Of course, the new one hasn't even come out yet and they announce an even newer one that is bigger. sigh.

I think the story is premature, but I don't think they would be building anything like their campus in Cupertino anyway, which is meant to house over 13,000 employees. As a comparison, the Tesla factory in Fremont (assuming this would be the closest point of reference if Apple is indeed going to build a car) employs about 3,000 people. The area of the Tesla factory where manufacturing takes place is 5.5 million square feet, vs. 4.15 million in the possible Apple campus listed above. It's hard to imagine Apple needing this much extra space for anything but a major new project like the car we've been hearing about. My gut tells me that this will be the location of Apple's car design and manufacturing facilities along with most of the staff attached to the project. Great news for the South Bay economy if its true.

As rich as Apple is I can't imagine building a factory on prime office space.

And the traffic, which is especially bad in that area, is just going to get even worse.

Presumably they can't build a massive new campus (like the type of thing they're currently constructing in Cupertino) on leased property, and the lots they currently own aren't immediately adjacent to each other, so am I missing something, or is this story a little premature?
I believe that Apple owns the spaceship property. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

Rumor: sounds like a future auto assembly plant...

Indeed it does. But that is a very expensive place to put an auto plant!

There is more to this than we're seeing.

At that size,, this thing won't even get off the ground.. "<Apple> is riddled with power" (aka. Simpsons movie)

I can't keep thinking this is what Apple is blowing their $$$ on despite no one has even moved into Campus 2 yet..

This also says since its "double the size" is Apple wanting to move from Infinite Loop.... These shows signs maybe.

With their new campus set to house 13,000, why would they build separate offices twenty minutes away? I think it'll be more than a factory and include testing and R&D, all close to the "Mothership".

And the traffic, which is especially bad in that area, is just going to get even worse.

Unfortunately 101 is terrible. I avoid it like the plague and take 280 whenever possible.

it would be big enough...

Gives Eddy Cue and Time cook some time at lunch to head to their own "personal" speed-way.

Apple hasn't announced anything.

An Apple vehicle does not need to be manufactured/assembled in California. My guess is there are other states more business friendly in this regard. But considering this is near an airport I doubt it's going to be an office building. More likely some sort of R&D facility.
