Apple's rumored external monitor with a 27-inch mini-LED display will feature ProMotion technology, but may not launch until early 2023, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young.

During the latest episode of The MacRumors Show, Young said that after missing an initial release date scheduled for June this year, Apple has again been unable to meet its rescheduled October timeframe for launching an external monitor with a mini-LED display, with early 2023 now looking like a more realistic estimate.

Young said that like the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, the new display will feature ProMotion technology for refresh rates up to 120Hz in addition to a mini-LED panel. He also speculated that the device is unlikely to be an overt replacement for the Pro Display XDR, which offers a considerably larger, 6K display at a $4,999 price point. The new display is likely to be more akin to the $1,599 Apple Studio Display, which also features a 27-inch display. Nevertheless, the addition of mini-LED and ProMotion technology is likely to result in a higher price tag.

With similar reference to Apple product releases that are seemingly scheduled for next year, Young added that the rumored 15.2-inch MacBook Air is now timetabled to launch in early 2023.

The studio display is already expensive so not sure how much more they will make this to make people justify it. Why not make it 30"?
Why would they offer 32" and 30" at the same time? The difference in sizes is minimal.

No chance. Why would Apple release an additional 27" display when they just released one a few of months ago? All they are going to do is anger those customers.

And the webcam is not something they should be advertising because it is honestly embarrassing that they put a webcam like that in the studio display. My iMac Pro webcam is 10 times better than the Studio Displays.

I ordered the Studio Display in late May, through a corporate reseller. I am still waiting, which now has estimated ship date of August. I hope Apple will fix the supply chain issue before introducing another monitor.

I'm considering getting the new Sony InZone M9 Montior for my 2021 MacBook Pro external display for photo and video editing and I do have a PS5.

Wondering how much better this rumored display would be and at what cost difference as the M9 is around $899

Delayed? I think it’s a good thing, because I won’t have enough money for it since I will have bought a new iPad Pro by then. That gives me more time to save up. I do plan on getting a decent monitor for my next iPad though

And since both are said to have A-Series SoCs, pretty sure they will both have the ultra-wide webcam and Center Stage functionality, @JPack.

Maybe Apple will put in a more appropriate lens, like the front AF lens from the iPhone 14.

So if this is accurate (have a grain of salt), the Studio Display would be Apple's low cost external monitor.

As usual, we'll have to see what's actually released. And whether this would be a standalone display, part of a yet-to-be-announced 27" iMac, both, or something else.

In other words, because you can't get it now, you'd prefer that no one gets it now.

Think iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro. There are plenty of improvements like 1,000 nit and 120Hz support. And obviously a better camera.

They can get around that by marketing it as a smaller Pro Display XDR model and highlight the MiniLED backlight, Pro Motion display and whatever other features they add.

I could see such a display having a $2999 price (no stand) and if you want the XDR stand, that will be another $1000. So you're looking at double the price of the Apple Studio Display with the Tilt-and-height-adjustable stand which would clearly put it out of the significant majority of the market who bought the ASD.

There are already FALD 4k high refresh rate monitors coming at lower price points than $1599. A 5k miniLED high refresh rate monitor would be great and I hope Apple does it, but its going to be way out of my price range.

No, by that, I mean, I’m glad it’s delayed because if it came out and I couldn’t afford it, it would be delayed anyway and it could slip several months and there would be nothing I could do about it, especially in light of the chip shortage

All I want is a removable power cable, because I annoyingly need to reboot my studio display quite often (USB ports die, or the webcam dies - around once a week, but that is one time too many for a $2000 monitor.) I ordered a smart power adapter just to plug the thing in so I don't have to mess with my cable routing to reboot it.
