Wow. Yes. I agree.

If that's how this pays out, then this would be one of Apple's greatest achievements.

Will all these videos be screened for appropriate content just like Apple's App store?

I really hope Apple isn't losing focus as a tech company. The apple watch hasn't really lived up to expectation, the 12inch Macbook isn't impressive, Ipads are on the decline, and Apple can only live so long on Job's past glory. I guess the new norm is Apple as a normal tech company.

Reactions: Benjamin Frost
I've been reading MacRumors and the forums section for years now, and due to the absolute blithering xenophobic nonsense I've seen on DOZENS of occasions over the past couple weeks, I've had to register just to say this:

The way so many of you are acting is an embarrassment. One standout in this particular thread has been "Benjamin Frost," -- although there are others and I'm just using him as an initial example. Calling all three music videos Apple has released thus far "trash," for instance. I don't see where Em's video could be seen as particularly offensive aside from the fact it's hop-hop, a genre Frost clearly dislikes -- which is well within his right -- but also one he clearly has more deep-seeded issues about. More to the point, calling Pharrell's video "trash" is flat-out disturbing. While Frost may not like the sound, not only is it not offensive, not only is it not even hip-hop, it's a song and video promoting the issue of human rights. Why does Frost angrily lump it in with trash? I have my suspicions.

Meanwhile, this "anti-hip-hop" sentiment has been espoused in various different ways throughout the forum over the last weeks and ever since the Beats Music acquisition. Some literal statements have (give or take a word or so) have been "how DARE Apple align themselves with such people!" And then you have ill-informed, at best, whines such as "So when are they going to start showing love to something else? There is music besides hip-hop and rap." (Sorry Rogifan, I haven't seen enough of your posts to judge you overall, but that is ill-informed and reactionary). What is the complaint here? 2 out of the 3 main featured Beats1 DJs don't even show any preference for hip-hop/rap, and there is TONS of pop, electronica, and other genres represented. Also, even if Rogifan was only focusing on the music videos, it's a ridiculous statement. There's been, what, about ONE WEEK of elapsed time in which Apple has released their music videos? Even so, it's ALREADY been reported they are readying a music video by James Bay, a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. Of course, with nary a logical thought and only to further his ridiculous anti-hip-hop (?) agenda, Benjamin Frost liked this comment.

And then we have the brilliant gem from Pat500000 above, "this is SO NOT LIKE APPLE," which the usual suspects have also liked. Look, whether you're Pat500000 above or anyone else espousing similar views... get over yourselves. Apple is not only for white suburban nerds, and I say that as a white suburban kid myself. If you don't like hip-hop, don't listen to it. But you need to accept that it's not only a good move from a creative/inclusive standpoint to feature it, it's also a smart business move.

If you're railing against Apple for things like Pharrell's "Freedom" video and screaming, "THIS ISN'T MY APPLE!!!," then you know what, you're right. Because your Apple is clearly some warped, ass-backwards company, and that's not what Apple is.

Quit embarrassing yourselves.

if you going to call out names...DO IT RIGHT. Use the quote. I don't care what your issue is with apple or me. But what i'm saying is the route that apple going is way off the chart then the what the company is "known for." If you just signed to blabber....really..you're wasting people's time. Get over it.

You just said basically EVERYTHING I've been thinking in my head! I'm sick of the "so much rap" whiners. First HARD PROOF proves them wrong you can look at every playlist played and see that it is simply NOT true. Thank you for registering and posting this. I was beginning to wonder if I was the ONLY Apple fan left on an Apple fan forum.

Also whoever that was that said Apple destroyed the music industry and are just now trying to fix it... You do realize that Apple actually SAVED the music industry with the release of the iTunes Store right? If it had not have happened not only would MORE people be pirating music, but it would be much harder for anyone to get access to. I know, because I WAS a music pirate before! Once the iPod and the iTunes Store released I stopped pirating and I have not looked back since. I'm not sure what parallel universe you live in where Apple destroyed the music Industry, but whatever universe it's in, I'm glad I don't live in it.

Honestly I think all the Apple haters have come to MacRumors and run off most of the fans. I think most of you now HOPE Apple fails and anytime they do something good or cool, you find SOMETHING to try to destroy that. I am tired of it! To the poster I quoted above... THANK YOU for again! Because of you I might actually stick around the forums here for a bit longer... As I was about to stop reading and posting here myself.

Spoken like a true adult that that does not view music videos on Youtube. It's a market. There is money there to be had. Deal with it.

I've been reading MacRumors and the forums section for years now,

Quit embarrassing yourselves.

I don't think the people you attack above nor their views are embarrassing. If you don't like people's opinion, maybe the forum section isn't for you. Generally I may agree that calling out a style of music would be a low blow, but when you enter the content business, be prepared for this. If Apple entered the movie business and put out crap, I would say something just like I would if Pixar did (though only express an opinion to genres of my taste or knowledge)

That being said, when you attacked someone for disagreeing with Apple's strategic direction and indirectly allude to something, at least have the guts to say what you mean. You are implying that "white suburban nerds" are racist for not supporting beats and make the faulty assumption it's also because of their taste of music. And this confuses me because of Jimmy I! So it's unfair to judge Pat and say he has ulterior motives in his "so not my apple" comment.

Personally, I now dislike Tim and the direction he has gone. I'm sure you will tell me to get over myself and imply I'm being racist, but nothing can be further then the truth. I really am not impressed with Apple's products (Apple TV, Mac Mini, 12 mabook pro, Apple Watch, Ipad) and after being part of the Apple ecosystem for 10+ years, I'm dabbling with Android products as I am really like Google's innovation. While I love OSX, loved my macbooks (hated not have HDMI but that is another issue) and love my iphone, I see it's core business falling behind.

So lastly, if people express there opinion respectfully, it's fair game on this forum. So suck it up muffin!

That's all fine and dandy, but if you no longer like Apple, the CEO, their products, or the direction they are going in, then why the heck are you on a forum for Apple enthusiasts and fans? That makes no logical sense at all.

For those who can think above simple dichotomies, it's ok to separate and make distinctions between the CEO, and there products.

it's logical to conclude that in a company of 90,000, the CEO isn't the only person who represents the company. While I make it clear I do not want Apple's core competencies to be forgotten while they focus on new business ventures, the CEO plays a huge role in the direction the company is going. Which is why I harp on him so much.

I think you need to reread my post as I never said I dislike Apple, so I don't know where you got that. Apple is a company, it isn't a person who thinks, read, or feels. It is a entity that employs some great minds, has a great corporate culture (or so I have heard), and has some great products. All because two dudes (jobs and woz) had a vision and did great things in Job's parents garage.

But again, I like many Apple Fas do like other companies and have no problems saying admitting some companies have great products and ideas for computers and phones. Competition is good as it elevates everyone's game and useful tech in our lives.

As you were confused in my last post, I'll clarify why i'm on this site. As in my previous post, having been been buying Apple products for 10+ years (14 years to be exact), I love certain experiences they have created. I have no problem voicing my concerns, dislikes, or issues with my products I have purchased, or discuss future products I intend to buy. If this forum is only for praise and to say how much we love Apple and be indoctrinated as a zombie fan boy, then I apologize.

I can't believe...are you just one those PEOPLE that ASSUME EVERYTHING? Really?! Again...quote me if you got something to say to me. Just because I DON"T LIKE THEIR DIRECTION IN BUSINESS DOES NOT MEAN I HATE APPLE.

Yea, that would be great for the consumer and artist.

Oh come on. Special addition CDs would come in anodized aluminum casing for only $129! How can you not love that. Of course, you'll need to pick up an $80 USB super drive or subscribe to Apple Music to get it on your devices.

You better check YouTube. Almost all of the top twenty five YouTube videos are music videos.

YouTube basically gave music videos a place to be reborn and apple is expanding on that.

Agreed. Before YouTube I'd stay up and watch (here in Australia) rage just for a new videoclip. Now, you can just click and find something within seconds. Still work as a promotional tool, as intended from their beginnings during The Beatles days, but I feel they've lost their immediate effect. They're now just a thing of the past. A lot of money for very little return, unless you're a massive act/brand.
The music business has always been tilted to milking the massive acts. So you are saying nothing has changed basically.

At least now small acts can afford to make their own videos. When MTV first launched the only people who got videos made were ones bankrolled by labels because they were full on costly productions, not something that could be done with an iPhone and a Mac.

Plus back then there was a single channel playing videos. How many slots would they have in a 24 hour cycle? 360? How many of those were unique? Probably 50-60. So at any given time in a given day 50 artists MIGHT get their video seen by other people. Sure this was eventually supplemented by local and syndicated TV shows but these were like 30 minute shows that might show 5-8 videos.

The percentage of bands getting videos seen back then was non existent. It is actually better now even if still getting recognized and growing an audience is difficult. At least now bands have a chance. Back then they had no chance. Music videos were solely promotional pieces by labels for the current or next big thing.

Sure eventually more video channels came along but by then mtv was already getting out of the music video business and the hey day for music videos was over.

The current landscape is only second to the original mtv era in terms of videos impacting music. Mtv still weirdly holds a music video award show even though they only show a handful of videos during dead time slots.
