Ha, pathetic. Because of Apple's manufacturing ties within China they immediately donate. Had an identical earthquake hit neighboring countries who don't produce any of their products such as Mongolia and Afghanistan, Apple wouldn't provide any support.

We gave 1.6 million to help out with the earthquake... and then spent $16.0 million telling people about it.

Apple donated $2.5M to the Red Cross after hurricane Sandy. What manufacturing ties do they have to New York and New Jersey?

----------

Its funny how they think they can make up rules about what qualifies as good and honorable donation without them doing the same thing

I guess people think being cynical makes them look cool. God forbid they say something positive about Cook/Apple because then someone might refer to them as a fanboy or kool-aid drinker.

My friend, please mind your own business. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Why are you so offended? Do you have some sort of personal affection towards Apple?

I apologize if I've hurt your feelings, but please understand I never asked for your input. I guess people like you think being non-cynical makes them look cool as well.

Give money, but move manufacturing jobs back to America.

Are you willing to work for $2 a day? Or, perhaps you are willing to pay twice as much for your electronic devices?

It's not pathetic. It's ensuring the business can meet continuing needs of their customers. Are you willing to forgo getting a new iPhone because Apple doesn't adequately and properly support its suppliers? I'm not.

This would have never happened if Steve was still alive.

And I'm trying to be funny and serious at the same time. Apple gets lots of criticisms for things being different under Tim than Steve.

This is an area where I'm glad they are acting different. Steve had no interest in charitable actions on Apple's part. While he was brilliant, I think the current leadership has a lot more heart than Steve did.

Steve's primary focus was on providing the best product for his customers. Tim is also focused on supporting his suppliers. Has nothing to do with good-will or heart. It has everything to do with growing the business, which is what it should be. Businesses have one prime objective, grow and prosper. It's up to us individuals to provide the good-will and heart. How much have you personally anomalously donated this year?

Why would someone want to work in the USA for less than a tenth what people make in China?

I don't know what Apple would do, but that makes absolute sense.

So what? It's their money, they can donate to whom ever they like.

Good for Apple for being a bigger personality than the China government. Their own government probably care less about the people than Apple.

And before anyone make a smart ass remark about how 1.6 million is just a drop in Apple bucket, consider how much are you donating.

As a percentage of my net annual income, I would have to donate $2.67 to be as generous as Apple.

That's beside the point. The fact that you think they "donated" is mind boggling. Do you honestly think this was a humanitarian act from Apples end? Absolutely not. They're essentially paying $1.6 million to increase global sales, not because they care about those affected by the earth quake.

This should be a warning to Apple: Don't build your offices in California, there are major earthquakes...and one could completely wipe you out!

Why? It makes no sense to lose money just to have Americans make the products and put little American flags on the boxes. Patriotism doesn't make a profit.

sure it does......and it keeps your country strong and free......
Whats wrong with patriotism?

Good on Apple, we had an earthquake here in NZ a few years ago, money is required to get back on your feet.
Donations get chewed up quickly, it all helps.
I'm guessing 1.6 mil will go a little further in China than it would here.
I hope no corrupt officials and inbetweeners get thier filthy mits on any of it.

I'm usually not the person to pat Apple on the back, but 1.6 mil, regardless of the wealth Apple have amassed, is nothing to sneeze at.
To all the cynics, show us your donation. How much of your money did you give?

I buy Apple products......so that 160 BILLION in cash reserves....well some came from me! :)

Of course this is motivated by profit! I didn't hear Apple made any donations to Bosnia and Serbia after the recent floods, although they need help more than China... why? Small countries with no Apple Stores...

Don't be naive... Tom Cook cares about China as I care about your comments that will come after my post...

If I recall there not many apple employees in this region and the money is going towards helping people who are affected that are apart of the Apple family including employees who friends and family may be affected.
