Pro, mostly digital photos, so upgrade prices to a current model are absolutely terrifying for me.Agreed. I have a 2TB SSD in my MacBook Pro - I have 100s of GB of scanned family photos and my own digital photos as well as home videos that I like to be able to access on the fly - I’m often using them for projects and restoring/repairing the old photos. As much as I love having my entire iCloud Photo Library on my iPhone, it’s annoying having to wait for photos and videos to download, its great being able to launch photos and browse any photo I want.
Good point! Sadly :-(
With RAM, and storage , it used to be cheaper to buy the model without upgrades and uograde yourself. That was, of course, when Apple made this possible before everything was soldered.

And I want all my data there with me, even when I do not have the access to the Internet for whatever the reason.I don't want my sample libraries to be loaded from the cloud![]()

It was overpriced, now it is a little bit less overpriced.
or like some of us, Cannot legally put our data on the cloud.Me too. I just want things to work. I don’t want to wait for things to download from the cloud. It is annoying and frustrating.
Due to this pricing change now, I'm assuming the MacBook Pros aren't going to be updated too?

Sure, that's great if the internet is available anywhere you go, at suitable speeds.
Im starting to think we are about to get a MBP.. this week.
Apple knows intel is rather flaky with their processor releases and they need a fix. I think we could see just a redesign coming very very very soon with no new specs. Just a design that can handle the thermals and has a new display.

The base 15" model used to be around $1800 before they introduced the retina.
Because they aren't selling at these absurd prices? If there was going to be an update, why change prices on the existing MBPs?
