Whatever, never needed a cable to transfer stuff or charge that fast. Good thing I already have a decent USB C cable
...which would be in breach of the EU directive, an invitation for a lawsuit in many jurisdictions (EU or not), get any adverts claiming that the phone had a USB-C port banned anywhere but the US and probably disqualify them from Thunderbolt certification. Not sure if this had been posted before
Did you intentionally not understand my point? What’s your point? It’s still 40 gbps right?
they did not remove the port/cable, it's still there, just the worst version of it. They chose to castrate it and give it 2.0 speeds for greed. How has this anything to do with tech evolving and moving from one mass medium to another?
Fast USB-C or even TB4 connections are going to be great for some people using their iPhones for serious photo/video work but even they are probably still going to want a thinner, lighter, longer, more flexible cable or three for daily charging (who has only one charge cable and isn't gonna need several with the switch to USB-C?)
Or when they are one of the first to introduce USB in a mass market device.
True this entire thread is based on the assumption that the iPhone 15 will even have USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt - but its all rumors at the moment and some rumors are indeed saying that the iPhone 15 Pro will have A17 and/or that it will have USB 3.2 - or even Thunderbolt so its really anybody's guess what the actual features will be.What some people don't know, or intentionally fail to understand, is the A16 cpu/gpu USB port doesn't support fast USB-C speeds. And was never intended to do so.
One thing is for certain. When everything is known, there will be some number of people that used to find value in what Apple produces that no longer finds value in what Apple is producing and will be VERY upset that there are millions upon millions that do.Lets wait and see what apple actually puts in the phones, includes in the box, and charges for accessories.
The EU’s regulations are likely why the top tech companies in the world aren’t based there. But I'll buy whatever service/product they are selling any day over what the EU is offering.
No, when would you need to spend $120 just for a longer cable? Completely unnecessaryDid you intentionally not understand my point?
Too right. Before Tim took over I’d just walk into any Apple Store and get whatever product I wanted for FREE! Steve Jobs knew how to give away products in a way Tim Cook will never understand. This is Tim Cook’s Apple. Don’t expect anything free. Lol.
I kinda have this weird respect to Apple for not giving anything above USB 2 speeds. It’s a middle finger to the EU.
One cable can do “it all” as long as what “it all” is, is limited. Unfortunately for the EU (because they made the choice to require USB-C), “it all” for that standard port includes everything from electric toothbrush chargers with no data transfer required to devices that pull 240W+ and/or multiple Gbps. That's just the point. There should be a single type of USB-C Cable that does it all.
Likely because it took them the better part of four years just to learn the last tech and they’ll be durned if they have-ta go an take ANOTHER 4 years learning the next! Then they need to buy a portable wifi router? A laptop with WiFi 7? Why do people immediately become incredibly incapable of solving the simplest technology problem when they want to complain?
Apple isn't going to do this. If they were going to do that, they would have already so that on the iPads and Macs.
The EU didn't invent USB-C and neither did they mandate it for data transfers. So now you end up with different cables that share the same appearance but not the same capabilities. Before that, you could visually tell what was a video cable, what was an audio cable, now they all look the same but don't work the same.
Thanks EU.
What some people don't know, or intentionally fail to understand, is the A16 cpu/gpu USB port doesn't support fast USB-C speeds. And was never intended to do so.
Is it? Why would it be, considering even its immediate predecessor supports much higher speeds? It wasn't "castrated" or for greed as the A16 cpu/gpu USB port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
Thanks for the suggestions man. Very reasonable. I‘ll go grab that Sanyo phone! It's for charging to satisfy regulators. Period. It wasn't "castrated" or for greed as the A16 cpu/gpu USB port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
I recommend purchasing a Samsung/Sanyo/Motorola/etc phone so you can get blazing USB speeds and find happiness.
I'll continue to use WiFi 6/6E as it more than meets my transfer rate requirements.
The first iPadPro from 2015 or so even had USB 3 speeds. Is it? Why would it be, considering even its immediate predecessor supports much higher speeds?
Apple's A15 does support up to 5Gbps.

Apple's A15 does support up to 5Gbps.
We just have to live with the fact that some people will defend anything Apple does and find the funniest excuses.
Right, unless you need a longer cable…No, when would you need to spend $120 just for a longer cable? Completely unnecessary
iPad mini's logic board isn't big either. But it's a good point. You’re presuming that’s built into the SoC. Could just be a separate chip, and room for that is limited on the iPhone.
No, I disagree. WiFi 6 (and soon to be 6E) more than meets my phone transfer rate needs.
But I'm on outlier on this group, remembering the whinefest when Apple ditched the floppy disk, and then the CD.
