One other thought, with them ending profile enrollment, maybe they were seeing that there was friction with people having to sign in with Apple Ids enrolled in paid Development as surely there are business environments where people don't want to share Apple Ids for this, etc.

Is there a way to completely un-enroll from the developer beta program to stop it from appearing under beta updates on the software update device settings?

I saw this also. Maybe it's the final slap from Apple to tell us Intel Inside(tm) is a misnomer now.
I was able to download the installer from MrMacintosh and install it that way without any issues. Not sure why the Intel installer is missing. Definitely kind of odd.

Yeah seems odd. I have a free developer account but I don't get it. I've tried restarting a few times still nothing.
I’ve already found some games fail to login using mobile network immediately after installing iOS 17 beta 1. Maybe you should reconsider.

This is just money grubbing Apple at it again. We all know the reason why they took down those sites and stopped distributing profiles was to force people to buy the $99 membership! And now… and now…

Ummm…

AND NOW, see… ahhhh… they make the developer beta free BUT, you have to have a MAC to run it on! They made it free to FORCE people to buy Macs to run it. I hope no one is fooled by this blatant cash grab.

I can see the Dev options now as well. USA. I used to also jump on the PB’s but I have not for the last 2 cycles.

Thank you Apple. You crazy people, enjoy 🥳

What do people here think of this article?

Edit: Specifically, I'm concerned about the suggestion that this is an accident, and that people who do this to their devices could be stuck on Developer Beta 1 without being able to use later Developer Betas until the stable releases in September/October. If true, this MacRumors article is leading people into making a huge mistake.

Nice one, they can now drop all Developer/Public beta separation and just call it a beta then. Should also be less confusing with beta numbers now, so we will have B1, B2, etc. instead of DB2/PB1 combos.

Hold on! Something does not add up. Did not Apple say during the WWDC that the PB will come in July? 🤔

How are they rolling this out? At the moment I am only getting the iOS 16 public beta.

If you have already enrolled into Beta program before (even as a public beta tester), go to Settings > Software Update > Beta Update and tick “iOS/iPadOS 17 Developer Beta”:

It's still developer beta but now available with the free dev account instead of a paid membership. It's still not recommended for anyone to install.

I do not have any developer account (free or paid), I was only enrolled into Public beta program and can still get the Developer beta now.

I don't really know if that toggle is working properly or not. It's been buggy since before iOS 17 came out, with developers not getting beta access, public beta users seeing dev beta etc.

This is my question too, I have public betas and developer betas showing. Public betas I can unenroll from public betas, but can’t see anywhere to unenroll for the developer beta. I could see iOS 16 developer betas when I didn’t have a paid developer account, logged it with support to see how it could be removed but got no where with support.

You can set the Beta updates to OFF in Settings > Software Update or choose a specific beta channel you like (iOS 16 or iOS 17).

When you go to general, software updates, click where it says you have the iOS16 beta, there should be a drop down to choose ios17. Make sure you registered your developer account.

You do not need a registered developer account to see iOS 17 betas. It is possible that you need to be a member of Apple’s beta program, however, as I was only registered with them as a public beta tester 3-4 years ago.

So, why are WE developers paying $100/year when the average joe-smow can get the betas for free? Apple’s going into dangerous territory here.
The free development is also one of the things Apple will have to offer in the EU per Digital Market Act.
Maybe offering the beta worldwide is easier and also adds more testers.

Who doesn’t want unpaid voluntary testers?

So when I go enrol in the Developer app it states it is £78. Am I missing something as I thought it was free?

Just stop the process when you’re at the final step « purchase », it will stay on pending status but iOS 17 should appear if you check the update menu… worked for me
