Completely to be expected. Haven't used the phone jack in an iphone ever, the last time would have been the 1st generation ipod touch (where you had to to get any sound at all).

This sounds like a terrible idea, just like when it was rumored after they bought out Beats.

I won't immediately switch to android but I will look at getting a 6s+ after all because I will skip the 7 and probably subsequent models. Having a lightning adapter and no usb-c is bad enough but losing the headphone jack is just a terrible idea.

Yes the lightning connector already outputs digital audio, and headphones running from a lightning connector would be fed a digital signal. This story makes no sense.

LOL if this rumour turns out to be true, well, I guess Apple got more and more absorbed into the sacrifice of features for thinness. Eventually, the phone will be so thin that it'll fold like a piece of paper... except bending in the process.

I really hope this isn't true. People will have to stop listening to their music just because the battery is low and they have to charge it.

The thiness excuse is BS. There are a number of Android phones that are thinner than the iPhone and they all have headphone jacks.

How about Apple focus on something more useful than thinness like improving battery life.

If this is true, I'll be getting the note 6.

Oh wow, so we will have to decide either listen to music of charge the phone....knowing Apple. they won't ship it with adapter out of the box....just look at the new Macbook...it doesn't ship with the adapter for full size USB, instead its an ad-on....here we go...more $$ in apple's pocket.

And that's why God created companies like Lenovo, HTC, HP, Asus, Sanyo, etc. Best to purchase one of those products and find happiness.

Don't forget Motorola. I just gave away my ipone and got a moto x pure, the best phone I have ever owned. Cook can up his bonus without me and he will be fine. We both will be. Your point is right, don't moan just move on.

Umm... ok. And 3.5mm thickness is such a big issue because.... why?

At some point, you run out of good excuses for some of these changes and the conclusion becomes; it allows Apple to makes more profit from proprietary parts!

Nobody I know is upset that their iPhone 6s is too thick! (Many people spent $100 or so for a battery case that doubled its thickness, just so they could get more battery life.)

The ability to work with pretty much any pair of earbuds or headphones made with a standard plug, used for many, many decades, is a pretty big thing to just discard in the name of making the phone a little thinner. No, this is clearly about Apple making more profit on accessories and adapters.

Reminder that it's the 3.5 mm headphone jack that's the sole reason the iPhone is so thick.

I pray this is not true. That plug works with billions of EXISTING cords/headphones/etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it as it is not a data port where evolution is expected. If this is true it confirms my worst fear that Jony's ideal of design perfection is a white cue ball.

OK, let's compromise. Remove the 3.5 mm jack but make the iPhone thicker with a larger battery and better camera.

Sounds like an engineer ran across one of the Think Different posters.

Seriously, though, given that it's Apple it's not a huge surprise. But what will they do with Beats? Sell each pair with an adapter?

Also seems strange to worry about making the iPhone thinner when the camera already has a nubbin.

slow news day, what stupid rumour site dredged this old fake news from?

considering every apple product has and needs the jack for so many thing, to remove it would be a very stupid move. even i would consider apple to have lost the plot if such a thing were true.

with the camera bump why are we even trying to get thinner. i think we are at the point of severely diminishing returns, cases add more bulk too. the strength of the phone also limiting too.

i call fake on this one

YES! Now the phone is even thinner and the battery life is 3x as bad! Awesome Apple! Now I can't use my $900 dollar headphones without an adapter and my phone is thinner than my credit cards...
