I don't see any ads in my Google maps when using it. Don't know what one you are talking about. To be fair, what alternative? The only one I know of also has ads.

Not even close my friend, not even close. We're hitting peak Ens*ttification
with Google maps info they will mail a piece of mail with a code to the address, so only someone who can access that piece of mail can enter the business map information.I suppose Google’s assumption is that anyone that can open the door is the owner?
I’m still working on folding mine closed correctly. I am not a foldable phone candidate I can tell you that.Oh man. I would love to see certain generations try to read an actual map...
Google is at least 10 years ahead of Apple in acquiring location data. Apple Maps appeared in what, iOS 8? Google was there from iPhoneOS 1.0 and already was providing directions before that.Google Maps is indeed far superior. It’s shameful that Apple is so far behind with all their financial and technological capabilities.
If one Ad in suggested places is as bad as it gets for Ads in Maps then I think I'll be okay.
With the second beta of iOS 26.5, Apple is continuing to prepare for ads in the Apple Maps app. There's a new splash screen in the app that says it will display ads based on approximate location, current search terms, or a view of the map when searching. Ads will also be shown in the "Suggested Places" section that was added in the first beta.

Apple says that advertising information is not linked to an Apple Account to preserve user privacy, so ads viewed and interacted with will not be associated with an Apple Account. Data is not collected or stored by Apple and not shared with third parties, according to Apple.
Signs of ads in the Maps app were spotted in the first beta, but iOS 26.5 testers could start seeing ads with the second beta. It's not yet clear if Apple has just implemented the splash screen, or if ads are going to begin showing up in the near future.

Apple announced plans to introduce ads for the Maps app back in March, with ads set to roll out to the public "this summer." Apple plans to include ads in the Maps app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac in the United States and Canada.
Ads in Apple Maps will have an "Ad" label, much like ads in the App Store.

Ohhh, wait until the contract is up so that they DON’T have a solution in place to start working on it. That DOES sound like an idea that Forstall would have had. 🙂Apple still had one more year before the agreement ended back then
That’s already done. Folks that want to be personally identified and tracked by any number of map services in the EU are free to use those. Maps will never be a good option in THOSE countries because getting used more means they’d face regulations they’re not facing now. The EU regulators say, “Continue to not be successful and we won’t regulate you. Don’t you DARE become widely used!”So now there will be only downsides with using Apple Maps (old data and poor route planning) compared to Google Maps.
Let’s hope the EU forces Apple to open system wide integration to other map applications so I can get rid of Apple Maps completely. Maybe competition will force Apple to actually start making Maps a good option.
This is a stupid thing for Apple to do. They always scream privacy then open up there software to ads. wtf. Privacy be damned. $$$ for the win. Apples only care in the world. This is strictly done to soon offer a paid ad free version. Gotta make the money by selling out your customers for bs.Even if you continue to use Apple Maps, you will never see an ad “pop up” because that is not the type of ads they are using.
These are nothing but special highlights within search results, nothing more.
Although the comments on the original article about how it would be a “safety risk” and fear mongering about Apple randomly putting up full 60 second video ads while you are driving down the street was pretty funny.
If you’re searching for something while driving, say a gas station or restaurant, you’ll very likely see an ad as the first result according to the Apple Maps page.I do not hope that the ad is projected on my cars headup display 😅
whats the point of showing ads in maps while driving? Is that even allowed (in the EU)?
Sad 🙁
Why do companies obsess over profits so much. Just be happy with being profitable at all.
******tification…
sure, that's true but if you delete Apple Maps and everyone stops using it it sends a message that we won't tolerate nonsense like this. I'm betting most people won't but it's the same reason I rarely open the App Store and search for anything these days. I usually just click a link from a developers site that opens directly to the download in the App Store. The App Store has become a low rent slop shop that you unfortunately still need to use to download anything.Tbf people can’t really complain about Apple ads and say they will go to Google Maps. Just went to the Google map app (have both downloaded) and they have ads (a lot more). They call it “local vibes (I’m assuming it local generated ads masquerading as randomized places to check out).”
But to be fair, I think Google Maps is a superior maps, with gas prices built in (which we can all use rn) and better 1st person coverage, etc. so I stomach the ads there.
OH, so it didn’t just require “a video showing the street sign and the storefront.” Ok. And, if that information is public in THAT way, then Apple would have been able to cross check it too, you just didn’t want to sign up for Apple Maps. Which is perfectly fine. When you give information about you and your company, they can crosscheck the information and verify. I don’t know how it works in other countries, but in Sweden it is very easy as all information is available to anyone. Probably they trust the system here.

Ok, so it’s not just accepting a video from a random person as a check. That makes sense.with Google maps info they will mail a piece of mail with a code to the address, so only someone who can access that piece of mail can enter the business map information.
Yup! 🙄Do not fear, my fellow worshippers!
An ad-free subscription is coming!!
You just jinxed it. 😂I use Waze with CarPlay and I haven't seen an ad pop up.....yet.
If you press a link to an Apple Maps link it will open in Apple Maps. You’d have to press a Google Maps link for it to open in Google Maps. People can freely use alternate Calendar apps and avoid using the internal one and use either link freely, so I’d think it’s unlikely that they require modifications to the built-in one.No it’s not done, there’s no open API for system wide map applications. If I press a link to a map it will open in Apple Maps by default and the calendar app uses only Apple Maps.
And I don’t believe for a second that Apple has decided to keep Apple Maps this poor just because they want to avoid regulation.
And you’re paying to be it… as you have paid for the Apple devices as well.
Apple boasting about their revenue coming from Apple services, is just Apple boasting they can squeeze as much $$$ from subscriptions from their already paying hardware customers.
No one is going to pay for iCloud, or TV, Fitness etc. if they don’t already own an Apple device.
Now, adding adds to Apple maps is worse: only people how have already paid for their iPhone use Apple maps.
