A small minority of people have really large media libraries that they would like to carry with them at all times.

I say small because Apple has repeatedly ignored the availability of larger capacity drives for the iPod classic. They could introduce new hardware at any time. The fact of the matter is that people like Razeus aren't Apple's target customers. There are always a few people with unusual demands, but if they don't make up a large part of the target audience, they quickly become fringe. The best guess is that iPod classic customers are just a handful now.

That said, I still have my 80GB iPod classic. It rarely goes anywhere. The UI is nowhere as nice as my iPod touch.

If Apple updates the iPod classic, they will do it silently, without mentioning it at next week's event. However, since they have repeated ignored the availability of larger drives, I think this product is has one foot in a coffin.

As an AAPL shareholder, I have no interest in seeing Apple squander valuable engineering resources on maintaining this dinosaur.

My predictions:

iPod nano:

Touch screen version will have new name

so your thinking of a smaller ipod touch then? It wont be a nano if it gets another name.

yay for the new stuff!

but since the back to school promo ends later...why are they launching new ipods on 1st?
maybe they'll just announce them now and ship after the promo ends

The new ipods will not be included in the promotion.

Is it really that hard to understand?
really? you would have a use for that?

Lot of people. Lot of people want their entire library with them. Playlist dont cut it with many.

If Apple didnt have those type of people, they would have discontuned the classic already.

No Camera

Guys don't be surprised if there isn't a camera on the iPod Touch just like last year. Sure all the rumors are showing the hole in the case, but didn't they have rumors showing the hold last year?

I'm just saying don't get your hopes up like last year. :/

But then why would Steve say "We will be selling tens of millions of facetime devices this year"

note. DEVICES meaning more then just the iphone.

Last year the rumors were a camera on the back. But remember, Steve Jobs was sick last year. I have a felling he personally wanted to work on this new touch so gave the go ahead to just use the 2008 second generation design with a faster specs.

Now thats hes back he had plenty of time to help work on it. Plus perhaps he wanted to work on the ipad more then the 3rd gen touch with a camera. These products are always in the works months, if not years in advance so they camera might have been put off till this year since Jobs knew the iPhone 4 would have video chat.

They probably moved the date so Apple's news rides over the weekend, to block some of the Samsung Galaxy Tab (Android Tablet) news coming on the 3rd.

Mass media is a large free marketplace for super companies, and Apple knows how to use it to their advantage.

Won't the only reason Apple would want to rain on Samsung's parade is if it had it's own 7 inch tablet to show off?

My 3 main predictions:

Disappointment
MacRumors Ranting
MacRumors Complaining

enjoy...

I totally agree. I wrote a few posts back that people have so much **** listed that they expect to hear at the IPOD event. It's unbelievable what these people expect.

I expect to come on Macrumors Wednesday and laugh so hard at those pissed at everything.

It's a ****ing IPOD EVENT! NEWS FLASH!

I'm just tring to get over the fact people dont get that if the new ipods come out before the 7th, then the new ipods will not be included in the back to school promo. but they all think "oh it doesnt make sense" "FAKE! BTS ends on the 7th!" yada yada yada.

I swear....

That too. But there's a reason why Apple makes a 'terms and conditions' on the back to school program. Business law, law, advertising, etc....

I've been banking on a really good iPod touch for awhile now. I've been waiting to upgrade my white 80GB iPod from 2007 so that's all I'm looking forward to at this event. It'd be really nice to have 128GB but that probably won't happen.

I hope for:

A camera that can take decent pictures (preferably on the back). If it happens to only be on the front like what's been revealed for FT, that'll have to do.

A retina display

A4 Processor

Gyroscope

The iPhone 4 design/anything other than the chrome backing.

If it has all or most of those things I'll gladly pick it up.

I agree with most of the rumors, except for the Apple TV ones. Can anyone explain how the Apple TV would be sold for $99? A decent media center would need at least 16GB of storage, right? Though, I would guess a 160GB-250GB HD as an alternative to an SSD.

If you look at the manufacturing cost break down of the iPad, you will see that 16GB NAND flash, an Apple A4 chip, and RAM BY ITSELF costs $58. For an Apple TV, you would also have to add the rest of the motherboard, casing, cables, box, etc. That would easily add to $100 just to manufacture, amiright?

$199 sounds like a reasonable price point.

It has also been brought up that iOS would run on the Apple TV. Think about what Steve Jobs would say about that. That is just like someone saying that Mac OS X is going to run on a tablet. They just aren't made for each other. The current operating system that Apple TV runs simply makes sense for a TV box. It is designed for a IR-based remote with limited buttons. A redesign with a Wii-like (black) home screen, icon organization, and an App Store would make sense, but NOT an modified iOS.

Also can't see any reason to change the name to iTV. iPhone OS was changed to iOS for a reason, but the Apple TV doesn't really have a need to be changed.

Already known that 1080p is not gonna happen.

Who says so?

And are we talking/guessing because of iTunes content not being 1080p, or that the hardware itself will not be 1080p? Personally, I could pretty much care less if we get iTunes store content at 1080p, but I would really like to see the iTV have 1080p hardware, not be another HD-limited version of what was launched to the world by Apple 4 years ago. Besides, the hardware pretty much must come before the software. No Studio can gauge profitability of a 1080p show or movie if there is not iTV hardware in place to buy or rent it. And no studio is even tempted to do so until there are lots of 1080p-capable little boxes in place, so that lots of money can be made.

Apple only has control over what they themselves can do: they do not control the pace of widening broadband pipes nor when the studios would be willing to put 1080i/p content in the iTunes store. But Apple does have 100% control over what they put into their hardware. Why not lead with 1080p hardware (appealing to camps that argue "720p is good enough" AND "I'm not buying unless it's 1080p"), so that they can sell as many units as possible? Every additional unit sale becomes one more enticement for some studio to test 1080p content. Eventually, they- as a group- can't say no.

my guitar is better. :D
took this pic a while ago.
