Pretty amazing system--that smoothly-moving live text reflow around the surfboard especially. Makes me want Apple to build an HTML5 Flash replacement!

I was able to log on yesterday, now I'm receiving a server error message. Anyone else?

I like how apple didn't bother to update anything in a 4 year old piece of software. I guess it doesn't make them any money :p

They actually announced that new versions of iWork for both OSX and iOS is coming in the fall.

Huh? It's been out for days! No graphs in Numbers though, anyone else notice that?

Regarding vs Office - personally I'd rather use Pages than Word and Keynote than PowerPoint, but Numbers isn't as powerful as Excel and power is the point of spreadsheets. I have bo idea why Numbers is page based, that screams “we don't get spreadsheets” to me.

For the love of god, please fix that website and update it from the 1990's look. So un-Apple looking. Start stealing Google designers Apple!

I'm sorry, what? iCloud.com was just introduced in 2011 and incorporated the icons, look, and feel of the native iOS apps, as well as the linen background that was used across iOS and OS X at the time. In what way is that "un-Apple looking"? I'll grant that the site's performance is sometimes slow, but the interfaces are actually quite beautiful and push the limits of creating a native app feel in the web browser. Apple has acquired several HTML5 web design start ups, and it shows in the advanced functionality of the new iWork web apps.

Messages

The biggest Mac app I miss while I'm at work is iMessage. I wish they would add that to iCloud!!

What can Office do that iWork can't? Our company gave up Office several years ago and we don't miss it. We work for a lot of tech companies, sharing files with them. No issues at all.

Your company is in the minority. Excel in particular is the standard for most of the world which feeds into so many other business applications.

Making apps web based for computers is another area where Apple is losing the war to Google.

You can use googles apps anywhere on any platform thanks to being web based.

AAAAAND I can't login.

My developer Apple ID differs from my personal one and my username has a space in it.

The iCloud login won't allow me to enter a space.

I don't know if I wasn't paying attention or not, but I presume they're not making these apps free to everyone? Especially with how much their counterparts actually cost. How are they managing this?

They are probably adding it in as part of their offerings since they make their money on something besides advertising.

Nothing of any importance, except give MS a chance to re-sell their product, and fix issues that were caused by 2007…

I wish Apple would offer Preview in iCloud. More and more of the work that people do these days is PDF based.

I know many people slept through the iWorks for iCloud portion of the keynote, but I was very excited to see Apple introduce cloud based productivity.

Being able to work from any device and have your work follow you is a blessing for one, and the majority of the time all I need is a light productivity suite, not full blown MS Office. The savings could go to a myriad of other things...like new iPhones or iPads...

Totally agree. I've wanted Apple to do this ever since Google Docs came out. I'm now using a Mac at my office, but for the longest time, I was using a PC and was dying for a way to access and edit my iWork docs. Collaboration will make this even stronger. PC compatibility is a must if iWork is to gain any traction in the enterprise. I'll be interested to see what approach they take with the new native version of iWork they promised for later this year. Given all the enterprise features they've added to iOS and OS X, I wouldn't be surprised if the new iWork makes a major push for business use.

That's not true. Maybe you need a paid developer account but I certainly don't own any of those apps and I have access to them.

What's odd, I was able to log in a few days ago with full access, now I'm receiving login errors and the report log isn't giving much detail as to why.

I like this move by Apple! Surprising and exciting. I much prefer Apple's iWork suite compared to Google Docs. Google Docs feel so... webby. These look more like proper apps and I was really impressed by the ease of use.

I also like how this becomes an easy way of getting Microsoft Office documents ranging from Word to Powerpoint to the web, still editable too. Just import them into iWork and save the results to iCloud and you're done. No need to sign up for Office 365 and perhaps a bigger blow against Microsoft than Google.

That I can now seamlessly use iWork docs for presentation even at work on any enterprise-style Windows laptop is just great and this will make me use even the non-web version more. It's simply more worth it than before.

I'd expect the cloud versions of the iWork apps to be subsets of the desktop app functionality, just as the iOS versions are today.

I hope you're wrong. These subset differences are what hurts the iCloud sync usage. I hate making a spreadsheet on my Mac, save it to iCloud, then try using in on iOS, then getting hit with formatting errors. Then save changes, go back to my Mac, and find more formatting errors and to find several display options have been removed.

I should be able to create a document on my iMac and save to iCloud, revise it on my iPhone while in the car. Then finalize it on my Macbook. All this with zero formatting errors and no lose to formatting options. And I would expect the same for the web versions.

I just made a grandmother test and the result is clear,

grandmother can use pages and numbers at icloud, had big problems with google docs.

From my test view,
google docs sucks in layouting compared to pages.
No not true, google docs feels like notepad in comparision

Cool. Now add iMessage to it, make it sync your entire Documents folder (you know, since it has more than just iWork stuff in it), make it sync your iWeb sites, and make it work with Snow Leopard. iCloud is already off to a great start.

Can anyone provide details with how feature rich these are compared to ios and mac apps?

They are nearly the same as the ipad apps. Some stuff is better, some stuff says feature not implemented now.

from now on i will not longer use google docs, importing from word was just perfect, even with complex Layouts we had.

Now i have finally a cloud synched everywhere office package i can use.
On windows or other machines i can use iwork in the browser.
I can use iwork on my private mac
and i can use it on the go with limited connectivity on my ipad.

As far as you dont need complex excel macros (which 90% of people dont need) it is perfect enough. And especially better than google docs because you can work offline

I have used both (iWork and Office 2010) and iWork is way, way behind on what Office 2010 offers in terms of functionality. They will need to play catch up big time if they want to be an alternative at all ...

Playing catch up ... that seems to become the dominant theme with Apple ... too bad.

I use iWork on a regular basis (I do dozens of papers and presentations for school each year, plus I sometimes use Numbers for a variety of things.) Keynote is rock solid - there's absolutely no need for PowerPoint for anyone. Numbers, I understand its limitations, but I personally never need Excel. Pages is the only app from the suite that I ever find lacking. Sometimes when I'm writing long documents with complicated page numbering, table of contents, figures, etc, and annotating everything, I find it necessary to resort to Word.

The biggest things Apple needs to add are mixed graphs and equation editors. I'd also really like it if they could improve the drawing tools... (IE, make it possible to easily draw shapes with holes.)
