But that doesn't change anything about what you said. You suggested that a large screen was foolish because we are discussing a phone. Yes the iPhone and other smartphones make calls, but they are far from just phones, and I would argue that most users enjoy other features more often than they actually make calls. Features that are less enjoyable on a smaller screen many would say. I'm not saying I want a phone with a six inch screen, but it would be nice to have an option to keep using iOS while having a larger screen than the current iPhones offer. Trying to argue that the iPhone screen is perfect because it's simply just a phone is like trying to argue that a MacBook is simply a facebook machine.

People like to be able to choose without ever entering the decision making process. Simply having a second screen size option would shut a lot of people up.

iOS runs on iPad btw.

The iPhone is called an iPhone. I didn't use phone as meaning a device to make calls on. I used phone meaning a mobile device used for basically anything but it is mobile, so making it too big would make it less mobile.

I don't know why everyone wants to pick a fight with me. I was simply saying that Apple designed the phone with the screen it has for a reason. 4 inches would make it better, but trying to out do the android competition in screen size would really bother me. I don't want to carry something that big around with me.

----------

4"- 4.5" is sufficient 5 Inches is too much. Some of these phone look ridiculous on your hip and are a nightmare in your pocket.

C'mon guys, be reasonable these are still phones. Not tablets, mini tablets etc. You guys are starting to sound like women in the bedroom asking for more inches. Remember, you will eventually have to put this phone up to your head. How would a 5" phone look then?

----------

Took the words out of my mouth

You're right it's just like the guys with the big trucks, when people see them everyone thinks the owner must be short or lacking in another department.

I agree the people should have choice, but Apple only makes one phone. As long as that is a fact Apple will make average size phones.

Samsung Note? Are you kidding me? The Note is a novelty phone. Samsung does not take the Note seriously. Samsung's target is to only sell 10 million, iPhone more than doubles that number in a bad sells quarter.

I have tried the Note, and it's silly. Almost as silly as holding my iPad to my head.

Someone else who is logical.

No. No. No. Read Here

I don't want ... I want .... That is why I have ... I also have ... for when I want .... ... Not something I want ... Not something I want ...

Ok, I checked that funny little blogpost and when I checked my thumb against my 4S I could easily and comfortably reach all four corners of the device (not only the screen). So either my Hands are really big or his and yours are rather small.

What I'm trying to say is that the current size may be fine for those with small hands and a bigger screen may be an obstacle for you.

But my big hands want snoo snoo....ah oops...I mean they want bigger screen. ;-)

Maybe you are new to macrumors... This forum was never like this in the early days... Its only recently after the Android fans feel its compulsory that every second thread has to be an iPhone vs Android bashfest that the Apple fans have been forced into defending the same way... And are badly losing ... Because arguing with idiots is always a problem... They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience... Ofcourse there are a few true tech fans and are always a pleasure to debate with... But 99% of the Fandroids are here just to troll... And this forum have since become a bashfest...

You like Android... Good for you.. Please head over to the XDA forums... Why irritate us over here... When I used the HTC desire for a year I hardly entered this forum... Unless I saw a very interesting piece of news... just that most Android fans are little kids with lots of spare time on their hands...

[/end rant]

Why are you making a snap judgment against me that I use an Android device and must go away? You are an example of what I was talking about in the post you quoted. If I happen to have a non-apple device, I must leave.

You got lucky that your assumption was right that I do have an android device...and iphone, macbook pro, and ipad, but enough with the cliche ad hominem attacks about calling me an idiot. Why can't I just be objective about TECHNOLOGY. I love TECHNOLOGY, as do many other people, I'm not in love with APPLE, MICROSOFT, etc. Fandroid, really?

Did you even read my original post? All I said was there is going to be a TON of backtracking on a larger screen phone if the new iphone does end up being bigger than 3.5". If you peruse these forums at all, you'll see the bashing of larger devices...remember when that article came out from that guy with small hands comparing the iphone to galaxy s2? Many people were all over that as a shining example of why the iphone is perfect. John Gruber being the forefront of it, and honestly, anyone who reads his stuff or even quotes it...gotta admit to being somewhat of a fanboy, no?

This is of course all ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE that I put forth after this sentence, but when I first started getting interested in technology, the people at the forefront of being annoying cultist/fanboys, were apple users, in my OPINION. My close friends and I have all agreed (even though we ALL OWN and USE apple products in varying degrees), apple users are the most fanatical, elitist, and annoying. After finding out about macrumors about two years ago, it solidified what I always thought of apple users. I don't know who my number 2 is yet, because android users can get really annoying, but windows phone users have become very vocal as of late. Of course, I am GENERALIZING about all fanboys and not everyone is fanatical, but it's just a trend I notice, nothing scientific.

My opinion on fanboy wars...they're dumb and useless, and I don't know why people are so emotionally attached. End of conversation.

If you want to have a problem with hating people that don't like apple products, rant at someone else. I am not emotionally attached to any company, and will call things as I see it.

well depending on how well I can get this phone

I plan to sign for three years

My telus agent said that the 32gb should be about 350$ with 3 year term, so yeah thats cool

but I have to wait another few mounths because I need to make a 200$ spending limit payment

Ok I have no time to read your post... I read the first para... And try to "understand" what my post is...

I never said if you have a non apple device you must leave... You are most welcomed here... I even appreciate debates and an occasional comparison... But every second thread being "oh how superior samsung is and how **** apple is" is not needed here... We, who have purchased apple products, aren't retards... We obviously do a research before spending our hard earned money and buying the most expensive phone in the market (before you start screaming that they are the same under contract, here in India the iPhone is Rs. 50.000 and the SIII is 35,000/-, all unlocked)... We know the limitations and the advantages of the phone... But retard kids keep on harping about how good Samsung is... Ok maybe it is the best according to you.. Not for us... I can still understand and ignore a thread a month on how Samsung is "oh so superior" But not once a day... Someday I am gonna be in a bad mood and start my own version of trolling...

Also I am not putting you in the general field mind you... I am not judging... I don't know you enough to do that...

edit:
Also about the larger screen... It's not just about a larger screen... it's about its application too... The 16:9 makes sense from a lot of angles in the product lineup -- eg. the iTV (if it ever comes) and how the apple tv is growing for apple... Also the width won't increase (if these leaks are true) that means I can reach the other side with one hand easily... And there is enough of my thumb left to go a bit higher...

But again... "YOU" don't have to agree... And "YOU" don't HAVE to CONVINCE me other wise either... Like you see I just stated on what I think... I am not gonna write another 10,000 words on why YOU should agree too...

One, you were judging me; you told me that I should get off this forum because I have an android phone. Also, you just claimed all android users are "retarded" because they didn't buy an iphone.

You do know that you just sound like an aggravated biased apple fan right? Especially with your insulting remarks and use of the word "retard". Not the unbiased individual you claim to be, not the debating type, if you can't even read another person's rebuttal. Sad.

Do you honestly believe that the most mainstream phone, the iphone, generates much research and thought for the MAJORITY of apple users? Maybe for you and I, but the average consumer that just wants an iphone will buy it, maybe because that's all he knows. Many apple fans don't even look at other choices, only the iphone, that's not research...

Also, one example in one country, cannot be used to talk about general pricing worldwide, aside from the fact I believe you made up those numbers based on some quick googling (or at least exaggerated). It doesn't matter which is more expensive if another company wants to price competitively.

Sigh... You seriously need english and comprehension lessons... I will try to make it simpler...

1. Nowhere did I mention that people are retards because they buy Androids... I said "we who buy iPhones are not retards". Seriously is English comprehension so difficult...?

2. I know I am biased but I am always open to fair debate... The same debate every second thread is brainwash and it is annoying...

3. I told you that since you don't use an iPhone it doesn't justify you spamming these forums saying how great Android is... Many on this forum have been exposed to Android and "CHOOSE" to stick with iOS... That doesn't mean we haven't seen the world...

4. You think I sound like an "aggravated biased Fanboi and not the unbiased debating type"...? Well it really doesn't bother me what "YOU" think about me...
And I didn't bother reading your complete "rebuttal" because your first para was enough for me to realize you didn't understand a word of my context... And later when I did read, I was right... In-fact you still haven't understood...

5. The exaggeration that "most main stream buyers never bother seeing whats in the market" is totally nonsense... yes there are people like that... But a few handful... Wake up dude... Nobody has free money to throw it for brand loyalty just like that... And even if they do... Its their money... Why are android fans so bothered...?

Or maybe, just maybe, their experience with Apple has been so satisfying that they don't bother searching elsewhere... Or maybe they are heavily invested in the eco-system...

Anyways... That's my last response to you... If you understand what I am trying to convey then good... Else whatever... I am now tired of tutoring you.. Good night... And if it is still day at where you are then have a nice day... :)

Bawbac's post says it all, you didn't even pay attention to what you wrote. Hypocrite

My hands are by no means small. I have large hands, much bigger than average, as do you I would assume. 4 inches I think would be perfect but Apple doesn't have to go beat androids in screen size, thats all I am saying.

In the U.S, Fall doesn't start until September 22nd. Am I missing something? I'm really looking forward to upgrading my iPhone 4, though! C'mon Apple, don't disappoint us!

"All but Confirmed" is meaningless

It is confirmed or it's not. Anything else is heresay at best.

I believe all anyone is saying is that the current screen is smaller than desirable given the current state of smartphone screens that are available.

Cheers

Well, we may not be on the exact same page, but at least we are reading the same book ;)

I agree with you that there is a "natural" limit for a useful display size and bigger is not always better. But I would not dare to make the final call what display size is perfect...

Hm...I sense a career opportunity...statistical analysis of thumb range within predicted consumer groups for specific touchscreen gadgets :D
