Yea, I had AT&T with the 3GS and then when I read about them throttling I jumped to Verizon with the unlimited LTE and a Droid Charge for $30 (so I could get the unlimited data whenever the iPhone had LTE). The one nice thing about Verizon is no matter where I go, I always have a signal, I never have to wonder, even when I travel to West Virginia, although it's pretty dam slow there. ;)

I've never had a problem with not having signal. Even a small town in Michigan I go to in the summer has 3G.

This was a few years go when I had them, and this part of NOVA is fairly rural, when I first got the 3GS, there wasn't even 3G here, just Edge. A lot of the time, the Verizon LTE is even faster and better latency then our Comcrap (with the SS's to prove it, haha).

That quote from Tim Cook came to mind when I read this story, too. I'm 99% convinced that the leaked parts represent the upcoming iPhone, but have a sliver of doubt since I'm unable to gauge Tim Cook's poker face.

Although you can pretty much tell when Walt was talking about the new 'Apple TV...' the 'full sized TV,' Tim Cook was pretty uncomfortable to the point where he was swinging his chair around pretty obviously.

That pretty much gives the impression that...'there's definitely something I'm not telling you, but I'm going to channel that energy to swinging this chair around so it doesn't come out of my mouth.'

Not meaning to be snarky, but why on Earth would Jony Ive want to be CEO and worry about nuanced business junk when he has free reign in the design lab?

Amen. Jony has the best job in the world. Filthy rich, top-level control, and doing what he loves on a daily basis. What could be better?

If the new iPhone does have a bigger screen, I'm looking forward to finding out how Apple introduces it. What reasons they'll give us for increasing the screen size.

As for other features, apart from the A5X processor, 4G, and maybe a better camera, will there be more features we haven't even thought of? Looking forward to September...

It always amazes me how everyone goes nuts over the look of the iPhone and completely miss what is on the inside of it. Case in point the iPhone 4 when is was miss handled and fell into the hands of one person who shall remain unnamed. Everyone went nuts over the look. Even after it was unceremoniously taken apart, the genies who perform the dissection completely missed the new retina display, new CPU, improved antenna, etc.

I'll wait until Tim walks across the stage with a new iPhone in hand to see what it can really do.

The thing with weight of objects, from hair dryers to smartphones, is that you walk a fine line between weight and perception of quality. If a phone, for example, feels too light, people may think it is cheap (as in plastic). And there isn't the same issue with prolonged muscle fatigue holding a phone that is 6 oz heavier than another, unless the phone weighs 1 lb.

True, but the iPhone has way to much heft for a 2012 phone. I've played with the Samsung Galaxy IIIS. I didn't care for the plastic feel, but its heft is a winner AFAIC. As for the plastic feel, if I were to get one (I'm not) a case would solve that issue. The Galaxy IIIS is worth its price if you want a truly polished Android phone and that is something that should concern Apple.

Too much heft? I don't know about you, but I want my phone to be light but feel solid - Exactly like the iPhone 4/4s. The Galaxay SIII feels cheap when you hold it, IMO.

2) Apple somehow slipped us all a mickey, and the new iPhone looks NOTHING like any of these parts. They were all leaked to bust leakers, and the new thing has totally different parts?

In kinda hoping for that, as I'm not totally sold on the taller not wider design.

I will admit that when the pictures of the iPhone 4 leaked originally I didn't think it looked so great.

With that said, the leaked pictures I've seen of the new iPhone with the stretched screen is just awkward. I really feel like it's just not going to look right with the proportions all stretched.

If I like what I see, it will be a day 1 purchase.

I'm not 100% sold till I see exactly what is offered, but I am leaning more toward buying than not.

stoked for the event, just not the look of the new iPhone. hoping for something different than what i've seen on here.

If there is a redesign I'll actually consider purchasing one, but if it's a silent update, then probably not.

The chain-of-events for an introduction for Retina display was as follows:

iPhone 4
iPod Touch
the new iPad (v.3)
MacBook Pro Retina (15")
MacBook Pro Retina (13") <-- very likely in the near future.
iMac <--- sometime in the future
Cinema Display <--- sometime in the future

Due to demand and the possibility of production and QC along with screen size, you can see that there is no chance that a iMac Retina will be released. Plus hardware limitation being pushed with the MBPr 15" as it is.

This is just the way technology works, small to big as it is cheaper to produce something smaller and work out the bugs when it gets larger as that poses additional issues on it own.

If I was a betting man, I would bet on the 13" MBPr, more likely to happen than an iMac Retina. :)

agree with it all ... there wont be an iMac retina for a year or two longer at the earliest.

13" MBPr is coming ... along with the revision to iPad.
