Got a 6 PLUS sitting in a drawer with the TOUCH DISEASE IC issue. The phone was replaced twice by APPLE and still has the same issue - each replacement (paid to apple) has failed. May bring this device in for another swap to a 6S which is more sturdy and less prone to the IC issue...

I sent my iPhone 6 plus in for this very repair last week and picked up a 6 s plus today.
Go for it!

Interesting... literally today my iPhone 6 Plus has started having an issue that indicative of water damage in the headphone jack (erroneously stays in "headphones-in mode" )and last night I got splashed by a wave with my iPhone in my pocket, but didn't think anything of it at the time.... If the problem doesn't go away I figured it would finally be time to upgrade... How much does a whole device replacement repair cost?

Edit: According to this it looks like $329. It's probably not worth it to get a 6s rather than just jumping up to an 8/X

No, it doesn't.
I had pay the price of the display repair my 6 plus needed and got a 6 s plus instead. I bought it in 2014 and exchanged it twice under warranty.
Hmm interesting, still a gamble though i guess if someone was hoping to get a 6s

What makes you guys think it has anything to do with the ‘battery replacement’ issue going on??? It could possibly JUST mean that they are VERY low in certain stock of 6plus models.... and maybe a surplus of 6s plus....???!!! Have you ever just sat and thought about how many different models of iphones are STILL in production???? You have almost almost a dozen, and then you have different colors, different memory amounts......
Just be F@@@kin happy With the newer model or upgrade if you will!!!!!!
My goodness you're angry.

How can you still have Apple Care on a device that's more than 2 years old????

Apple used to start the warranty at the activation date, but now they start it at the initial point of sale even for sealed boxes. I'm not sure when this change took effect. I have a new open box iPhone 6 Plus that I got from an online store with warranty until 8/20/18 that I've never used. I'm selling it for $600 still.

Isn't it better though the just "wait" till Apple gets batteries in than to be disappointed u did not get you device back... instead you got a newer one?

I know I would be. If i wanted an iPhone 6s Plus, I would of bought it..

If you have a damaged iPhone 6 Plus that qualifies for a whole-device replacement, Apple may replace it with an iPhone 6s Plus through March, according to an internal document distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers today.

iphone-6s-plus-front-back.jpg

Apple specifically states that "orders for whole unit service inventory of some iPhone 6 Plus models may be substituted to an iPhone 6s Plus until the end of March 2018." MacRumors confirmed the memo's authenticity with multiple sources, who requested to remain anonymous due to their positions.

Apple doesn't specify which iPhone 6 Plus models are eligible, nor does it provide a reason for the substitution, but it likely relates to Apple's shortage of iPhone 6 Plus replacement batteries until late March to early April.

A previous internal document obtained by MacRumors states that Apple no longer manufactures the iPhone 6 Plus, so it likely has to reboot its production lines to replenish its supply of both the device itself and batteries, which would certainly take time. Apple did not respond to our request for comment.

It's possible that some customers who have visited a Genius Bar recently opted for a whole-device replacement rather than waiting until March or April for a new battery, which may have depleted the little supply of iPhone 6 Plus replacement units that Apple had, but this is only speculation on our part.

Apple and most Apple Authorized Service Providers can replace an iPhone's display, battery, speakers, rear camera, or Taptic Engine individually, while a defective Lightning connector, faulty logic board, and most other repairs are generally eligible for a whole-device replacement, our source said.

Your mileage may vary depending on the exact damage to your iPhone and the results of Apple's diagnostic tests. Apple Support can be reached on the web or by scheduling a Genius Bar appointment. Apple Authorized Service Providers can be searched for on Apple's Find Locations page under Service & Support.

I went to have my iphone 6 plus looked at. Was told the logic board is dead. Lucky me its something they can do for free. But after 2 hours no battery and they didnt replace the logic board do to the apple store in ct place a after market screen on it. So screwed 2xs by apple and told to buy new screen for 300. Or toss in trash and buy new iphone x

I have a iPhone 6plus and after 18 months of ownership I downloaded the newest build and as soon as I did my restart the Touch ID no longer worked. I took it in for service and they said a repair would cost and they also informed me my battery was weak. Fed up I said dont do anything I will live with it as is. Ive said before in this forum that I had 2 not 1 but 2 MacBook airs (2011 & 2014) that after 2 years I downloaded the newest build and BOTH times the mother board fried and the battery died. I dont believe this was a coincidence. Final analysis : I still buy apple products but I do NOT DL any upgrade build once the unit is up to a year to 14 months old. At the moment I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro w Touchbar with original OS build and its just fine! I refuse to upgrade. One should seriously consider what the latest build offers that you really need ....to me its a risk and sadly I don't trust Apple 100% anymore. IMHO they are hell bent on driving the stock price up via dirty deeds. Again, just my opinion derived from personal experience and I don't think i'm being unfair, unreasonable or whiney.

It’s always a catch22....
- If a company tries to fix something, they get people saying “ah ha! So you admit you are guilty! Too bad, damage is done.”
- If they don’t do anything or limit what they do, they still get people saying “with all your billions, you could at least admit your mistake, come clean, and just replace the product. Greedy.”

They will never make everyone happy.

just my two cents.
They don't need to make anyone happy. They need to be honest and transparent.

They obviously are struggling with this ever since they started the coverup with the 6+ shutting down at 40% (even with a brand new battery). They should have fixed the issue and done a recall then. They decided to screw around and throttle phones to cover it up. It would have been done and over with years ago. Instead this is dragging out for years. The crazy thing is some people will defend this behavior.

Mine still works fine. No problems ever, despite the dent I put in the back of it when it was new.

Mine has worked flawlessly until the last major iOS update. I’ve loved the large screen. Now it’s so throttled it has become very frustrating to use. I’m in Barcelona and am waiting for the Apple Store to get me a new battery. Wouldn't mind a complete replacement of the phone, of course. What a mess.

Unfortunately it looks like Apple actually is artificially imposing planned obsolescence on its hardware. Jobs’ legacy is too high quality I guess. And Tim Cook is nothing more than a powerless spokesman for whoever is actually pulling the strings.

Wow they are spending a lot of money on this issue.

They could honestly do less. We already know they messed up. The damage is done.

If it were me, I'd stop at the reduced battery costs.

A 6s+ is a better phone than a 6s, but that's because it uses newer parts, not more expensive parts. I would think that building a 6s+ costs about the same money as a 6s, at least not much more. If they have to replace the phone anyway, then giving you a 6s+ instead of a 6s doesn't cost much. (And why don't they do it all the time? Because you could expect lots of older phones to develop "faults" suddenly. Phone insurances always have a surge of claims when a new iPhone is released).

I think it has to be under AppleCare still in order to get the replacement?
You can always pay for an out-of-warranty replacement.

My friend just had his 6 (non plus) replaced under Apple care in the UK so shame shortage is limited to the plus! He did get a storage upgrade though!

This seems like good news for those of us with iPhone 6 plus. So i need your help fellow macrumors readers.

I had an iPhone 6 plus that had touch disease. The device was replaced under warranty this december with a new iPhone 6 plus. But since day one touch randomly stops working (2-3 times a day) until i lock and unlock the screen. So currently i'm trying to wait it out to see if this is a software issue. Do you guys advise me to wait or send it to Apple and maybe get a new iPhone?

Every poster on SD will run to get a new phone for resale. Can't have nice things, I guess.

Either way this allows the end user (direct or through kijiji resale) to get a 64bit iphone with some longevity and ability to use existing and new services (paid) which is a longer term and higher revenue stream as there is minimal expenses. Moreover the users become locked in as it were for the majority.

Win win for Apple. Besides the 6S will soon be done as well. Those users will do a major upgrade as the result of the good will and fortunous upgrade.

I finally received an email from Apple support regarding my battery replacement. The earliest will be the end of March into mid April! Really, this is redicilous. I need my phone for work and unless I keep an external battery connected to it I have all sorts of issues. With a ripped of battery it functions and I only restart it maybe once a day. Once it starts to get around 50% everything goes downhill quick.

All this is doing is giving me a reason not to upgrade to another iPhone. Slowly getting frustrated with the way Apple is going.

I guess I’ll see if they can just replace it, it will then be the 3rd 6S Plus I’ve had
Frustrated Apple user.

Sounds like that phone came with touch disease. Those are classic symptoms of touch disease & it will only get worse as time goes on. I would try and get it replaced before the warranty runs out.

So, does this mean that someone could smash the screen of their 6 plus, then just pay the $329 out-of-warranty cost and get upgraded to a 6s plus?

if you have one of the models that is constrained. but chances are its just one model like the Sprint Black

did you actually have a failed diagnostic. Or did they just order it the battery because you asked them too. Because apparently that's happening a lot and personally I think its ********. they say that the software only kicks in when the battery condition falls under a certain mark (like 75% or something). so instead of a discounted battery replacement for anyone that bitches and moans, it should have been a free one for anyone that comes in with a battery that's under whatever that kick in level is. Cause those are the folks that really need it, not the bitching folks who probably have great batteries and some other issue going on.

What are you talking about? If the logic board is dead, that’s automatically a new phone. That part can’t be repaired.

Way to make stuff up

I would jump on this since it fixes the lemon issues except the battery on the iPhone 6 series that should've never been sold.

- bendable aluminum
- DRAM starved
- touch disease defect
- battery defect
