So you're telling me with the quadrupling down that all the panel manufacturers are doing with OLED, they're going to be moving to Micro-LED (which can't be produced in volume yet) thus making Apple late to the game?

That doesn't make sense from an R&D, supply chain tooling, investment, or logistical sense.
Yes, even if Apple had OLED screens they would still be late to the game.

I think Apple is doing the right thing. After seen so many Burn in, Image retention issues with allot of OLED displays this is a huge headache that Apple should avoid at all cost. I have seen this to all of my friends who use Samsung.

wow 8pm and still above 50% batt life that's awesome i wish my 6s+ could do that. bring on the "oleds"

I've only seen this with store display units that run the same images every day, all day long.
I've owned phones with OLED displays for years and have never seen this on any of my devices or my family's devices.
Not saying it can't happen, but one has too look at the circumstances under which the burn in occurs.
Hell TFT-LCD displays still have this issue. Run the same image all day long and don't put the screen to sleep... same thing will happen.

Pff...I'm not waiting for the boooooring 2017 iPhone. The 2018 iPhone is much more exciting.
my magic number for me to return to an iphone is 2020 i hoping by then they will have fast wireless charging, a file system, and LED notifier. then im in. if not count me out

So it seems the iPhone 7 and 7s are just going to be expensive fillers with a faster chip and the same old tech until the iPhone 8 huh? Apple must be in denial thinking they can wait that long while iPhone users leave in...groves. see what I did there? :)

most apple users are not smart enough to leave. they still get hypnotized as soon as they here the words "magical, innovative, game changer..." lol... cracks my up every year it's so funny.

So you're trying to play Apple evangelist to all your friends by showing a picture of a display model burn in?

Should I send to all my friends using an iPhone pictures of Touch Disease? Or how about the dented cases that seem to be common for display models too?

When you run any device, in a public setting, at 100% screen brightness, on a static image, you run the risk of burn in, on any LCD or LED display.

So you've shown all your android friends this image. How many of them actually have encountered this themselves on their phones? I bet it's none. Don't spread FUD

Meanwhile Galaxy owners enjoy their superior tech here and now. Water resistance is a bigger priority than 3D Touch. We don't need another dimension of interactivity. Long tap is all we need.

I'd rather wait for someone to do it right than to have "superior tech" that doesn't perform. http://www.chicagotribune.com/blues...sung-phone-not-waterproof-20160708-story.html

too late for that, they are already left behind....see how fast technology moves. don't blink or your end up like apple....in the rear view mirror

Yes, while everyone else is still trying to get an NFC payment program off the ground, all of those extra years with NFC really paid off...oh wait.

all i know is that my nfc payments work all the time unlink applepay which rarely works. my samsunpay works every single time flawlessly

Yes, while everyone else is still trying to get an NFC payment program off the ground, all of those extra years with NFC really paid off...oh wait.

The Samsung Waterproofing issue was isolated to the S7 Active (ironically), and Samsung has since issued a recall / fix program.

So you know, more FUD.

the NFC payment program doesn't mean Apple is up to speed on the technology. Currently Apple has their NFC locked down so only Apple Pay can use it. Android has an open NFC API and NFC is available for dozens of other uses, including banks own payment options that don't require Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or Android Pay.

really like the OLED screen on my galaxy s7.
but everytime i'm using my ipad or macbook i don't feel like i'm missing anything.
which is why i won't have any problem going back to the iphone.
the eyes adapt really fast.

Statements like this drive me nuts. Is this compared to LCD, OLED, or both?

Wikipedia is a bit more specific.

"Compared to the widespread LCD technology, mLED displays offer far greater contrast, much faster response times, and would use less energy.

Along with OLEDs, mLEDs are primarily aimed at small, low-energy devices such as smartwatches and smartphones. OLED and mLED both offer greatly reduced energy requirements compared to conventional LCD systems. Unlike OLED, mLED is based on conventional GaN LED technology, which offers far higher total brightness than OLED products, as much as 30 times, as well as higher efficiency in terms of lux/W. It also does not suffer from the shorter lifetimes of OLED, although the multi-year lifespan of modern OLEDs has mitigated this issue in most roles."

I hate oled display which has color shifting in certain viewing angle. I still prefer lcd.

mLED does look promising, the hope is that it'll eventually be available in enough scale for use. its been a couple years, and still in R&D, hopefully wont be another bust like Liquid Metal or Sapphire glassed screens.

Will these be susceptible to burn-in like OLED? I am consciously trying to avoid buying another OLED screened phone as the last two (S3 and Note 4) I had suffered from burn-in rather badly. Everyone keeps ranting and raving about OLED but the grass isn't entirely greener. Sounds like the iPhone 7 Plus will be the phone for me.

These FUD spreaders don't know what they are talking about. Once you use the S7/Edge/Note7 super AMOLED display you'd never want to go back to LCD. For smartphone I wouldn't settle for anything less than AMOLED. For my iPad Pro 12.9" I am content with the LCD display because it's also fantastic.

That burn in from the picture the original poster does indeed exist but you'd have to set the screen on one single image and leave it max brightness for days on in before you'd get any rentention. LCD's can also get image retention just ask my 2014 MBR. I've not experienced this with my 2015 MBR yet.

As for Apple Pay it's the biggest flop in history thus far. Samsung pay is FAR SUPERIOR - I've been using it at any and all locations where I can swipe. When MST disappears (maybe in late 2019) Samsung pay still will accept NFC pay terminals just like Apple Pay.

Whatever FUD is spread about Samsung devices they are basically the apple in android world. Build quality fit and finish is bar none on android side.

Not to forget NFC on apple's devices you can't even use for anything. On android side you have Trigger app and a bunch of other NFC apps to read/write data to/from. You keep waiting for micro-LED technology while we enjoy year after year of AMOLED improvements.

Well if that's the case, they should have launched an OLED iPhone this year.
