I hope we see a price decrease on Mac Pro with the way Apple is releasing its updated Silicon chips.

While the M2 Pro Mac Mini is fine for my needs, I’m really wondering what’s happened to the Mac Pro development? What are the problems that Apple has run into and are seemingly unable to fix? There’s just something completely off about the lineup philosophy if the new Mac Pro can’t deliver a substantial upgrade to the Studio (either in terms of performance or in terms of upgradability).

We're talking about an unreleased product but right now the architecture of the M1/M2 series does not support PCIe. I agree, if apple develops a computer to have upgradeable ram, storage and possibly GPUs, yes I agree completely.
I am thankful for Apple creating the Mac Studio. Odds are it sells more than the Mac Pro.

Apple probably noticed many, not all, Mac Pro purchases where in none of the PCIe slots were used.

People wanted the most powerful Mac desktop without the extra expense of features they would never use.

Only feature I'd want are extra NVMe M.2 slots.

My guess is that Mac Pro's not profitable enough for Apple to develop it at the pace of a MBA.

I would not be surprised that Apple sold more units of the Mac Studio than the Mac Pro.

Guys, the original article is too hard to read, so I took the liberty to summarize it to less literate users.

Starting with the M3 line, Apple will rebrand the Mac Studio as "Mac Pro".

"It's the perfect plan", Tim Apple said. "Users will be willing to spend much more for the refresh, and we will be able to save by offering less features, pleasing shareholders".

The move is expected that the move will boost AAPL in 50%, because users will keep promoting the new Mac Studio Pro and defend Apple's every move.

Rumors are that Apple will release the new Mac Studio Pro as the "Mac Pro: Carbon-Neutral foot print edition", in accordance with their 2030 carbon-neutrality roadmap.

One of the promises of moving to Apple Silicon was REGULAR updates…yet another new pro computer that might be a one off…this is a terrible decision if true.

iMac staying on M1…no updates to the studio…death of the 27” iMac. No design changes to the mini nor colors on anything except the iMac (and the Midnight/Starlight of the Air, which didn’t come to the pros).

Apple Silicon is great, but as usual with Apple, the product line gets confusing and befuddled when they just don’t update things.

This report does not make sense to me. It's costly to align manufacturing capabilities to produce a completely new design. With the performance gap closing between the Mac Mini and the Studio, there won't be much of a value proposition for the Studio any longer. Why go through that expense for a product that won't sell in significant volume past the first iteration?

So potentially

M2max only studio

Or

An m3 mini redesign that houses m3/pro/max chips with more ports at top end.

Or

Tier the Mac Pro and studio like they do the iPhones with the studio getting m2ultra after pro line moved to m3ultra

A new version of the Mac Studio with the "M2 Ultra" chip is unlikely to arrive in the near future, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained that since the upcoming Apple silicon Mac Pro is "very similar functionality to the Mac Studio," Apple may wait until the release of M3- or M4-series chips to update the machine, or simply never refresh the device at all:To date, little has been rumored about the next-generation Mac Studio, so Gurman's latest remarks are the firmest indication yet that a new version of the machine is unlikely to arrive any time soon.

Last month, it emerged that Apple reportedly scaled back its plans for the first Apple silicon Mac Pro, scrapping the "M2 Extreme" chip and falling back on non-user-upgradable memory and the same design as the 2019 model. The device is now expected to offer the M2 Ultra only – a chip that would also have logically come to the next-generation Mac Studio.

The M2 Ultra chip is almost certain to double-up the capabilities of the recently introduced M2 Max chip, which is currently only available in the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro. With reduced modularity and similar performance on the upcoming Mac Pro, Apple's move to hold off on updating the Mac Studio's hardware may make sense until it can work out a better strategy for the machine's positioning going forward.

Disappointing, but makes sense if they can’t meaningfully differentiate the SoC options. One or the other is going to be neglected by customers trying to max out with an Ultra, and a Pro mini is probably good enough for everyone else who doesn’t need the extra GPU of a Max.

I'd wait at least half a decade or more before even considering VR.
likewise—my point in linking to it is that he seems to just report…anything and everything. it’s kind of shocking how regularly MR posts stuff from him (though, unless I missed something, they didn’t post this, much to their credit). his track record is is as all-over-the-place as a toddler’s scribbles. Kuo feels like the only reliable person left (but even he gets stuff wrong, I wouldn’t expect anyone to have a perfect track record).

don’t even get me started on any post involving DigiTimes lmao

- Mac Mini - cheap, Mx/Mx Pro, limited in RAM, limited in ports, limited in cooling
- Mac Studio - medium priced, Mx Max/Mx Ultra, lots of ports and lots of cooling, lots of RAM
- Mac Pro - expensive, Mx ”Insane”, over the top with RAM, ports, cooling, and expansion opportunities

It’s not a difficult roadmap to follow and understand… even Kuo and Gurman understands it.

Apple sees no reason to have every generation of CPUs in every Mac line - it’s that simple, and it makes sense - there simply isn’t enough of a performance improvement to justify that.
I agree. I hope Apple sees it also like that and that they will not abandon the Mac Studio. I would like them though to update the Mac Studio with the M2 Max & Ultra chips. German doesn't really know anything. He ist just suggesting the obvious. I wonder why people tend to listen to this guy..
