So there is this beautiful girl you dated, but you cannot invite her since she uses a Pixel phone …
This girl would likely use WhatsApp and if you were interested in her you would promptly start using WhatsApp. However, as you used the past tense of date, it seems she has already dumped you for using an iPhone

Higher base storage seems a tad more important but what do I know.

That's what's important to you. What you're forgetting is that raising the base storage would mean less people paying for iCloud storage subscriptions.

Subscriptions = $$$

That's what's important to Apple.

Today after Timmy wanted £8.99/month to upgrade I decided to get an external HDD. Download all 200GB of data (with seemingly 129GB of files that appear nowhere else???) and then going to build my own damned cloud. After their extortionate increase in price of hardware its unlikely I will be getting another macbook/ipad any time soon. And this iphone 12 is doing just fine all by itself.

Here come all the people without kids in the comments saying how this is stupid and pointless yet they have no idea what it’s like to send out invites to your kids birthday party or kids graduation party using Evite and how horrible of an experience that is.
I have three kids 7-12. It’s stupid and pointless.

Could Apple give us some confetti by increasing the storage space for the same amount of money to be relevant in 2025?

Whatsapp, cell phone agnostic except for those with flip phones and easy to setup and allow people join the group.

Honestly, Apple device backups shouldn't count toward iCloud storage at all.

Considering iCloud backups can be as big as possible especially with the desktop Macs, I don’t think it’s logical to expect their backup to not count towards iCloud storage.

And a likely iOS-only invites app will help with managing events for Android using guests how?
my gut reaction is, why should Apple be required to make a feature that's potentially designed to sell Apple Devices make it work on Android? Overall I get the need to do interoperability, but again, if it's an Apple centric feature, why should one expect it to work on Android? Plus... the feature isn't even out yet, it's all speculation at this point.

So they can get a taste of the Apple experience and always be possibly pulled over as more engaged customers

He said the service will offer users a "new way to invite people to parties, functions, and meetings."

If this has cross-platform functionality, I'm totally down for it. Finding times for things with other people is a major PITA and anything that simplifies it -- and can integrate with my calendar -- would be super helpful.

I do all my inviting for MidSummer, Crayfish, Vappu, Pikkujoulu and other parties using WhatsApp. Simple to do and everyone I care about responds promptly as I throw great parties
Have you tried Partiful? I really enjoy that one. I wonder if the Apple app will be similar?

Macs can't backup to iCloud Backups. They can only use Time Machine backups which are all on some form of local storage.

The extreme pricing that Apple charges for storage upgrades can easily fund the extra cost of storing a larger iCloud backup. Considering iCloud backups don't support versioning they can't exceed the size of the iDevice itself. Many portions are also split out like Photos if using iCloud Photos.

Yes. You are correct about Time Machine backups on the Mac.

To clarify myself, I was thinking along the line of something like iCloud documents. You can store 5TB of documents/videos/etc. on the iCloud that syncs with your Mac, but obviously you can only access a portion of that on your iDevices.

So while your Mac’s are synced with the whole iCloud documents folder, your iDevices can’t.
