LA usually plays a lot of Pop/Top40, NYC usually plays a lot of hip-hop, and London plays a lot of Electronica. Guest DJ's play whatever strikes them. I think you are just tuning in during the NYC hours a lot.

Guess I will try the radio at work or during sleep hours! :)

Remember this in 6-months to a year.

like I said , yeah I already saw this coming, it's gonna suck if your particular favorite artist has an exclusive on another service.

All we can do is hope Apple gets the most/best exclusives or whatever it is in particular you listen to.

To be honest, how many of those other companies have the means or resources to get the same amount of exclusives as Apple can? Spotify continues to bleed money and can't get subscribers to their pay service. They for sure can't afford to do much more. Plus artists in general seem to really like Apple, in general. The one who pays the most and treats the artists the best in the end will win everytime. I'm sure some services will be able to pull off an exclusive or two, but Apple will end up having most of the exclusives in the end. Because everyone will already be on Apple Music, and all their fans will be on Apple Music. Their whole ecosystem is based on the shear number of Apple customers and their ability to pay. It all scales up massively when Apple does it(it being whatever). Even their Apple Watch which most consider a failure has probably sold more units than any other smart watch on the market... And that's where the developers will go because that's where the people and the money are. Music will be no different.

Pharrell's music video was also VERY impressive to me. Drake's didn't seem nearly as costly but one thing they ALL seem to have in common is that you can tell the artists heart and own creativity are in each one. Because of that, I've GREATLY enjoyed each one... Way more so than other music videos released and produced in the usual manner.

I just keep thinking everytime I see one of these videos or listen to a great radio show on Beats 1 - This is going to sell ALOT of phones.

I hope they don't give up their fight to do this to the movie/TV industry. Imagine what Apple could do for the consumers and the actors?

End of the day, this is a bad idea for consumers. Once Spotify starts paying for exclusives, and Vevo starts paying for exclusives, and Google starts paying for exclusives, and the artists behind Tidal make all their work exclusive, and Facebook gets into the ring and starts paying for exclusive, you'll need potentially 6 monthly service charges to access all the music you want because everything will be broken up all over the place.

I agree. It's like what's happening with TV, when you have a series exclusive to Netflix here, a series exclusive to Amazon there...

I was very anti-streaming before AM, but now I've done a 180 and really enjoy it. It's very convenient (and cheap!) when my favorite band releases a new album and I can just hit play anywhere anytime as soon as it's released. My only gripe with AM so far, however, is how you have to use iCloud Music Library to be able to use the "add to my music" and "make available offline" options for new music. I really want these features, but I also want my current ~2,700 songs to stay on my device and not require a connection to listen to. I also don't want to go through and hit the "make available offline" button for each of those 2700 songs. The other night I was trying to play an older album of mine by the fire in the backyard (where my wifi begins to cut out), and it was unlistenable from all the buffering. Super annoying.

I'm guessing there's no work around for this for licensing reasons, but I'd really like to have my cake and eat it too.

Totally destroy the industry for the sake of profit?

they still dont understand how the internet works eh? "exclusive" doesnt last longer than 5 minutes, just look at those exlusives on tidal

I knew it. When I watched Pharrells video, it very clearly looked like an Apple produced video. Then the description about "striking imagery" sounded very much like an Apple thing. And then with Eminems video, how Em is calling it a "music film" I instantly knew that was Apple again. Apple are the ones who pretentiously call all of their videos "films" now.

This is awesome. Baby steps into producing their own content in-house. Whether for the future ATV or Music. Imagine if Apple produced their own artists and music as well. They could produce the music, and put it out to the world through Apple Music. Apple could be the record label, distributor, and pop culture destination where people discover the music. Apple Music could be THE music industry.

Exactly! It's worse than DRM. I will never rely on subscription services for the music I love. I need my own DRM-free files on my own hard drive. Otherwise you are at the mercy of the service to offer the content you want.
