Wow, the overwhelming people with this problem is positive - nothing worse than a rare unsolvable IT problem.

For me I'm sure the problem started around the time of the recent iCloud outage, I wonder if at has anything to do with it.

In the U.S. here but what impact would that have with loading maps? It should be able to load no matter where in the world you are.

Never know.
In that same vein, I could say that since it works for me, there's no reason it shouldn't work for you.

So just looking for some common factor.

So if it's not country, could be something else. What iOS version? 8.3 or the 8.4 beta?

Watch Maps works for me just fine. So that likely isn't it.

38mm space gray, bought in France and being used in Spain with an iPhone 6 (last iOS)

Maps won't charge, no matter what I do.

Same problem here in Puerto Rico. Maps won't load on a new 42 mm ss apple watch even after reboot and update.

Easy solution which worked for me.

Somebody on the Apple forum had a solution which worked for me and was much easier than all the other things I tried before.

Turned Bluetooth off on the iPhone. Waited 1 minute. Turned Bluetooth back on. Started Maps App on Watch and they loaded.

They recommended to try more than once if it doesn't work the 1st time. As well to disconnect other smart devices (watches) potentially connected via Bluetooth with the Phone.

I am glad that my Maps work now.

Mine just started working and I did nothing other than try going into the app again.

I know of another user who was using the yelp app and it started working.

Hopefully they're pushing out a soft reset of some kind to fix it.

Yep, started working by itself.

wow finally worked no need to wait 1 minute turned it off and on immediately

I have the 42mm SS BCB and have had exactly the same problem since receiving my watch on Friday.
However this afternoon maps have just started working without any input from me. I am guessing because I have been in my home wifi all day ???

Pretty sure Apple have found the issue and fixed it - and coincidentally some people were toggling BT or switching to hybrid or whatever when the fix landed.

Alternatively try this: I went to bed for just under eight hours and that fixed it!!
:)

Rebooting phone + watch and switching bluetooth on/off is working!

First time I've gotten Maps to work on mine!

Didn't do anything. Just woke up (slept with it on) (been 3 days of non-working ownership) and it was working fine. Interesting.

An update: as of this morning, Maps started displaying on my Watch. Almost seems like the bug is a delay in loading map data to the watch. Now they're working consistently.

Basically, I had no map data displayed for the first day and a half that I had the Watch, and now they're good.

this problem was escalated by apple support according to some posters on the apple support forums, I think they found the problem on their end and fixed it.

Started working for no reason for me too about an hour ago.

Funny thing is that when I spoke to apple on the phone they recommended that I return the watch and then wait for a replacement, this after waiting since day one of preorders and only just receiving it on 22nd May! Of course, I declined!

Unbelievable!

apple watch maps

I had the same problem, re paired, rebooted & reset for two days.Nothing worked but by chance happened to check maps on iPad,and found the same blank squares, noticed it was not on wifi connected to wifi maps appeared on iPad as well as watch
