considering these things are always online and being attacked, I'm not sure holding back from updates and skipping security fixes is a viable strategy.
Especially since it’s a zero day AND remote attack. Several of those daily things folks are USED to doing due to the security of the device are the things that are now insecure. Hopefully, they can remember not to do those things and break those habits before they become one of those affected.

So glad that I can use Maps on my 3GS without ads to worry about! (and yes, Maps still works! Also, why did everyone go after Forstall over Maps? Then and now, it worked fine! I never had issues with Maps on iOS 6--it was my first experience navigating with it!)
Because he wouldn’t own it. 🙂 Even if he agreed and thought it was fine, it was his job to show he can be a leader when other folks have issue with what you have control over.

Not wanting to take responsibility for that spoke volumes. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s one of the reasons he wasn’t hired for any tech jobs after then. If a company’s going to pay the big bucks for a leader, they’re going to expect them to do what leaders do.

We are the product.
And you’re paying to be it… as you have paid for the Apple devices as well.

Apple boasting about their revenue coming from Apple services, is just Apple boasting they can squeeze as much $$$ from subscriptions from their already paying hardware customers.
No one is going to pay for iCloud, or  TV, Fitness etc. if they don’t already own an Apple device.

Now, adding adds to Apple maps is worse: only people how have already paid for their iPhone use Apple maps.

Didn't another report said Tim Cook forced the release of Maps in that state despite Forstall's objections?

This is so pathetic by Apple lol. If they were hurting for money I could see this making sense. This simply just cements my position with using Google Maps. Far superior anyways.
Google Maps is indeed far superior. It’s shameful that Apple is so far behind with all their financial and technological capabilities.

Google forced the release of Maps. Apple wasn’t going to get the terms they needed from Google. So, it was make or break. Probably one of those moments where your back is against the wall, you have to make hard decisions then stand behind those. It shows how strong you are as a leader when dealt a challenging hand. Forstall folded.

Apple still had one more year before the agreement ended back then

Disappointing to see ads. Think it will come soon and in any case will happen with iOS 27. An ad free user experience is the best.

I suppose Google’s assumption is that anyone that can open the door is the owner?
When you give information about you and your company, they can crosscheck the information and verify. I don’t know how it works in other countries, but in Sweden it is very easy as all information is available to anyone. Probably they trust the system here.

So now there will be only downsides with using Apple Maps (old data and poor route planning) compared to Google Maps.

Let’s hope the EU forces Apple to open system wide integration to other map applications so I can get rid of Apple Maps completely. Maybe competition will force Apple to actually start making Maps a good option.

I do not hope that the ad is projected on my cars headup display 😅
whats the point of showing ads in maps while driving? Is that even allowed (in the EU)?

I like Apple Maps & have mostly got used to it's quirks - the clean interface whilst driving on iPhone in landscape format is nice (I don't have CarPlay).

I didn't read all 7-pages, but it seems an unpopular suggestion. I've always paid a premium for Apple on the understanding that if you've not paid for it then you are the product ... I do not want ads or 'promoted listings' in Apple Maps.
