Polls results were what I thought - iOS maps overall is good - but when it doesnt work - thats really bad for that particular user.

so 30% that have problems is ok for a good product? to me that's not good at all. that sucks. sorry but I don't think 30% failure can be said is good. if the phone had that failure rate people would be suing apple.

It's good, there are parts that I much prefer to Google Maps but some things I miss. The vector graphics make it so smooth and snappy, Apple really have the upperhand when it comes to speed. The 3D view is interesting to play with, but that's where one of my issues comes in. 3D without the satellite/hybrid option is basically useless, right? Well that's where one of my issues comes in. The satellite images are SO blurry, they're practically useless. Obviously that's not the case for bigger cities, but even if I do live in a small town, they shouldn't be so blurry. I know that Apple Maps is still new so it'll improve over the years, but it's annoying. I haven't had any issues with accuracy but I haven't used the actual GPS much. I'm pleased with the app and probably won't download Google Maps when it hits the app store but it has a ways to go.

Used it on a trip from Columbus to Cleveland and all around downtown Cleveland with no issues.

Has worked pretty well for the most part for me but had 2 instances where it totally screwed up. Yesterday navigated to a place thr you can SEE when you're driving on the highway but obviously have to get off an exit to get there. Maps told me I had arrived at m destination while I was still on the highway. This is in SE Florida.

Was in NJ a few weeks ago running ios6 GM and took me to an address in Paterson when I was trying to get somewhere in Hawthorne. If you know NE NJ you know that Paterson is the ghetto like a real ghetto and u do not wanna get lost there.

But 90% of the time it does what I need it to do.

See, now, here's someone with the right perspective. There's a problem, and it's irritating, but it's not a huge problem worth freaking out about.

Meanwhile, the mobs assemble with torches and pitchforks because they got lost on the way to 7-11, and their favorite Irish village is obscured by clouds in satellite view.

Do you think Apple would be working as hard to improve maps if they hadn't received a ton of criticism?

Criticism is useful so stop complaining about people complaining!!! It's going to make the product better :)

I like it. Seems like the most overblown story to me. Maybe I've been lucky with where I've used it. Vector is much nicer as is the caching. I even used it when data roaming for turn by turn nav and it used very little data (I bought prepaid international data before I left).

I've used it around RI where I live and used it recently in Hong Kong and Singapore including for turn by turn nav. It has worked perfectly for me.

more people tend to complain or praise via forums?

Better at smaller cities than Google'd

Could not believe how much more clean, fine detailed are apple's maps at smaller cities in Brazil's country site.

They are pretty recent as well. Satellite picures have a maximum of 2 years old.

I know that because my little Eucaliptus plantation now shows up. It has less than 2 years. :D

so my wife's 4s on 6.0 couldn't find a few locations but my 5.1.1 i4, found them all. that about sums up my experience.

For my area (Rogue Valley region in Southern Oregon) it seems to do just fine. The thing that bugs me, however, is it seems to only search for things in the current showing map section (Say, a particular pizza parlor chain, it would show the ones in the map section I have up, but if I zoom out, wouldn't show the ones in the new outer edge until I re-search.)

Hungary...

Finds most locations fine, but does not have some smaller roads/streets and public transport and of course no 3D stuff.

Google maps is far more detailed.

Seems like something they should correct.

It would have been interesting to see how the votes break down by country. It's my impression that the US is better than other countries. Outside the major cities in the UK there are huge issues.

A survey on this site that has a significant minority who seem so freak out like chicken little over every issue is not a reliable source to make that detirmination from. You also have a good number of posters who seem to relish any opportunity to trash Apple. Any survey on this site is going to be heavily skewed in the negative direction.

I'd say a site like this has more fanboys who will refuse to criticise apple no matter what mistakes are made. Any survey on this site is going to be heavily skewed in a positive direction.

How is your wife finding using the google maps web app? I'm about to move to Dubai, and trying to decide whether to upgrade to the IPhone 5 before I go. I've had a look to see how awful Apple maps are in Dubai, and I know I'll have to rely on google maps in getting to know the city, but am trying to talk myself into the idea that a crapper web version of maps will be offset by the larger screen on the 5!

Sure, but you will also get people that really don't have any issues.

I think you will actually get BOTH fanboy defenders and fanboy criticism.

I've been accused of being a defender, but I simply ask for facts from those criticizing and honest opinions from the defenders.

You're about as fanboy as it gets.

I love apple products. Love them. Never understood all the fanboy jibes from Android owners until this whole fiasco. Coming on here it is stunning to see the bizarre and desperate defence of what even apple has publicly admitted has been a bit of a **** up. I now understand the fanboy references (though I suspect Android messageboards have the same).

Honestly, you're about as objective as Fox News.

Hah...well, if giving my honest opinion on how a product feature works for me while admitting that there may be issues with others makes me a fanboy, so be it.

There are people on here that blindly love and will defend even if they know they are wrong and there are those that over exaggerate an issue, I'm assuming so their point is made?

Everything I have said in "defense" of Apple or Maps or iOS 6 on here has been my own personal opinion or experience. Why should only the "complainers" be allowed to post their opinions or experiences. And why, if they do, should call them out on just being complainers without some sort of example of what they are complaining about?
