TouchID would be nice but Logitech MX Keys FTW! Wireless, backlit, USB-C charge and pairs to 3 devices via BT or Unifying receiver.
I was debating buying a wireless keyboard with number pad from Apple since I prefer proprietary peripherals. But I realized that it wouldn't do anything better than my current iMac keyboard, $149 for a number pad isn't worth it. As a user of the MX Master Pro I decided to pick up the MX Keys for Mac and haven't looked back. Not even owned for a month and love it!

Especially the ability to map the Eject key to anything, why on earth does the eject key still exist!

Is there any alternative for this? an external third party Touch ID sensor?
I'm wondering whether it would be possible to extract the relevant TouchID bits and transplant them into a macro pad or stand-alone case for use with a goo... err, well.. a keyboard without Apple's name on it.

Not to sidetrack this conversation, but what do you love about the Mx? And does that chunky thing that props up the back (shown in this pic) to tilt the keyboard come with it? (I'm still pissed at Apple for charging more for Space Gray before.)

... and I remember when gasoline was 75 cents a gallon and the cabletv bill was $40/month.

Inflation. Perhaps you've heard of it?
Inflation is a factor. A very small factor.

Nuance. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Things cost what produces the most profit, and that's a complex equation.

You did not ask me but I have used the MX Keys and MX Master mouse for years. It just simply feels amazing to type on the MX keyboard. Backlit and rechargeable via USB-C, and all for $99. Solid, quality product, absolutely love it.

Price discussions on macrumors are always comedy gold. So many experts who know exactly what products should cost. And all the righteous anger, too. 😂
It's not exactly rocket science to work it out is it though?

The Logitech MX Keys keyboard is one of the best 3rd party keyboards on the market. It has a great feel, has a back-light, and is fully programmable. You can pick one of these up for 79eur (94USD).

The touch ID sensor is a mass-produced item that most likely costs cents to build and given their R&D costs are almost certainly covered by now, the rest of the keyboard probably costs about $10 tops to build. We're also all joking about the cables, but the reality is they probably cost about 0.50USD per cable.

What you are paying for is the marketing, (new) R&D, distribution, licensing, and profit margin which I reckon on this works out at about 60%.

We are suckers. (Me included).
