So many illogical minds in this thread. It isn't Apple that is driving the latest and greatest, it is Intel. Imagine that the new CPU's out and Apple decides not to use them, so it doesn't upset people that bought a Laptop this year. How stupid would that be? Computer components are upgraded on a lightning fast pace, usually multiple times in a year, don't expect any laptop to be top dog for more than a few month. Seems to me most of you just need to grow up and learn that always needing the latest and greatest is a disease.

Guys, the processors they would bump to are just a few hundred MHz increase. Zero other changes and you'll never see it in day to day.

If I happened to be buying this fall, which I'm not, I would certainly appreciate 200 MHz speed bump. (I can remember when my laptop had a 200 MHz processor!). I just hope that when the Ivy Bridge processors come out, Apple keeps its head regarding why the MBP exists in the first place. The Air is in many ways remarkable, but, it doesn't cut it for many applications and users.

Oh for gods sake Apple just hurry up and redesign it! it looks outdated now and plus the current models are crap :apple:

I'm curious why you think that. I bought the entry-level 13" model and I am really happy with my purchase. All I have done is to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB. Doing that increased the video RAM to 512 MB. I'm not wanting to fight or argue with you, I'm sincerely interested.

Puh-lease. The unibody MBP will go down as one of Apple's best designs ever. In fact, I do not need a new computer yet but I am thinking maybe I should upgrade to the current line because I'm worried that the rumored 2012 models won't be to my liking.

I totally agree. I bought mine when I did because I am not fond of the current trend of discontinuing the optical drives and using a much smaller than normal hard drive. Even if it is an SSD. I know that they are fast, but I prefer capacity to speed. That and I have heard some things about the SSD's that I did not like. Perhaps one day they will be ready for prime time, but in my opinion, that time is not now. I'll take tradition over popular fad any day. I know that the MacBook Air is popular, but I still prefer the Pro!

This makes sense considering the major design changes that are rumored for the next generation of MBP design.

They need more time to prepare their next laptops which will presumedly have Ivy Bridge CPUs, high PPI ("retina") displays, and an Air-like form factor dropping the optical disk drives and likely the hard disk drives too. We already know that Ivy bridge is going to change the "medium" voltage from 35 watts currently to 25 watts, and that quad core Ivy Bridge processors are going to be available in the 35 watt class as opposed to requiring 45 watts today. That should help even more in getting the sizes down on very high performance laptops.

Really?!?

How dare you exhibit logic and a willingness to accept the realities of modern electronics design and manufacturing.

Why can't you live in a dreamworld where the laws of physics have been suspended like the majority of MR forum participants?

You should be ashamed to attract undue attention by showing a sensible knowledge of the forum topic at hand.

What kind of kid did your parents raise?!?

Most people prefer to have the best "bang for the bucks", but there are also some who prefer to have the fastest, whatever the price :)

Thats what I'm saying, it doesn't make web browsing, emailing, or anything else really noticeably faster. It's interesting to see that the fast majority of users only do basic tasks with their MBP. I guess waiting a few seconds less while exporting a movie in final cut is worth 200 to some:confused:

looks outdated? So that's why every other company is trying to make their laptops look like the MBP's. What are you smoking?

haha, well it's not a surprise is it considering the delay in Ivy Bridge. I guess I can't say when Ivy Bridge MB Pros will be out now? But I wouldn't rule out a new Mac Pro design, if Intel launch the chips?

Well at least you all have more time to save, so do I too :)

makes sense for a bump now.
The air makes the pro seem slow :D (i said slow not weak)

i mean the late 08 model got a bump in 09, then first get i7's idk if the first gens had a bump but now its second gens, so a second gen bump sounds logical before the new ivy bridge.

Plus Sandy Bridge-E is just to come, so it would be a good bump. If they include USB 3.0 I'll be sold. Could be the last mac with a built in CD drive ;)

If Apple releases "Late 2011" MacBook Pro models that bump the processor specs, I would imagine that the machines would also bump the following to place them in line with the recently released MacBook Air and Mac mini:

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • OS X Lion recovery partition

Don't all lion computers come with a recovery partition already?

Makes the current lineup even more desirable as they are the last to be able to run SL, unless they have shut that down quietly in the last month or two as well. Any non-IB update at a 6 month+ time point seems a shame should it delay the IBness itself. They are really helping the decision to drop the ball at this rate.

Knowing me, unless they just slip in BTO CPU upgrades, I'll probably sell my Early '11 MBP to have a Late '11 MBP. I'll probably make money doing it since I paid like $600-$700 less than retail Apple pricing. Plus, updated F3/F4 keys, Bluetooth 4.0, and a slight speed bump, and a refresh of the warranty for a full year. Plus, no dead pixel (I hope) like on my current one. But I may keep mine to have the ability to run Snow Leopard, just in case.

AppleInsider claims that Apple may be bumping the processors of the MacBook Pros before the end of this year, but will make no other changes to the notebooks.Intel recently introduced 16 new Sandy Bridge processors, some of which could be used in the current generation MacBook Pros.

Last year, Apple quietly added a high end 2.8GHz Core i7 option to the MacBook Pros in late October. So, the move is not without precedent, though last year it was offered only as a built-to-order option and not an across the board upgrade.

And the point to doing this would be...?

I'm excited about their 2012 release. Main reason why would be USB 3.0 support~ and if there's a redesign, it'll be a kicker.

Either way, I don't mind if it's just a processor bump, but I would prefer the redesign.

I hate my new MBP. It runs super hot. PowerBook G5, this thing. We need cool-running computers, not more heat.

I prefer my MacBook Air. Honestly, it's almost as fast.

This is basically the opposite of startling. Technology isn't quite where Apple wants it yet; we're still a little ways away from SSDs coming standard on laptops, and both Intel's Ivy Bridge chips and AMD's Radeon HD 7000 series are on the horizon still. There isn't the tech out there to justify revamping the MBP's technical details in any significant way.

There could have been a chassis change, but I for one am pretty comfortable with the MBP's current chassis. It would take something really impressive to get me to buy a new MBP just because it has a different chassis.

Its september now. I can't see how people can really complain so much or be annoyed. I also dont see this kind of crybaby behaviour on the PC side, and if Mac users were to be using custom built computers, they'd be depressed all year round; new technology emerges ALL the time.

I just got a 2011 MacBook Pro... this doesnt bother me much. It won't be a huge improvement anyway.

The crybaby behavior is only here:rolleyes:,not in the 99% of the Apple folks that don't kow this forum even exists:cool:

I would assume new designs would wait until apple release a new OS. We assume Lion is the last version of OS X right? It would make sense if they delayed new models until OS XI.
