Found a water damaged, SSD ripped off Apple M1 Max A2485 off eBay for cheap. Unfortunately, the board was not repairable due to the layers below touchpad connector being shorted. Too many components had to be removed to have all the shorts gone. Also ~60% of the SSD NAND pads were ripped off from the board due to forceful NAND removal (data protection).
Found an iCloud locked A2485 M1 Max board on AliExpress and transferred all necessary components from the damaged one to the locked one which already had 1TB of NAND storage.
I'm thrilled that the transplant is a 100% success on the first try.
One thing I expected and happened was that the 5 power management chips under the SoC on the other side of the board weeped the solder through the underfil while shorting some power rails for the SoC so had to remove all of them, reball and reinstall. This work is similar to the SSD NAND upgrade you would normally do on these boards.
